“Wonderful room, average buffet dinner”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We booked this through a travel agent and I was really impressed when we arrived. It has a beautiful entrance and reception area, when you wander towards the restaurants you can see stunning views of the Blue Mountains.
We payed a little extra for our room and had gorgeous views over the mountains. The room itself was huge with all the usual amenities. The bathroom was very big and well equipped. I cannot complain about the room, it was perfect and I would book it again.
We ate dinner in the buffet style restaurant Jamisons and another night in Embers. Embers was great, lovely food and drink and wonderful service. Jamisons was not. Don't worry about getting dressed up for this place, it is casual. The buffet was expensive for very average food. Even though we were the last people to go in that night and it was pretty much empty, they still sat us next to another table which meant we had to keep moving our chairs to let the other couple out. Coffee from the machine was terrible, all the cakes were spongy and appeared shop purchased. The salad was ok and there was a selection of cold meats which was ok but I felt this part of the Fairmont experienced let them down.
Thankfully the bar served nice coffee and homemade cake and as I said, Embers was lovely.

Stayed December 2013, travelled as a couple

Thanks Sam,
I see your review is for December, and I hope we have addressed some of the restaurant items you mention already, but we have just appointed a new executive chef and will be reviewing the menu in all restaurants. Additionally we are redoing Jamisons Restaurant to increase capacity and modernise the buffet.
I do hope you will try us again in the future.
kind regards

The suite(s) in this so called 'resort' are ridiculously expensive for the quality of the room. The room featured quite a large living area. The living room had couch-beds, which we trailed one night. While the couches themselves were average, The mattresses felt and looked like they had been bought for $10. Some of the other furniture, however, was not too bad. There was a cupboard-type area, where the minibar was located, which, on inspection, had a broken draw. The management were very slow to respond when they were informed about this issue. It is possible, however, that their version of 'soon' is 2 hours.
The bathrooms were a welcome surprise, as the bath was quite nice, as were the washing basins. The shower, however, lacked quality, and had a pathetic head. The controls were not user-friendly at all. The resources that the 'resort' provides for washing are adequate.
The bedroom was an attempt at low grade luxury. The desk was useless, the room was small and the bed was horrific. The cheap mattress provided one of the most uncomfortable sleeps I have experienced in all of my stays at resorts and hotels around the world. It was unfortunate that I made the mistake of staying at this 'resort', and I have learned from my mistake.
The facilities on offer were useless, the pool was disgusting, the breakfast, lunch and dinner were disgusting, and the place itself was not up to par.

We spent one night in a Fairmont Room last week on a two day side trip from our vacation in Sydney to visit the Blue Mountains. Having read up a decent amount of reviews here, I have to agree with most that this is only a so-so resort, with rates higher than what it actually offers. It is unusually huge, with lots of resort-style facilities particularly for the kids - including oddly enough, a merry-go-round and an unexpectedly large cinema! It was really busy and yes, the reception area is under-staffed. We decided not to try any of their restaurants given the chaos that we witnessed and the not so favourable reviews. A peak into the breakfast buffet area confirmed our decision - it had an atmosphere of a staff canteen and food court.

The resort is beautiful though, just rather cold and impersonal as a result of slightly curt management and staff.

Thankyou for your comments on your recent stay, as you note, during the school holiday period the Resort and the restaurants are very busy. We are working to increase the variety and capacity of our restaurants to meet the ever increasing demands.

Check in was efficient and prompt. The hotel was 5-10 minutes drive to the Scenic World.

The hotel was renovating the kids' play room when we were there.
Rather aged-looking hotel, but with adequate facilities.
Was freezing cold when we visited so didn't try out the swimming pool.

Breakfast was decent with simple selection of food, not as good as what other reviewers wrote about. Definitely not the 5-star standard but convenient choice to have breakfast in the hotel.

The hotel itself offers so much, like a good fitness centre, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, kid zone play areas, arcades, a billiards room, tennis courts, a golf course...there's just too much! The breakfast was really good as well, with a wide selection of fruits, pastries, drinks, etc. The bar is alright as well, although a wider cocktail menu would be nice. The rooms are spacious and really comfortable, with two couches next to the window as well. Really enjoyed my stay here!

We spent 3 nights at the Fairmont in a superior room with a view out over the valley. Friendly staff, comfortable room, warm ( possibly a little hot for us Tassie tourists) and nice bar. The Yulefest dinner on Saturday night was excellent and we also dined at Embers on the other nights which provided good choices and tasty food.
But, we were a little perplexed when we were told the restaurants were fully booked (on two nights) then observed large numbers of seats (30+ at Yulefest) unoccupied. We were told Embers was full from 6 - 8.30 but were found a table at 6.00pm while 4 tables remained empty until we left at 8 o'clock. The mains at Embers we ordered were well cooked and tasty but were not the meals described on the menu eg asparagus instead of green beans, thin gravy instead of jus, scotch fillet instead of rib eye fillet.
The bar had a list of snacks listed but they were not available after 5pm. We ordered some nibbles and nuts but had 2 drinks without any nibbles being served.
There were lots of activities happening around the resort but there was nothing in the room or on a notice board to inform guests.
My partner had wanted to have a swim in the indoor pool but the thought of walking the length of the resort in bathers and the large number of children in the pool area meant a change of plans.
Lastly we were on the third floor and only one lift was operating. We tried the stairs but our card keys would not let us in through the door on our floor.
