Lovely evening dinner in the Grand Dining Room, good service. Old world ambience - even live music with a piano player. Pity it is only open 3 nights a week - Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Unfortunately the "grand old lady" Carrington is surviving on a reputation from days gone by. The day was meant to be fun and a celebration for my birthday. The greeting was less than enthusiastic, for our high tea. There was no atmosphere, the quality of the crockery, cutlery and food provided for a high tea that was overpriced. We waited too long to receive our tea or coffee and not everything was served at the same time.
Been there once, but won't be back.

Where else can you go into a cocktail bar wearing hiking clothes, scarf, beanie, mittens and still get served a delicious cocktail?
Just what you need to warm you up int he Blue Mountain winter.

A place full of character. Warmth from the wood fireplace and inexpensive meal under the skylight Dome .

June long weekend trip with friends to the Blue Mountains.
High Tea booked at the Carrington Dining Room.
The high tea was overall quite a nice experience for the whole group with a nice ambiance in the old ornate dining room, high ceilings, decorative cornice, stain glass etc.
The quality of the food was quite good but nothing exceptional or standout. That being said the scones were fresh and light the blackberry jam a delight. I think everyone was happy enough with the fair.
We did have a minor glitch with the service in that the tea arrived well before the food - and i had drunk my entire 3 cups from the pot before the first of the food arrived. The teas were also delivered in spits and spats rather than all together - don't understand why this was a problem. It would have been preferable to have the food arrive before the tea - at least for myself rather than the other way.
I've been to a few high teas and last time in the mountains went to Lilianfels - which i would rate a little better. Highly recommend the high tea at the Mandarin Oriental in KL if you get the opportunity.
