After our first stay at the Fairmont was so disappointing we decided to give it another try. And just as well, because it was much better this time. Management seem to have ironed out some of the staff shortage issues and things seemed to run much more smoothly this time. Breakfast was still not great - food all semi-cold and not much service but all in all a better experience second time round.

The room was really lovely, large and beautiful big bathtub. Room service meals were good and the renovations are all great. We would stay again as it is a great location and a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Spa bath room is lovely, romantic and beautifully furnished

We checked in for 3 nights on Thursday last week in June and found the rooms very modern and comfortable. The ambience in the hotel lobby, restaurant and bars was very inviting. We had dinner with our friends at a table by the open fire in the Embers bar on the first night. We were so happy with tht experience we went back to the Emnbers bar the next night. The breakfast buffet was really good with a lot of special touches in the food presentation. We also enjoyed a round of golf and the great views at the Leura golf course in the resort gounds. We found the whole stay very relaxing and enjoyed it very much. Our only problem was the pillows were too high and hard, but I am sure that their pillow menu will improve as time goes by. Great stay, our friends agree that we will will come back here again.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have better views

The hotel was tops except for the provision of parking.
We are amazed how many people do not understand what disabled parking is and who it is provided for.

My wife and I checked in here on the last Saturday in June. We had stayed here previously approx. 4 years ago. Upon checking in at 2pm we found a long queue at the reception desk. There were three receptionists on duty but it was a long wait never the less. After 10 mins another receptionist arrived and that helped speed things up. Perhaps they should consider a full compliment of reception staff at the busy 2pm period. We were given a room which did not command a majestic view as others in the hotel would, however the room was neat and had been refurbished since our previous stay. The decor was tasteful and pleasant but stopped at that. The bed was a very comfy king size and bed linen was also plush fresh and comfy. The mini bar was a real disappointment as was the coffee offerings, teas were the twinings range and made up somewhat for the miserable instant coffee sachets on offer. I feel a bit more can go into making the mini bar more appealing by offering a larger collection of spirits, ports cognacs etc...as well as snack items and quality wine and drinks accoutrements. The bathroom although renovated was not fantastic, the bath shower combo is long but very narrow with not much room to move. I would also recommend to relocate the soap dish as I kept hitting it with my elbow. The bath linen was fine but the toiletries on offer were reminiscent of a three star property. The room was very poorly insulated and I became very intimate with the workings of the families above and around us; including the toilet habits of these families as it was coming through as clear as if I were in the toilet with them. Soundproofing needs serious attention. The room service meal we ordered was delivered promptly and was tasty, fresh and well presented. A big tick to the kitchen. Another area of concern was our attempt to watch in house movies, we tried several titles at various times through the evening but were unable to view as the hotel had reached its limit on the titles we wanted to watch. Clearly with the start of the school holidays the management should have increased their capacity to offer this service. As for the public spaces the renovations gave a much needed lift to the place but one area they messed up was removing the wonderful lounge which hugged the big fireplace downstairs. This now has table and chairs and appears to be an overflow for the restaurant, what a pity as that bar/lounge area with its welcoming lodge like ambience was a real draw card. Overall the Fairmont has improved but I can't help but feel the sense that I've stepped onto a budget cruise ship about to set sail to Fiji; and that's fine if that's what your after but we were looking for something slightly different. That said I would probably return with the grand children when and if they eventuate.

The complimentary sparkiling wine and chocolate strawberries to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversay were a lovely touch. Thank you. The officious woman knocking on the door at 4pm to check the mini bar was not. This should have been checked before we checked in. It was intrusive and she was rude. The room was comfortable however as well as the king bed there were two day beds I would have preferred a sofa for sitting. The pillows were very full perhaps hotels in general should provide a flatter style pillow as well as a fuller style. The buffet dinner was OK however the trays could have been replenished before there was actually nothing left in them.
I understand that Accor are still updating this hotel and it has plenty of potential to be a top calss resort again. We didn't use the pool, gym or games rooms but they did look impressive.

Thank you Fairmont for your warm welcome and attentive service during our stay. It is great to see this icon being revived. The pool was wonderfully warm (which was so nice as the weather outside was pretty soggy) and the kids and I enjoyed this immensely. The Saturday night buffet is something to behold - excellent food and a chocolate fountain. Plenty of young brown faces with broad smiles. The resort was booked to the max, but service was still prompt and efficient. We had wanted 3 rooms close together - this was somehow overlooked, but 2 rooms were upgraded and very generous for the daily rate. We will return.
