Description: Set in the historic Savoy picture theatre building, AVALON Restaurant and Cocktail Bar at Katoomba combines playful art-deco charm with hearty food, friendly service and spectacular Blue Mountains views. Located on main street Katoomba, enter the historic Savoy picture theatre foyer and make your way past the ticket booth and up the stairs. The restaurant inhabits the dress circle of the old theatre, and offers a decor of quirky retro finds and spectacular mountain views over Leura and the Jamison Valley. Meals are prepared in the old projection room, and cocktails and retro tunes are served in the former refreshment lounge, now a cosy bar complete with roaring fireplace. The art deco architecture is complemented by an eclectic collection of furnishings and artwork. The style of service is casual and friendly. Licensed and BYO wine.

My wife and I had a beautiful dinner seated next to the amazing floor to ceiling windows ( during daylight saving in summer this spot has amazing views out across Katoomba and Leura village to the cliffs beyond) amazing food good service.

“INTERESTING”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

From the street you would never know that at the top of the stairs you step back in time
in this I guess eclectic restaurant. The ambience is great and the food delicious, service
was a little slow but we didn't mind as we were enjoying the whole experience. We will go
back again.

“Twilight zone rudeness”
Reviewed 23 May 2014 via mobile

Didn't event get a seat, we were told "no seats , we are fully booked" said the lady with a fascinator as we walked in. In actual fact, I think she did us a favour. Strangest place I've ever seen. Scene out of twilight zone. The 50 year old DJ was classic

“Great”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Went with a friend and had a really enjoyable night. The food was well prepared, tasty and well presented. It is not fine dining but it is a very delighful meal. Service was particularly good. Always consistent. Good value for money.

“After ten years still a special place”
Reviewed 24 April 2014 via mobile

I only come here on special occasions but it never disappoints. , it's a great for the eyes as well as other senses. Had the grilled figs, caramelized leek tart, slow cooked lamb, veal medallions, and of course the licorice cheesecake. All divine. I think it's great value for the service, care of preparation and variety. A great night as always.
