“Very comfortable and good value”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

I am writing this review because there are very few recent ones and the older ones do not fairly represent the property.
It is a lovely old building with great atmosphere.
There is spacious on-site parking. The rooms were very clean and tidy.
Afternoon tea is provided in a very comfortable and attractive guest lounge.
Rooms are not huge but why should they be in this type of accommodation?
Our bed was very comfortable and had good quality linen.
There is a great selection of DVDs and TV reception was excellent.
Wi-fi reception was good in the main area of the property but hit and miss in our room. But..hey... it was included and at least it was there, unlike some places. These days I see it as an absolute essential.
The bathroom was very generously proportioned and had great hot water and pressure.
Breakfast was a real surprise. A great selection of cereals, cheeses, breads, fruits and yoghurt, along with croissants and muffins.
The employees we met were friendly and we were given a good tour of the place.
We enjoyed our brief stay here and will recommend it to our friends

Having arrived in Australia from the UK (mid February 2014) and spent our first 3 nights in Sydney it was great to journey into the stunning Blue Mountain region.
Kurrara house is set in, what we felt, was a nice quite area of Kattomba within easy walking distance of both the town and the Echo point attractions. 1st impressions can often count for a lot and we were not disappointed by this historic accommodation. We were shown around the house and then taken to our room which was clean, comfortable and all we could have asked for during our short stay

Iain was more than happy to help and give us his advice on things to do and where to go to make the most of our couple of days

Breakfast was a good mix of cerials / fruit and fresh continental breads which was more than enough to set us up for the day

When we return to Australia I intent to spend more time in the region and would definately look to come and stay again at the Kurrara

Thank you for your hospitality

Gary and Ness

Stayed 3 nights in January and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was quite a change from the large hotels we'd been in for the rest of our trip, but all the better for that. The house itself is very quaint with all the original features intact. Can't remember which room we were in but I think it was one of the larger ones, furnished and decorated in keeping with the rest of the house. The bed was almost too comfortable, we had to discard the comforters and throws, but it did look lovely. The continental style breakfast was good with plenty of choice and lovely coffee (which was available all day). Other nice touches was the cakes and biscuits left out for afternoon tea, and port available in the lounge. We took our breakfasts in the porch area overlooking the front garden. Iain and Evelyn were really welcoming and we even got yoga lessons from Evelyn to help my husband's back pain. All in all a really enjoyable stay.

We stayed at Kurrara in Feb and had a pleasant enough stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful during the stay. Our room was small and we were told was still to be fully renovated. It had a new bed, but the room needed a paint and a bathroom upgrade. We could hear voices in the next room, but we just closed the bathroom door, which fixed that. We did have a look in to the adjacent room next day, and this appeared to have been renovated and although small, did look a lot better. Breakfast is a good array of continental offerings (no hot food) with excellent breads jams and cheeses. Juices, cereals, yogurt were all laid on. They have two separate eating rooms, one overlooking the front garden.
The B and B is close to Katoomba main steet and not far from Echo Point.
I am sure when all improvements are finished, this place will be even better.

KurraraHouse, Owner at Kurrara Historic Guest House, responded to this review, 14 March 2014
Thank you for your review and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Iain and I purchased Kurrara in May 2012 and have implemented an ongoing program of refurbishment to restore this beautiful old home. Having been a guest house since 1902, Kurrara is most likely the longest running in Katoomba. We are passionate about preserving the history of Kurrara and the age of the house. The decor has been carefully chosen to reflect its age, and to offer modern day comforts, with brand new latex eco-beds, natural textiles, carpets and curtains. Room by room, we are creating a benchmark of quality and comfort. We hope you will return to stay with us in the future. If you visit our website you will find up to date information and photographs of all our rooms, and if you book direct you can choose your favourite room. We offer 3 large spa suites downstairs with 4-poster beds, some with garden rooms, and 5 upstairs rooms of varying sizes. Once again thank you for taking the time to review our property.
Best regards,
Iain & Evelyn

We attended the Blue Mountains Ukulele Festival in February 2014 and our hosts, Beverly and Iain, were very hospitable and made our stay all the more enjoyable with their attention, excellent recommendations and local knowledge. We enjoyed the ambience of a 100+ year old guest house being restored to its former glory with twenty-first century embellishments. Lovely bed, good breakfast, convenient location with the (truly) stunning Echo Point 15 minutes quiet walk away; we'd be happy to return.

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely historic house. Excellent location short walk from the town and the Three Sisters. The owners very very helpful and had breakfast ready early on our last morning when we had to hurry to get to Sydney for a show. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was good with an excellent selection of self serve items. Also appreciated the fact that we could watch the tennis semi-finals match on the big screen TV in one of the sitting rooms. The owner provided Port and glasses for our use. Parking available on the property and umbrellas available. We traveled with another couple and had selected to two least expensive rooms - would probably select one of the larger rooms on our next visit. Plenty of room for weekend travelers, but we were traveling for several weeks and had quite a bit of luggage and one of the larger rooms would have been better suited.

Room Tip: Would prefer to select one of the larger rooms.

We spent a wonderful weekend here! And we will back ! The owners have lovingly restored the place and are continuing to do so. The bed is soooo comfortable. Custom made for total comfort We spent the afternoon in the garden with our picnic delights and wine and really enjoyed the relaxing ambience. Breakfast on the veranda whilst watching the morning mist. I highly recommend this lovely place. The owners will book restaurants for you. We went to Niagara. Very good !! If you train it in they will pick you up from the station. Really enjoyed it. Thank you
