“Not good!”
Reviewed 29 July 2012

We travelled up from Sydney for a nice couple of days exploring the Blue Mountains. We didn't bother booking any accommodation as we figured it was July and demand wouldn't be too great - first mistake! After a lovely day doing the touristy things around Katoomba, we decided to look for accommodation as darkness fell. Much to our concern, 'No Vacancy' signs greeted us wherever we went - the annual Yuletide Festival was on and everything was full! In desperation, we drove back out onto the highway, past a couple more 'No Vacancy' signs before stumbling upon the G'day Motel - second mistake. Deciding that beggars can't be choosy, we toddled in to the reception to enquire about a room for the night. Interrupting the old guy's game of Solitaire on his computer, we were given the keys to a room and hit for $110. I would have to say this was the second worst room I have ever stayed in - second only to a Formula1 motel I was forced to stay in when trapped in Melbourne by the volcanic ash cloud last year! And to make matters worse, when I hopped onto Wotif later that night, the going rate for the rooms were $65 - aaaargggghhhh! All I can say positive about the poor old G'day Motel is that they have beds. We were gone by 8am the following morning!

We only stayed here as we had nothing booked for 1 night on the long weekend and these guys had a cancellation.

- Average looking motel, very dated rooms.
- Hard to access when coming from Katoomba, need to drive toward sydney to turn around.
- Noise from hwy at front and from train tracks behind could only be drowned out by the ridiculously loud old style reverse cycle air-con (which was only just cutting it warmth wise).
- Tiles missing from bathroom, nothing seemed particularly clean either - guess it must've been a bit busy over the l/weekend.
- White stains from I don't want to know what on the bedspread cover, small blood stain underneath.
- When we did try turning off the noisy air-con you could hear other people snoring in an adjoining room, so not very sound proof.
- Had issues keeping shower at a constant temp.
- Bed not very comfy, may be ok with 1 person, 2 people and you roll into the middle.
- Wasn't even super cheap to make up for it.

Room Tip: Go and stay in Katoomba or Lurline St.

Previous comments about road and rail noise are true (but we didn't hear anything from other residents), so if you're a light sleeper take some ear plugs. Otherwise though, our experience was actually very reasonable - everything was clean, the bed was comfortable and we felt the price was about right. We have a six month old child and were provided with a clean and very comfortable cot for the duration of our stay (the noise did not seem to bother her). Whilst the immediate location between train and road routes is not so great from a noise perspective, the Blue Mountains is a wonderful area to explore - and the motel serves as a good base from which to do so.

I don't agree with the previous reviews. My experience was not that bad. The rooms where really clean, the bed was comfortable and everything in the room (including carpet and paint) looked fresh - perhaps they did renovations recently?

The rooms are very basic but it had everything you need. I would recommend bringing along ear plugs as there is a busy road in front of it and you can hear the cars all night (if it wasn’t for my ear plugs I wouldn’t have slept).

All this place needs is double glazed windows for noise, other than that it’s a good place to stay for the budget traveller. Staff where really good.

Booked this motel online and it was pretty much the only place in the area available on short notice – Looking back that should have told us something.

The room was small and dated to say the least and the beds were lumpy – lumpy like a wet pillow that had been stomped on by a football team wearing cleats.

Location wise the G’day is squeezed between the rail line and a major road.

I agree with everything said on the previous two reviews.

When we got to our room, I noticed ants crawling around near the door and in the bathroom. Being a holiday weekend, everything in town was booked. I went to the desk and told the "desk guy" about the ants. He laughed a bit and looked around for some spray. I pushed a little more and he offered a different room on the second level.

In the morning we noticed that someone else had stayed in the ant room. Makes me itch thinking about it.

We booked this motel on wotif. The description and photos of the motel gave us the impression that it seemed like it would be a reasonable place to stay for the 3 days we were spending in Katoomba.
I had booked a 'family room' for 3 adults. How disappointing!
We could hardly move in the room without bumping into each other, it was ridiculously small. We didnt even have enough room to put our 2 suitcases. The bathroom door constantly jammed, so at times we couldnt shut it. The room was dirty and smelt musty. It looked as if it hadnt been cleaned for a long time. We were in Katoomba for a wedding so wanted to hang our clothes staight away, NO cupboard, only 2 small hooks behind the front door, which wasn't appropriate for our needs.
The price we paid for the accommodation was reasonable and basically all we wanted was a place to sleep and leave our bags while we were there, so we werent expecting it to be 5 star. But I did expect it to be clean. The fact that I also booked what I thought to be a family room, was also a huge disappointment. I would not recommend this motel if you were planning on an extended stay in the Blue Mountains.
