“Fantastic night away for our group!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2011

If you are expecting a five star hotel than you need to pay for it. The location is perfect, two minutes stroll into town, galleries, cafe's, ten minutes stroll from the three sisters, lookouts etc. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The Clarendon is Cosy and comfortable.
Our group decided to try The Clarendon for our Yulefest getaway this year, and we had a lovely stay. The downstairs lounge and bar area can be noisy and busy, but on saying that we went there to enjoy a concert , dinner and accommodation package, so we wanted to let our hair down a little . Dinner and breakfast were delicious

A great place to stay if you want convenience to all attractions. To all those people complaining about the music......It is first and foremost a music venue with some wonderful local and international artists appearing there. The rooms are dated but are very clean and have all the comforts needed for a good night's sleep. We would definitely stay there again as we thoroughly enjoyed our night with dinner, show and a sit at the bar afterwards.

This was a last minute booking that we did from our hotel in Sydney and we were dropped of at the entrance, which is bang on the road!! by our tour bus on a wet Saturday evening. The highlight of the place is a Supper Theatre which hosts some pretty good Artistes.
The Service is Casual Australian, which is not bad. There is a nice sitting room with a sprinkling of comfortable sofas, a warm fire, cozy to curl up with a book or a kindle! and a glass of wine!. There is a bar area across the hall where you can pick up your drink and the theatre/dining room at the end of the hall. A narrow flight of stairs lead up up to the guest rooms...

Now these could do with some up keep, considering they charge $180 a night. The carpets in the hall and the room were old, the one large sofa in the room needed to be re-sprung, the bed was comfortable and the electric blanket was welcome in the blue mountains in an unseasonably cold first week of October. large, cold bathroom with trickling hot water was disappointing.

Good Breakfast though, freshly made eggs and delish bacon.

I am sure there a better places in the area....though this being in town it was just a ten minute walk to the street which had some great restaurants and bars....we settled for dinner in a nice Italian restaurant about a 12 minutes away. Good food, unfortunately forget the name!

We stayed at the guesthouse and I agree with the majority of the raters - the building needs a lot of updating and the rooms need new paint jobs, carpeting etc. If you are really only looking for a base at the Blue Mountains where you can shower and sleep, then this place is ideal. Close to everything, the beds are comfortable and the rooms clean. The two rooms we booked had 3 beds in each and we stayed mid-week so we didn't have problems with noise - in fact it was really quiet. It is a lot smaller than what the website makes it out to be and a lot older as well. The breakfast was nice but it's nothing you can't get at any of the cafes in Katoomba. My family was looking forward to using the pool but it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while so gave that a miss also.

The Clarendon is known as an entertainment hotel (ie, they host many live acts here) but the level of noise in the rooms both during and after the shows is unacceptable. While I could tolerate the noise coming from music from the bands, the rude and drunken behavior of patrons after the shows was even more annoying. It wasn't possible for any of us to sleep through the night here. Also the rooms were quite scungy and the tv was broken. the breakfast was the only highlight.

I kept saying to myself in the middle of the night whilst trying to sleep. 'it's a guesthouse....it's a guesthouse". I was woken up several times during the night by music from the showroom, babies crying, floors creaking from above, the people downstairs in the public lounge drinking and talking till 2am...we had it all! So for sleep quality I have to unfortunately score a 1 out of 5

I really did want to like this place. It's website looks great and the 1920's feel of the place definitely appeals. The staff were lovely but they aren't around late at night to move the loud group in the lounge to their rooms. I think of policy of closing the lounge at 12 midnight might be a good idea. We could here the whole conversation they were having from a 1st floor room

If you do book this guesthouse, a couple of things:
1. Remember it's a guesthouse!! Expect older rooms, mysterious noises etc. It's not a hotel...even though they charge like they are one
2. Check out who is playing in the showroom. Our night it was angle hart so very pleasant but if it was a loud rock band you would be in trouble

This hotel looked great on the website. Upon checking in the rooms seemed to be in need of some TLC. The carpets were dirty and the water ran brown. The sheets did seem to be clean and the shower had good pressure. As others have commented breakfast was the highlight of the stay. There were two options: eggs and bacon or pancakes. In addition to your choice there was also cereal, fruit, yogurt, and breads. The other good things about the hotel were the location and the bar staff.
