“Dated rooms, 'private spa' slightly misleading. You get what you pay for.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2012

My partner and I chose this place when the Landmark's spa rooms were booked out. We booked a 1bdr apartment with a 'private spa' however, there is little to no privacy involved.

We assumed that we would have a private staircase to our 'private' spa. No. You have to walk out of your room, up several flights of stairs in a dank & slippery stairwell, so take some warm clothes for the walk back! We were disappointed, but a private spa is a private spa, right?

Well, no, not if your room faces the interior of the building. Because of the L shape of the building, you can see into everybody's 'private spa' and they can all see into yours. There is no privacy screening at all to make these spas feel anywhere near 'private' - it was like being in a zoo exhibit!!

Same with the balconies overlooking the main (very, very loud) pool, the rooms to either side are angled & the walls between them not high.. there is literally no privacy anywhere unless you hole up in your room, so if that's what you're after, I suggest looking somewhere else - or make sure you get a room on the outer wall of the building.

The inside of the apartment was dated, and the bed & pillows were pretty awful, flat skinny little pillows & springs jabbing you in the bum.

However, it was clean & tidy and the location is top notch. The reception staff were lovely & very helpful. It's not luxurious by any means, but the price is good at $150 a night for a 1bdr spa apartment.

It's definitely a more family orientated place and for a family spending a week or so, or a group of friends, it would be suitable. But I wouldn't recommend it for a couple or anybody looking for some peace and quiet & a bit of privacy.

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay with us at Nautilus Mooloolaba.

Our rooftop apartments are very popular and I must say we have not had any previous comments about there being a lack of privacy. These apartments are advertised as ‘having a separate rooftop area including spa and BBQ for personal use’ and whilst two of them do have their own private staircase to the rooftop, we do not advertise the rooftop apartments as such.

Regarding your comments about the bed, for guests who are used to a softer bed, we have topper pads available on request as well as extra pillows.

We are pleased you found the resort clean and tidy which is what we strive to achieve.

We hope that your experience during a very busy period will not deter you from returning and we sincerely look forward to welcoming you back with us again.

The position of these apartments was fabulous. The staff were exceptionally accommodating and the entrance and pool area were always very tidy and welcoming. We found the beds to be quite hard. The apartment was tidy, but with only one bathroom for a family to share.

We have been going back to this place for weekends over several years and are always very happy with it. It is a great location, being short walk to beach and all the shops and restaurants as well as the wharf and the attractions there. Only view is from the little balcony which is where the only table is, but with two people, this is enough as we generally eat out.
We only go on weekends and not in school holidays, so most of the time there are no noisy/whingy kids around. The pool and spa area are very attractive and always clean and the Thai restaurant there is very good. Considering its position, the price is good, even though the apartments are small and decor is dated.

The apartment we had on the second floor suited us very well. I loved the angles in the lounge - so different from flat straight walls. Two balconies, 2 tv's - very well appointed with plenty of drawers and cupboards. Large bathroom with spa, nice view over the marina and excellent value. There are plenty of restaurants and food outlets within walking distance. Got a bit noisy on Friday night - but I guess you get hoons racing up and down everywhere. If it bothers you, close the doors, with air conditioning and fans there is no problem with noise. Our unit had a huge bench top area with four stools so had no need for a dining table. Would agree that one towel per person is rather sparse but otherwise no complaints and we will return.

Room Tip: Don't get a lot of choice when the room rate is only $80, but we were very happy with ours.

We had a special deal which made our stay good value. I agree with other reviewers that noise is a problem. One noisy/whingy kid in the pool area and we all hear about it! However the sliding doors and windows were good for shutting out the noise. We had room 59 and the roof top spa. Views quite nice although not full ocean view. You need to ask on booking what you will be able to see! Daggy furniture, but well equipped kitchen, 2 TV's spa in bathroom. I would stay again, but never at rack rate.

Room Tip: Ask if you have a river or ocean view.

"You get what you pay for" is evident here.

Rooms are small and dated - we were all quite suprised how compact this was in comparison to other units we had stayed at in the area. As others have mentioned - no dining table (unless you drag the patio table indoors). One bathroom is unusual for 2 bedroom coastal holiday units and can be inconvenient.

Whilst only walking distance to the beachfront - unfortunately it is also stumbling distance for all of the late night drunks and drifters from the bars at the nearby wharf. Be prepared to hear a lot of road noise and a lot of wandering late night yelling and profanity from the streets below into the early hours of the morning. Of course, this isn't a fault of the units themselves as we have had the same issue on previous stays at other units nearby (we had hoped it was just a seasonal issue then but obviously not). It may be quieter on the other side of the complex - but the rooms facing the back street get the noise of the streets, 6am rubbish trucks, drunks and large airconditioner exhaust unit droning at the car park entrance.

Some of the noise is also internal however, with late night tennants taking noisy pools swims at times.

Staff are helpful - but that doesn't overcome the shortcomings of the rooms and noisy location - no doubt - it pays to pay more and try elsewhere.
