“Definitely not 4.5 star”
Reviewed 4 November 2011

We stayed at Raffles for 5 nights in October and as the most expensive accommodation we pre-booked this was to be the 'luxury stay' of our trip. Far from it. Our apartment on the 4th floor was dark, dated and definitely not 4.5 star. The carpet had dirty marks and the back of the hideous bedspread had an offputting yellow stain. It joined the plastic flowers and plants in the wardrobe during our stay! The second bedroom with two singles was more suitable for children and both bathrooms had no natural light and were poorly lit. There were marks on paintwork and the front door. Certainly the apartment was in need of an upgrade in both decor and furnishings. There was a nice view of the sea from the balcony and the property is very well located close to esplanade restaurants and the beach, but traffic and street noise were very noticeable at night. The swimming pool and spa were quite small and the spa empty when we saw it. There were no other facilities. A suitable property for families with children perhaps, but not the place for discerning travellers expecting 4-star plus standards.

Hi June 051
I'm sorry that our apartment did not come up to your expectations and I am surprised that you found the apartment to be dark and dated. I do however, agree with your comment on the decor and can advise that all individual apartment owners are currently deciding on new material to replace the existing bed spreads and cushion covers
Our apartments are designed for families, our biggest market, and as such have a standard bedding configuration of 1 x queen bed and 2 x single beds. We will however, on request, exchange the 2 x single beds for another queen bed.
Thank you for bringing to my attention the stained bed spread lining. I will attend to this immediately. I was already aware of the few carpet stains and had booked in the carpet cleaner prior to your visit.
Unfortunately we had to leave the spa empty for three days during your stay for maintenance.

Ground floor spa apartment was great. Close enough to the action of Mooloolaba and at a good price. Room has been nicely renovated and was very comfortable. Will stay here again.

This was a repeat visit for us and have stayed in two other rooms previously on the fourth floor both of which were better than the room we had this time on the 3rd floor - it was a little more dated and a few things not working (fan in the bathroom and door to balcony - nothing that was a big worry). Last time we stayed was New Year's Eve and it was actually quieter than this weekend! Not sure if it was our room or just the weekend but it was quite rowdy with party and street noise and children playing and running around. We were staying for our anniversary and hoping to relax this weekend and it didn't quite have the wow factor or solitude for us although the location is fantastic and the room was clean and spacious. The spa in the pool was a little off putting - a bit slimy but that could have been from the 10 kids in it the day before. The duty manager is very nice and always of service. Overall a great spot with spacious rooms and all the facilities - great for a fun weekend or a weekend with the family. Just not the ideal romantic geataway.

Room Tip: Corner ocean view rooms or rooms on north end of building a bit quieter than those on the south end.

Hi taylordn
Thank you for taking the time to comment on another return visit to Raffles.
We are sorry to learn that this special holiday occasion didn't quite have the wow factor or solitude that you were hoping for.
With regards to the apartment decor I am currently waiting on all of the apartment owners to settle on a standard fabric before replacing the bed spreads and all cushion covers.
The cause of the slimy outside spa water was the result of some unknown soapy substance being tipped into the spa. As soon as it came to my attention the spa was emptied and the filters flushed out with an acid clean.
We look forward to you next visit.
Regards
Bob james

We were very impressed. It was clean, comfortable and so perfectly located for a quick walk to the beach and restaurants. A perfect place to stay with children as no where is too far to walk. Just loved that we arrived parked the car and then didn't need it at all until we left. Planning our return trip as we left!

We had a lovely stay at Raffles. Due to heavy bookings I took a ground floor unit but my disappointment at not having a view was cancelled out by the spacious and beautifully treed courtyard. such a relaxing setting and would be perfect for thise with small children. Also well protected from the weather.
The decor in the unit was lovely, we were very impressed and would definitely stay again.

Love this place so much we revisited! Located so close to the beach/shops/restaurants we had everything we needed for a perfect getaway. The rooms are wonderfully decorated, with their own balconies, and roof access for penthouse with BBQ. Will definitely be coming back!

Room Tip: Any, depending on how high up you want your room to be.

We stayed in a garden room which was perfect for us. We have infant twins, which meant no flights of stairs, the pool was right outside our door & the exit door was nearby too. Coles, chemist, BWS was only a 2min walk away and the resturants were also very close by. We walked everywhere!
If I was to give constructive critisim, I that I would have liked to see more cleaning products provided. Especially, if they ask u to clean the apartment before you leave, or there will be a cleaning charge of $50. But I am a bit of a fusspot. And our smoke detector went off from the steam in bathrm, not smoke :)
But I would still come back. I would just be more prepared 8:) :)8

Hi Busyma.
We are thrilled that your family had an enjoyable stay in one of our courtyard apartments. Our ground floor apartments are ideal for families with infants insofar that the apartment living area opens into a private and enclosed courtyard.
To clarify a misunderstanding, we do not expect our departing guests to clean the apartment. We employ professional cleaners to do this, hence the lack of provided cleaning products. The cleaning charge you refer to would only be applied in extreme cases where the apartment was left in a very untidy state.
We thank you for your comments and look forward to your return visit.
Kind regards
Bob James
