“Convenient and elegant”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

What a lovely, elegant hotel from by-gone days. The guest lounges near the lobby were comfortable and welcoming. The rooms were spacious, the bathrooms modernised, and the proximity to town was great. The stairs were good for exercise! We had no complaints, and thought the tariff, inclusive of breakfast and a welcoming bottle of bubbly was excellent. We had 3 lovely nights here, after the bushfires.

Room Tip: Room upstairs at the front had a little balcony beside.

We stayed during the terrible bush fires and did not notice much smoke. The rooms are clean, comfortable & overall nice. We only stayed 1 night. Check-in was quick and friendly. We decided to skip their brekkie and eat at a cafe. The only thing that really made this place a little inconvenient was the stairs and no lift or offer to help with your bags to your room. My husband has an injury and this proved to be a little difficult for us but would possibly be an issue for an elderly couple or a family with children & lots of bags. Overall a nice stay:-)

We stayed here when the bush fires were happening. We wanted to actually cancel our trip but they would not give us a refund and ensured us it was fine there. When we got there it was very smokey (even though i had asked if it was and the lady told me it wasnt) and all the activies you can do in the blue mountains were closed. (canyoning, rock climbing, caving etc). We also caught the lady rolling her eyes and saying how someone else had called up and asked to cancel. I think they should have offered refunds due to the circumstances as poeple do not really want to go if there are fires threatening the area.
The hotel itself is expensive for what it is. The furniture is outdated and the beds are very uncomfortable. the bath had burns or scratches or something on it which made it look dirty, although the whole room was kept fairly clean.
The location is in the main street in katoomba so in the centre of it. However if i was to go again i would stay in Leura as it is a much nicer area.

This place is alright, nothing special though. The bed was comfortable, the staff was friendly, the place was clean, however that's the standard I expect from any hotel, no matter how many stars it has. The whole place seems out of date a bit. The furniture could be updated, the TV is still analogue (5 channels) while the rest of Australia has 17 free to air digital channels. The bathroom has no fan, and because of the bushfires we couldn't really open a window or all the smoke would get in, so after a shower the whole room gets damp. This is probably the reason why the ceiling cornices are disintegrating. The room could do with a paint job in general. The house itself is old-fashioned style nice to look at, and the lounge is not bad either, but this old style charm does not translate to the rooms. There's also no lift, which I would think will make it hard for elderly or disabled people to get to upstairs rooms or the downstairs restaurant. The spa and sauna feels like it's an afterthought, somehow doesn't quite fit in. The breakfast was nothing special, simple buffet and some hot breakfast one can get in any motel. Overall the level of comfort feels like motel quality, wrapped in a stylish façade. I'm not saying we had a bad stay, but we could have gotten the same out of a good motel for much less. To me this place is overrated, and needs to upgrade a few things to get away with the price.

I did stay at Palais Royale hotel on my birth day, hotel is nice and they provide nice breakfast. I think they should improve their interior, as I saw some places paint are falling also I did late check in and could not found microwave to hit my food, receptation facaily not availabele at night so could not get help from staff's. Reception staff's are freindly, I will visit again..

Located on the road between Katoomba town and Echo Point it is conveniently situated. It is a mere 2 minute walk to the high street where lots of cafes and restaurants are available.
The room was clean and reasonably big, with a tiny table with two dining chairs for a meal or read.
In addition to the central air-conditioning the room was provided with individual temperature control, making it easy to be comfortable.
The bed was fine but we found the pillows a bit thin and hard.
Don't count on using the spa for relaxation. The jacuzzi is too small to accommodate more than a couple of persons, making it awkward to use if one arrives after it is already occupied by more than one person. The sauna is fine.
Struggling up the stairs (no lifts) with heavy luggage I wondered how elderly guests would cope.
I would suggest the management install ramps in the corridors where there are steps between levels (on the same floor) to ease the passage of guests wheeling their luggage.

Ron and his staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The ambience of the place was old world and charming. There are plenty of lounges to sit and have a chat with friends. Our rooms were clean and large. The place did need a little bit of paint here and there but I understand this is in the process of being done and did not worry us in the least. There was a spa and sauna which we were going to try but unfortunately we run out of time.. Our friends and ourselves thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay and would recommend the experience to everyone..

Room Tip: Chose a top floor room as the floor boards tend to creak a bit.
