“Fancy”
Reviewed 6 January 2013

My boyfriend and I wanted to spend our barter points in something better than a hostel. So, our boss paid for a fancy 2-nights experience in the most amazing place in Katoomba. The restaurant is "incroyable" (Thats french for AMAZING!). We had dinner both nights in there, a 3 course meal. Entrees were Escargots bournignon, Cheese soufle and Trio of Tasmanian salmon. Main courses: Steak with salad (i thought it was to little, but at the end after dessert it was a lot!), East coast cassoulet and Open range duck. For dessert we had Crepes, Creme brulee and tart tatin. I am from Concon, Chile. My town is Chile's gastronomic capital town. I know about seafood. I love food. I have to say that the cassoulet was the best! Plus, all the French meals were awesome. I fell in love with the desserts!! The waiter was very nice, helpful and polite. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it takes a little bit too much time in between courses, but after thinking about it, you need that time to make some space for the next one lol simply delightful.
The hotel was very good as well, we liked it because is just across the street from the Three Sisters trail, so you can get up and just hike. OH! and breakfast is included, although is not as good as dinner, but is a continental breaky, so still good. We took everything for the hike ;)
Theres a lot of walk, so if you go willing to do something else than walk, you need more time.

“old world French dining”
Reviewed 6 November 2012 via mobile

well I ate dinner at the Rooster last night , I think I ate at this place more than 20 years ago and was reminded why it was so enjoyable then as now. Old world menu, ambiance and service. A bit of a novelty yes but backed up with substance. The food is classic Paris bistro- duck , snails , soufflé etc etc limited choice but well executed . The totally over the top but professional service fits the concept so well , also an amazing wine list. It's one of those places you wish you had in your home town that fit like an old pair if shoes. Good value at $85 for three courses of French classics. A time warp done well.

“what a special place”
Reviewed 31 October 2012

attentive knowledgable waiters, distinctive food and a lovely choice of places to sit from the verandah with a view of the mountains, the "cosy" fireplace room or the main room with the room wide window

“After many meals at the Rooster”
Reviewed 21 October 2012

The menu has many good choices, The service is efficient and friendly- once for a table of 20!
The last time we were there the Rooster was BYO and corkage- if any- was minimal. The food was very satisfactory
