“VERY OLD IN NEED OF MAINTENANCE AND RENOVATION.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2013

PHOTOS ARE DECEIVING
Dissapointing, rooms are in need of a good clean, dirty and dusty, bathroom very dated and not very clean.Lots of double adapters and extension cords in rooms, not really safe. Very dusty, musty smell on entering the building. Restaurant was not open as advertised, spa closed for maintenance ( thought this would be done earlier in the week not close to the weekend). Staff did not like complaints being made and were very rude. No guest directory in rooms and staff were not very helpful in assisting or did not know the answer, however were very informative on the history of the building.
We did like the lounge area with wood heating
My husband kept checking to see if Basil Faulty was coming up the hall.
We have stayed at alot of differant accomodation over the years but this takes the cake for the worst.
Not worth the money paid.

We stayed here late last year and loved it! Funny little place! our room while was a good size had 3 beds! little dated but not in a bad way! Staff did all they could to be helpful and had some really good suggestion for the area! Hotel had a huge pool and spa! Breakfast was ok but provide Great vale for money! Would stay here again!

Room Tip: Don't have a room on the ground floor!

We stayed two nights and I found this hotel to be good value for the price. It has everything you'd expect from a 3.5 star hotel, with perhaps a touch bit more wear and tear on closer inspection. Some areas could do with a reno, but the lounge area with the comfy armchairs deserves top marks. Couldn't fault the breakfast either and we found the staff albeit busy, very approachable.

In my opinion this hotel is very overpriced for what you get. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a friendly girl in a quirky 1920s hat. The lounge room and downstairs area is nice and relaxing but the positive experience ended there.
The hotel room is quite 'run down' looking and basic. On renting a baby cot we were charged 15 dollars a night (usually 5 dollars in other places we stayed).
The spa with pool and jacuzzi was too cold to use and jacuzzi did not turn on though we tried lots (we informed staff an hour before we would use facilities, they said give it half an hour to heat up, it didn't).
In the evening I asked receptionist could I use spa, she abruptly told me "no you can't they put acid in it today, don't use it unless you want to get burned by acid" at then she walked away from desk. I was just left standing there shocked at how abrupt she was. Overall not an experience we would like to repeat.

We booked into the Blue Hotel for a (over 40's) boys weekend where we went Abseiling and canyoning for a day trip.

We were greeted and given a tour of the hotel in a warm friendly manner. The room was clean and the water was hot. This is an old hotel and it is dated yet very clean and totally charming and roomy in it's common areas.

The breakfast is large and the food was fantastic. Large breakfast with eggs, bacon and the works was delicious! The coffee was very good and the staff can't do enough for you.

The main room has an open fire, bar and a pool table with a library surrounding it. We spent most of our time there and we had a great time.

Once we had finished our day trip we called ahead after some cold canyoning and the Hotel Manager Ashley warmed up the spa so it was ready when we got back from our day trip.

The room we were in was small but we didn't need anything more. Did I mention "Great water pressure in the shower" and the bedding was clean and warm. The mattress was very good too.

The RSL is across the road but the food is better at the hotel and the drinks are cheaper. It's a very cosy hotel and we wont hesitate to go back there as our base camp for our next adventure.

It was so enjoyable I feel compelled to recommend this to others. It's 3 star due to the age of the building but everything else is 5 star.

Room Tip: Ask for upstairs

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights - from the outside it didn't look really appealing. Once we went inside, it was a pretty beautiful hotel, you definitely feel the 1920s vibe - the furniture, the atmosphere, the music, the wallpaper, everything! The staff were absolutely lovely. We were given a short tour of the hotel - the communal lounge (included fireplace, pool table, lots of lounges, books & chess boards), the bar, indoor pool + spa, dining hall (free continental brekky included), and the cafe downstairs. So far it looked pretty good - until we entered our room, what a disappointment! The room was tiny and much worse no aircon, not even a fan! It was so stuffy in the room, we left the window open but it was still a little uncomfortable to sleep. And the TV - whilst it did have a cable, it was seriously smaller then the ones you would find in a hospital and it wasn't digital so the picture quality was pretty horrid. The walls are pretty thin so you can hear everything. You could hear the floor boards while people were walking.

The location was pretty good - we were about a 15min walk (3min drive) to Echo Point to see the Three Sisters and it was about a 10min drive to Wentworth Falls. We were also close to all the restaurants. We didn't try the cafe downstairs but would totally recommend the Hatters Cafe or Rene's Pizza & Pasta (be sure to taste their gelato!)

Overall it was a relaxing weekend - there isn't much to do at Katoomba and its fairly slow paced. Lucky for us it wasn't too hot and on the second day it got quite cold. We definitely would not recommend staying at this hotel in summer - in winter it would be pretty good (there's a heater in the room and several fire places).

Room Tip: If you do decide to stay in this hotel request a room at the very end as the floorboards creek so yo...
