“What a hostel!”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

This hostel was fantastic! we arrived when the desk was closed but managed to get into our room and checked in with a very friendly guy when the desk opened again.
The facilities were great (as would be expected for such a new hostel) and the kitchen and lounges were large and furnished really well. We drank wine on the roof terrace and could see the whole of the bay.
Our room was good, we had a double, no ensuite, but the shared bathrooms were clean and spacious. We liked the balcony on the room and the french doors out onto it.
The hostel is right in the middle of town and in the evening we walked into the town for fish and chips as recommended by the Hostel Manager.
This was one of the best hostels we stayed in in Australia and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Sad I only had one night here. The owners were absolutely lovely, giving us a discount due to low season. The hostel is really well designed, such as a communal area without a TV, large kitchen, coat hangers and a fold down table :) as there are only two hostels in Apollo bay this is really good value for money and right in the town, even if it is a small town!

My wife and I love travelling 4 hours to this Apollo Bay Eco YHA. We discovered it many years ago when we were looking for a romantic getaway. What we discovered was that Apollo Bay was for us, a much nicer place to stay by the beach instead of the over crowded tourist towns of Lorne and Torquay.

The Eco YHA is split over two levels with a separate sleeping wing, ensuring that you get a good nights sleep.

There is a lounge and kitchen on both levels allowing for many people to cook at the same time. They even have a herbs from their herb garden that you can use to add to your meals. If we weren't relaxing on the beach, we would be lounging on the comfy couches. Often, we travelled against the grain (i.e. winter) and would enjoy a glass of wine next to the wood fire in the lounge room. However, they have a roof deck that you can chillax and watch the sunset with views of the bay.

The two owners were lovely and their staff always helpful. The place was well cleaned and plenty of amenities.

Keep in mind:
If you want to surf, stick to Torquay.

Room Tip: If you want to surf, stick to Torquay. Otherwise, Apollo Bay is a great place for couples and famili...

This place is a great hostel!

I recently stayed one night on a trip of the scenic GOR and longer trip from Adelaide to Melbourne. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful; walking around to check on things and showing hospitality to guests was great. There are loads of social space including two lounges, two kitchen areas, a rooftop patio and more. I stayed in a 4 bed male room and it was plenty comfortable with nice beds, comforters and storage lockers.

There were a lot of families compared to most hostels but they were all very friendly as were other travelers including backpackers from all over the world.

My one criticism of my stay was that Wi-Fi is charged. I understand this is done YHA-wide but it's the 21st Century, internet is expected.

The three of us had a private room for one night and found it sufficient for our needs.

I liked that the place looks new and generally clean with inviting communal areas. Staff were helpful and gave us some good tips for dinner.

At the end of the day it's still a hostel, albeit a good one, with the expected drawbacks. Eg. don't expect towels and toiletries to be provided, and do expect to wait for the shared toilets and showers.

Our room was pretty basic for the price, and may be squeezy if there are more than 2 suitcases. I was also disappointed with the lack of wifi in the private room; apparently wifi access can be purchased for use in certain areas in the hostel.

Room Tip: Get a room on the ground floor if you have heavy luggage.

Stayed here for one night with my partner on our way through on the Great Ocean Road. We stayed in a private room. As expected, it was quite small, with shared amenities. We were surprised to find out that towels were not included in the price. Overall ok, but expensive for what it is

Our group of ten stayed over a period of three nights altogether, and found it to be clean, well presented, and comfortable beds!
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The YHA is just a short walk away from the main part of Apollo Bay and beach.
Would recommend it for couples, singles, families and groups.

Room Tip: Choose ground floor to avoid carrying luggage upstairs! We were lucky enough to have ground floor ro...
