I got a reasonable rate from their website. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the Katoomba train station (where you can catch the Explorer bus), but the pathway is not too luggage-friendly (and hilly), so if you have a lot of luggage, you'll want a taxi.

Our room (spa/fireplace) was quite large, and aside from a missing desk drawer, was fine. The bathroom has electrical outlets configured for many different plug styles. It's marked "for shavers only", so the current is probably low.

The breakfast buffet is very nice (I really liked the mushrooms). I didn't try the restaurant for dinner.

Perhaps I was just unlucky, but the nearby spa (which the hotel hypes) has terrible hours (last massage appointment was 2:00 pm?! who's going to be in the hotel at that hour?)

There were no noise issues from other rooms nearby.

At an average rate of 381 au-dollars a night our experience of the Mountain Heritage Hotel has been very disappointing indeed, and we certainly would'nt have chosen this overrated hotel with the knowledge, we've got now. It is a very sad thing to say about a important part of a expensive and long trip from Europe to Australia - not to mention the 2 hour trip from Sydney to Katoomba! The best thing about this hotel may be its homepage, so don't be allured by it! Our suite did actually have a view overlooking the distant Blue Mountains though, but only from a very small fraction of the living room-window with its perifery-view framed by the hotel wall, the protruding window of the neighbouring suite and the uncharming suburbia, that so densely and narrowly sorrounds the hotel on its relatively small parcel compactly overbuild, but though as it appears on its homepage mansionesque hotel. The view from the bedroom was on the other hand unromanticly overlookiing a narrow backyard, hotel-roofs and neighbouring houses. Our main points of critic are apart from this: the sparsity of the living rooms furniture - especially its two unreliable and very cranky chairs, that even though - or symbolic -were centrally placed by the Blue Mountains-view window; the kitchenette with no table and stools, even though there were room enough for it, and with its two cheramic-hotplates, but no pots and pans, that consequently was practically unfunctional; the kitchenette even purposely lacked a corkscrew, because guests according to the hotel-staff in the bar uses to take this (overtly expensive?) piece of domestic utensil with them upon leaving the hotel (possibly as a very small compensation for a overpriced hotel-experience); no porter or -elevator is available at the hotel, so you must carry your luggage up and down a wooden, winding and only partly blanket-cladd full flight of stairs to and from the hotels second floor; the hotel does not have electric adoptors for foreign plugs, but did rather unserviceminded for a allegedly 4 and 1/2 star hotel - and as something certainly new compared to our other four 4-5 star austalian hotel-exoeriences - simply advise us to buy it in a store; the only and small outdoor pool is closed in the low season - that is conveniently for the hotels heating-expenses for the most of the year; the so-called gymnasium is a locked small schack across the road with only four pieces of fitness-equipment; the air-condition- and bedding-facilities are very basic for this hotel-rate; the hotel-breakfast is poor with a very cheap choice of juices, only one type of coffee and is completely lacking cheese in any form and has no sliced cold meat - even ham! - or fish; the restaurants cook did on our occasion seem to have a flaw for bedding the main courses on mashed potatoes: steak on mashed potatoes - with the more obligatory french fries it can pose a conflicting, if not downwright schizoid stuation; fish of the day on mashed patatoes ... etc.

The Mountain Heritage Hotel certainly has a nostalgic charme, which is underlined by its cunning house-pianist Allan strumming old evergreens and classical tunes - especially memorable to us: Offenbachs main theme from the opera "The Tales of Hoffmann", which we breathtakenly had just recently experienced in The Sydney Opera - in the bar and restaurant in most evenings and by the alternatively tape-looping selection of old Frank Sinatra- and Dean Martin-tunes pouring from the hotel-speakers. But when this nostalgic charme is accompanied by major flaws in hotel-quality and by an imbalance in the crucial cost-benefit relationship for the guest - and not for the obviously profiting hotel propietor! - it stresses out, that nostalgia may be a profitable excuse for not updating the hotel and its services! And apart from the guests this certainly is a misuse of Sinatra, Martin and - sans comparaison - Allan!

My husband and I stayed there for our wedding anniversary. We booked a Heritage View Room through [--] and paid $280 which isn't exactly cheap. When we saw the room we were very disappointed. It didn't look anything like the rooms on their website. The decor was getting old and the room overall looked like it needed some renovating.
Staff were friendly and I can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there. We were just annoyed that we paid that much money. We really should have stayed in a bed & breakfast and paid half the price.

This is a lovely place.

Our room ("Heritage View") was small/medium sized with a large bed, sofa (but no end tables or coffee table near the sofa on which to rest books or drinks), little table, and a wall console with small fridge and the tea/coffee service. The decor was pretty, in an old-fashioned way. The bathroom was small but well-appointed. The view was nice (not spectacular)of the residential neighborhood, but with the mountains in the distance.

The public areas of the hotel are beautiful in that old turn-of-the-century way. We thoroughly enjoyed the lounge areas and the bar, as well as the terrace off the bar which was beautiful for a pre-dinner drink.

The dining room was nice, with mountain views like our room. The food was absolutely fabulous. Really, really good. Weeks later, we are still talking about it. That goes for breakfast as well as dinner. The service, even though they were understaffed that night, was very nice, polished, and (reasonably) professional. It would be a fine place for a romantic dinner, even if one wasn't staying in the hotel.

This is a great place---but probably not a great place for families. There were only adults there when we were there, some couples obviously celebrating milestones, and the quiet and old-school atmosphere doesn't lend itself to the little ones.
