“Disappointing experience, staff appear disinterested bordering on rude.”

In my opinion this hotel is very overpriced for what you get. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a friendly girl in a quirky 1920s hat. The lounge room and downstairs area is nice and relaxing but the positive experience ended there.
The hotel room is quite 'run down' looking and basic. On renting a baby cot we were charged 15 dollars a night (usually 5 dollars in other places we stayed).
The spa with pool and jacuzzi was too cold to use and jacuzzi did not turn on though we tried lots (we informed staff an hour before we would use facilities, they said give it half an hour to heat up, it didn't).
In the evening I asked receptionist could I use spa, she abruptly told me "no you can't they put acid in it today, don't use it unless you want to get burned by acid" at then she walked away from desk. I was just left standing there shocked at how abrupt she was. Overall not an experience we would like to repeat.

We booked into the Blue Hotel for a (over 40's) boys weekend where we went Abseiling and canyoning for a day trip.

We were greeted and given a tour of the hotel in a warm friendly manner. The room was clean and the water was hot. This is an old hotel and it is dated yet very clean and totally charming and roomy in it's common areas.

The breakfast is large and the food was fantastic. Large breakfast with eggs, bacon and the works was delicious! The coffee was very good and the staff can't do enough for you.

The main room has an open fire, bar and a pool table with a library surrounding it. We spent most of our time there and we had a great time.

Once we had finished our day trip we called ahead after some cold canyoning and the Hotel Manager Ashley warmed up the spa so it was ready when we got back from our day trip.

The room we were in was small but we didn't need anything more. Did I mention "Great water pressure in the shower" and the bedding was clean and warm. The mattress was very good too.

The RSL is across the road but the food is better at the hotel and the drinks are cheaper. It's a very cosy hotel and we wont hesitate to go back there as our base camp for our next adventure.

It was so enjoyable I feel compelled to recommend this to others. It's 3 star due to the age of the building but everything else is 5 star.

Room Tip: Ask for upstairs

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights - from the outside it didn't look really appealing. Once we went inside, it was a pretty beautiful hotel, you definitely feel the 1920s vibe - the furniture, the atmosphere, the music, the wallpaper, everything! The staff were absolutely lovely. We were given a short tour of the hotel - the communal lounge (included fireplace, pool table, lots of lounges, books & chess boards), the bar, indoor pool + spa, dining hall (free continental brekky included), and the cafe downstairs. So far it looked pretty good - until we entered our room, what a disappointment! The room was tiny and much worse no aircon, not even a fan! It was so stuffy in the room, we left the window open but it was still a little uncomfortable to sleep. And the TV - whilst it did have a cable, it was seriously smaller then the ones you would find in a hospital and it wasn't digital so the picture quality was pretty horrid. The walls are pretty thin so you can hear everything. You could hear the floor boards while people were walking.

The location was pretty good - we were about a 15min walk (3min drive) to Echo Point to see the Three Sisters and it was about a 10min drive to Wentworth Falls. We were also close to all the restaurants. We didn't try the cafe downstairs but would totally recommend the Hatters Cafe or Rene's Pizza & Pasta (be sure to taste their gelato!)

Overall it was a relaxing weekend - there isn't much to do at Katoomba and its fairly slow paced. Lucky for us it wasn't too hot and on the second day it got quite cold. We definitely would not recommend staying at this hotel in summer - in winter it would be pretty good (there's a heater in the room and several fire places).

Room Tip: If you do decide to stay in this hotel request a room at the very end as the floorboards creek so yo...

The hotel staff and management help make this quaint and wonderfully historic hotel unique. Yes, room was small but had everything you need and that is expected of a hotel that is 93 years old. Dinner in the cafe was fabulous. Rita (?) the chef's Pot Pie was to die for. Drink prices in the bar, cafe and restaurant were very reasonable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in a quieter section if you don't want to hear people outside your room, but not...

Downstairs is lovely, although some pieces of furniture are too modern & out of place. There are some beautiful antiques & it's simply beautiful & definitely like stepping back into time. However, upstairs the floors squeak considerably & it appears as though it requires some TLC. We stayed in an adjoining room. Both rooms were very small. Just enough room for our bed & side tables. There is a little sitting area but not at all pleasant to sit in. It's right by the toilet, which is very 1970's. Although a lot of the decor is 1970's, the hotel manages to get away with it without being tacky. There was no air conditioning & it was so hot we could hardly breath, or sleep for that matter. We did open the one window we had above the bed but then the traffic drove us nuts & the light streamed in. The room was clean & presented pleasantly enough. It was just the lack of space so we chose to stay downstairs & play pool. The swimming pool was too cold to swim in. The breakfast was lovely. The owner was good to talk to & all staff pleasant. He did say that they are renovating & that there were some larger rooms. I would stay there again but only if there was a bigger room. Ours was like match box & I couldn't have slept in it again. One night was more than enough. The t.v was old & tiny but they are getting replaced too apparently. The building is very charming & has huge potential. I wish it were mine because it would be amazing!!

Stayed three nights (which was three too many) and although the initial welcome was friendly it was down hill from there. A $100 security deposit was a bit random to start.

The hotel isn't really 1920's more dated and unloved. The rooms are small, oddly decorated with ancient tvs. Considering we were there three nights, the room wasn't cleaned once... No new sheets or towels, the bathroom wasn't cleaned but they did replenish the tea and coffee!

Breakfast appeared to be cooked the night before and then left in the heating trays. It left us both feeling sick so we went and bought breakkie the next two days.

The pool table was nice and the bar fairly cheap which is handy when you're avoiding your room.

Only perk is good location and car park. Although the stench of sewage as you walk to it isn't great!

We booked a couple of nights just before Christmas. We were given a guided tour of the hotel and all the facilities and then shown to our room by the manager. The room (No 21) was at the end of the corridor and very quiet as no one walked past our door at night. Our room was spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom, and comfortable though the carpets looked a little old though not worn. The place is lovely with a pool, spa, a lovely pool table and games room as well as a bar room and a large fire place that is lit when the nights are cold. As well as all of this they provide a really top notch breakfast in their dining room every morning, and are very accommodating to all their guests food needs in the morning. There is generally plenty of parking in their carpark, although there is also a lot of street parking available next to the hotel. You can see the management keep the whole place very clean and there is lots of lovely warm nooks to sit in and read. Thoroughly recommended, and I'd definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of the corridoor as the building is old world and the floors squeak so if...
