Reviews indicate that = food is bordering upon excellent but the service is somewhere near the opposite. Also the restaurant's menu posted on the door warns customers of service expectations. Consequently, we booked and went along without high expectations.
Both couples are seasoned traveller's having visited France frequently. The ambience of the decor with open log fire, posters on the wall and general bric brac just lend to the atmosphere.
We were warmly greeted by Mde. Mirelle who seated us - explained the " specials" in a heavy French accent.
We - 2 couples ordered the escargot and scallops as entree and rabbit and duck as mains, with accompanying wine (fully licensed).
The entrees arrived in reasonable time however the mains took almost another 60 minutes to arrive - however we were warned - expectations met.
Food = escargot and scallops were as good as it gets, mains ? - rabbit was excellent - whole rabbit in a beautiful white wine sauce - the couple that had the duck were not so impressed - accompanied by a too rich red wine jus - spoilt the dish.
Summary, read the reviews, make up your mind - then if you love French provincial cooking go. The restaurant is a 2 person show as reviews correctly identify - chef (husband) in kitchen and Mirelle single handily managing the front of house. Mirelle has a wicked sense of humour, responds to schoolboy/girl French - entertaining, friendly > we thoroughly enjoyed our evening/experience and hope to return next year > recommended!
