Yes the service is slow - you are warned before you enter with a sign at the door. But to be perfectly honest we didn't mind one bit. The restaurant is full of character with the decor. But my fav character of all is Mirelle, she was so entertaining and truly made our night amazing.
Our wine was delicious - with a great selection of Australian and French varieties.
But the food wow - so very delicious and full of flavour. My crab crepe was exceptional - I could have had 2x!
My friends chicken she said was bursting with flavour and loved it.
Will definitely head back when in Leura.

On the recommendation of friends, we were told to 'experience' this interesting restaurant. We were warned that there could be a considerable wait for our order, "but when it finally arrives, you will completely forget about it" and that some nights "there is good free verbal entertainment between the owners"
We were warmly welcomed by Mde Mirelle who seated us at a table beside a welcome fire, she explained the menu along with a several 'specials'. We couldnt find fault with any of her service even though she managed the 'front' of the restaurant by herself. Our entrees arrived within what I would call reasonable timing. Then our 'mains' would have been around 30mins later - we were quite surprised as our expectation was for much later..all of our selections were delicious and beautifully plated. Overall, we were probably a bit disappointed that we had missed out on some 'expectations' - it was pretty much a normal restaurant! Mirelle has a delightful accent along with a quick wit - we thoroughly enjoyed our evening & wont hesitate to return or recommend.

Reviews indicate that = food is bordering upon excellent but the service is somewhere near the opposite. Also the restaurant's menu posted on the door warns customers of service expectations. Consequently, we booked and went along without high expectations.

Both couples are seasoned traveller's having visited France frequently. The ambience of the decor with open log fire, posters on the wall and general bric brac just lend to the atmosphere.

We were warmly greeted by Mde. Mirelle who seated us - explained the " specials" in a heavy French accent.

We - 2 couples ordered the escargot and scallops as entree and rabbit and duck as mains, with accompanying wine (fully licensed).

The entrees arrived in reasonable time however the mains took almost another 60 minutes to arrive - however we were warned - expectations met.

Food = escargot and scallops were as good as it gets, mains ? - rabbit was excellent - whole rabbit in a beautiful white wine sauce - the couple that had the duck were not so impressed - accompanied by a too rich red wine jus - spoilt the dish.

Summary, read the reviews, make up your mind - then if you love French provincial cooking go. The restaurant is a 2 person show as reviews correctly identify - chef (husband) in kitchen and Mirelle single handily managing the front of house. Mirelle has a wicked sense of humour, responds to schoolboy/girl French - entertaining, friendly > we thoroughly enjoyed our evening/experience and hope to return next year > recommended!

We did book, but it didn't seem to make a difference. The hostess was charming and undoubtedly entertaining, but the wait for our food was unbelievable and the explanation was that there were only herself and her husband. She kept popping in with updates, but it got a bit 'over the top'. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the delivery of food, people who came in much later got theirs earlier. When the food did arrive it was good.
The restaurant was drafty and we had to sit with our coats wrapped around our legs.
It was an interesting experience - a bit Faulty Towers - but we won't be going back any time soon.

The food is classic (straight out of Escoffier) and excellently prepared. The French Onion Soup was exactly as it should be. The service was friendly, slightly disorganised, but that simply added to the charm. Le Gobelet has character; an honest warmth that we thoroughly enjoyed (I think they prefer you to make a reservation).
