“An elegant weekend away”
Reviewed 24 November 2011

As you sit under the verandah looking out to Glen Isla's beautiful gardens, it feels as though you are sitting in an setting of a Ralph Lauren photo shoot. Dotted with classic white buildings and surrounded by a manicured garden, it is hard to believe that you are not holidaying in a B&B somewhere in country France or England, but on Phillip Island. We travelled as a family and reserved two classic rooms. We enjoyed Madeleine's hospitality and appreciated the attention to detail that has been put into the design of the property and specifically, the rooms. The rooms were furnished tastefully - comfortable and traditional without being over the top. I liked the fact that the closet, mini fridge and tea/coffee making facilities had its own room which eliminates the noise from a humming fridge and keeps your luggage tucked away out of sight from your bedroom. Breakfast was delicious, with hot items made to order and a selection of juices, muffins and other continental items that you can help yourself to. Make the most of the experience by relaxing with a newspaper in hand on your verandah, take the direct path for a walk to the beach or sit in the garden with a cuppa.

Our stay at Glen Isla was a gift and it turned out to be a very lovely present indeed.

All the little details of what makes a relaxing retreat have been thoughtfully considered at Glen Isla. The rooms and gardens are beautiful, and the breakfast is exceptional. Our friendly hosts showed a genuine interest in our overall experience of the island and had lots of good recommendations. First class.

We stayed for two nights, we are from Melbourne and well travelled, so weren't really planning to be impressed locally.

We were wrong, Glen Ilsa is a beautifully restored B/B with authentic 1800 Australian feel, It is stylish the whole experience is classy and friendly. Madeline and Ian are knowledgeable about Phillip Island and steered us in the right direction in terms of things to see and where to dine. Breakfast was great, free range eggs and a choice of almost anything you could want.

It is the best accomodation on he Island.

Thanks indeed for your comment which encompasses much of our underlying philosophy and the experience we seek to offer guests.

Having also lived and travelled extensively in Europe and the USA over many years, these experiences influenced the accommodations and style of hospitality we offer here at at Glen Isla House.

Excellent quality accommodation in a superb setting, close to the beach. We stayed in the self-contained cottage so can't comment on the food! Very hospitable hosts.

Thanks for your kind words. We offer both traditional B&B style accommodations and self-cater accommodations. Having stayed in may self-cater accommodation offerings all over the world, we appreciate what our guests are seeking, and clearly The Gate Cottage met with your approval!

One of our pet dislikes when staying in self-cater style accommodations is that most often even the basic amenities are missing from the kitchen. That's why we offer pretty much everything you would need if you decide to cook in our "fully equipped" kitchen - right down to the olive oil and spices!

My friend and I took our Mums to Phillip Island one weekend and we stayed in the Cottage at Glen Isla House. The Cottage was amazing, in a great location and and comes fully equipped if you so choose to cook, right down to herbs and spices, sauces and other condiments etc. The property is stunning and a credit to Madeline and Ian who are the most helpful and lovely hosts. We enjoyed our time so much and would not hesitate to recommend to any other traveller/s. Thanks so much!

We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and thanks for the very kind words.

We treat our guests as we would like to be treated when we travel...

The Gate Cottage is a wonderful setting under the 100 year-old oaks, and it seems you found our self-cater accommodations to your liking!

After travelling around Melbourne and staying in various different locations my husband and I were very tired and needed to just chill. The hosts are very friendly (without being over bearing). The resident dog Nancy was an added bonus as I was missing my three doggies at home. Glen Isla house was certainly a tonic for us. Very relaxing, in a beautiful location and very professionally run establishment. This was the best hotel / guest house we stayed in during our vacation. We really wished that we were booked in for more than the one night. Thank you very much for the experience. It was lovely.

Thanks for your kind words. Indeed your comments reflect the many comments in our guest book here at Glen Isla, and in particular from our international visitors who often remark that one night is simply not enough time to enjoy what Phillip Island has to offer, and the heritage gardens at Glen Isla House...
