“A cosy touch of old world England in the Blue Mountains”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

We took up our Luxuryescapes.com voucher we had purchased earlier in the year to have a stopover in the Blue Mountains on the way to Port Macquarie. What a pleasurable experience we had. The room was very spacious with a king sized bed and a large bathroom complete with spa bath. It was clean and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed so many aspects of our stay - the generous breakfasts with so much variety (those yummy pastries and croissants, the Bircher muesli), the Devonshire tea, the cosy library and various lounges for relaxing or reading. The staff in the cocktail lounge and the restaurant were friendly, efficient and helpful. There were only a couple of things that stopped me giving this a five - lack of a shelf near the bathroom sink for toiletries and very poor lighting in the bathroom (difficult for shaving and putting on makeup). The lift is quite challenging until one gets the hang of it. We were surprised also that there is no one to help take up bags to a room if it is needed for elderly or disabled customers. Overall though, it is a wonderful spot to spend a winter break. The decor and the setting made us feel we were part of an Agatha Christie mystery.

Room Tip: Choose one that has the view towards Echo point. It was quite magical seeing the setting sun from ou...

We stayed here last minute and had a lovely stay. Room was basic but clean. Very warm and cosy and we had access to the front balcony which was nice for the sunrise! The Lounge is nice for a drink by the cosy fire. Breakfast was good but would've liked hot to be included in the rate but still, it was substantial and tasty. Great location.

We were there yesterday and the day before. The first night was absolutely freezing. The air con had a heat setting but only sent out air the same temp as the room. The second night we got moved to another room that was only slightly better. The restaurant was closed so we couldn't have dinner there during our stay. Obviously we weren't told that when we booked. We were told to go to a brassiere on the street next door to the restaurant for dinner but the menu was not v exciting. We looked in on the first night but thought it was a homeless shelter. We went on to another local restaurant.instead which wasn't bad. The second night we were in the lounge of the bar and this big backpacker came in and wandered round. He hadn't bought a drink or anything so we kept an eye on him. After a while he sat down on the floor by the fire and started sobbing quite loudly and occasionally laughing to himself. We guessed he had escaped from the brassiere next door so once again we faced the freezing cold to go outside and find another eatery. For those that don't think Australia has cold days, check the weather forecast for the blue mountains around June 23, 2014. It was v windy and cold.

Room Tip: To get a good room, stay in a cheaper hotel nearby.

This historical hotel boasts a fantastic cocktail bar. We met Ian on a very cold, miserable winter's day and he was wonderfully knowledgeable and suggested specific cocktails to our individual requirements. We sipped these wonderful concoctions in an historic lounge full of leather sofas, wing back chairs and an open fireplace. We were amazed to find out that he had only been in the job for a mere 4 weeks. His passion for his craft was impressive and he continued to supply us with interesting and unusual drinks during the afternoon. We will be returning to stay at the hotel soon but in the meantime we highly recommend the bar staff as being personable and passionate about their roles in this beautifully historic hotel.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we will eventually. We did go for the ambience and a drink. There are a number of rooms and places to sit in the bar and lounge area. There are open fireplaces and nice big lounges and armchairs to sit around with your friends.
The service there is with a smile and you just can't go past the history of it all. It does cast you back to the early 20th century and how the wealthy lived back then.
I'm looking forward to going back again for a drink and maybe even book in at the restaurant.

Staying in Carrington Hotel in Katoomba was very good experience. I stayed in a colonial room - it was clean, neat and nice and it gives that feeling of old times.
Bathroom was new, not great but not bad either. The only complaint about it is that it was a bit cold.
Breakfast was included in the room price but choice was limited. However, there is an option of ordering a-la carte breakfast.
Location is very good, parking facility provided.
My overall experience is very good - can recommend this hotel.
Please be aware that some "old" features (bathrooms, for example) are there for a reason, otherwise this hotel couldn't be called "colonial".
