“most uncomfortable bed we ever slept on!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2013

We came away here to de- stress for a couple of nights.
the bed was so uncomfortable we both had back ache in the morning!
We were already stressed from work so did not want to add more stress to our stay by complaining so the the next night we slept on the sofa bed head to toe, not enough room for us as we are both tall so yet another bad night....
There were no saucepans, can opener, knifes, collander, etc.....this was supposed to be a self catering apartment it was not posssible to make our own meals.....
Its called the lorne bay view and the view we had was of other apartments in front of us.
On leaving we complained about the beds and the lady on reception said that we could of asked her for saucepans as she has a stack of them in reception! seems like a strange place to keep them when there is no sign in the room saying this?
We paid 175 a night through flight centre and would definatley not stay there again.
terrible t.v reception...
internet was very expensive....13 dollars an hour. (we found a lovely cafe in town with free WI FI.
GOOD POINTS.

The staff and manager seemed friendly so no complaints there.
Good location.
Air con was good.
no other good points

Room Tip: we are regular visitors to lorne....we have since been to the best western.....its cheaper and COMFO...

My partner and i stayed here for 2 nights, the staff were lovely, the view was great (executive room) however you would want to stay in either room 101, 102, 103, or 104 any further rooms to the right and most of your view would be of the back of the pub, nice bathroom with spa bath and all you need for the weekend for a couple!

Its in a great location getting views and only being a 2 minute walk from the main street shops and beach. The only downside (not the hotels fault, which is a shame for them) but on a saturday night the pub has a dj on the deck outside about 3 metres from the balconys and the music went till nearly 2am! Then patrons filter out and make so much noise, then both saturday and sunday mornings a rubbish truck reverses down the alley between the balconys and the pub and collects all the pubs rubbish which woke us up both mornings so didnt get much sleep.

If your an early riser and dont really mind noise its in a great spot, but if you want abit of peace and rest you don't get much.

We travelled from Adelaide to Melbourne over a 2 week period staying at some magnificent places such as Robe, Port Fairy and of course Lorne. We had previously stayed here at the Comfort Inn and enjoyed our stay so we decided to once again. How things have changed in one year!
On arrival we were met at Reception by a lady who proceeded to tell us everything we couldn't do to the point of telling us two or three times that if we checked out late there would be a hefty fee. I would have rather have been met with a person who actually wanted us to enjoy our stay by actually making us feel 'welcome' rather than making us feel like we were intruding on them.
Well it didn't get any better. Our friends stayed in the apartment next door to reception and unfortunate it had clear glass doors. Once Reception had closed, many groups of people knocked on the door thinking it was part of Reception. It didn't help that on two occasions Reception closed at 7:30 instead of 8pm. I hope they were 100% full as on both nights 3 to 4 groups of people wanted a room for the night.
One poor gentleman who was travelling by himself locked himself out of his room at 7.40pm, there was no Reception, nor was there any after hours contact number. We tried helping him by calling the Comfort Inn head office who were also unhelpful and we even tried the Police without luck. Whilst helping him a couple arrived around 10pm, they couldn't speak English so I ended up showing them to their room (well I think it was anyway). By chance we found a set of ‘Master Keys” in the pot plant outside of Reception and were able to let our tourist friend into his room. Not long after a couple arrived and proceeded to retrieve the "master" keys from the pot plant. They were obviously friends of the owners/managers but none of the three families who witnessed this were impressed by having keys to the whole complex sitting around.
There were other issues like a missing fire extinguisher; fire hose reels broken etc which should a fire breakout, I fear the worst.
Essentially the owners have let this place run down and if you stay here you will be disappointed. Luckily we stayed at some other great places along the way.
Our feedback was given to Reception; we asked to speak to the Manager/s without luck and I’m sure they we deny aspects of the above but we have witnesses and even photo evidence of the keys and fire equipment issues..

We stayed in the Deluxe Spa Apartment overnight while on tour of VIC/NSW. Booked this accommodation for 2 adults+2 kids in Sep 12 for Jan 13 stay. They charged our credit card with the total amount straight after booking (no other of the 9 motels we stayed in charged full amt before arrival). When I rang them about a week before arrival to re-confirm, they said they only expected 2 people staying....had to reassure them there was 4 of us. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a semi-friendly receptionist who had to come in and turn the convertible sofa into a functional bed for our kids. The spa had filthy jets, some with no covers and we couldn't get the spa to work either. One of the bathroom spot-lights was hanging on a wire from the ceiling. TV signal was very poor (especially CH7) and couldn't be fixed by owners. Worst of all was the noisy location, right next to the local pub which our room faced! They played such loud live music in outdoor garden since about mid-afternoon that we couldn't even hear each other speaking in the room. At night, our room was penetrated with bass waves coming from a discotheque which raged right into the early morning hours. Sleep was impossible for many hours. A surly receptionist advised us that she enjoys the music during this time of year and that they had no other room available to give us... At $244, this was an overpriced, worst stay we’ve ever had.

We had a last minute change of plans, so walked off the street and took a room knowing it was in holiday season and rather expensive. Sure, the facility as ok, but I can't say we were over enthused. We were told there were units with spas, then on taking the room were told we were being upgraded and also mentioned that the hotel we were overlooking would have loud music until 10.30pm which was ok with us. Unfortunately, there wasn't a spa in the room (?) and the loud music began late afternoon, but in any case we figured this was a hit and miss situation and made the most of our stay.

The small balcony had no outdoor seating and flyscreen slipping off tracks. Why can't these owners add a little more than a little less to their investment to have recommendations rather than negatives. Not sure. Beds were comfortable, large bathroom and adequate kitchen facilities for our needs.

We booked this hotel on a Living Social Deal with breakfast, wine, chocolates and late check out included for a very good price. After reading a couple of the other reviews, honestly we were unsure what to expect. However, our concerns did not eventuate when we were greeted by the friendly manager. The large room had a balcony and all the facilities were very clean and in good condition. In fact, the bedding etc were spotless and the bed very comfy and we slept very well. The spa bath very easy to use and very relaxing in the evenings.

The managers did not forget our extras and they were helpful to all our requests. It totally met our needs and we were very happy- so happy that I am writing this review whilst enjoying our late checkout here at the hotel.

Hotel prices everywhere are based on demand. Lorne isn't cheap in general and whilst I agree full price can seem steep, good deals can usually be had if demand doesn't exceed need ie. before the summer rush, winter etc. It's the same for hotels anywhere. I've paid $99 for deluxe rooms in Darling Harbour in Sydney but a month later the same room was $450! Prebooking usually gives a better rate anyway so people need to be aware of this and should expect to pay a higher rate on walk up or last minute booking.

To the reviewer than mentioned the sign about the cockatoos. It was honest asking people not to feed the birds . This is important to me as a wildlife rescuer knowing that hand feeding is killing our wildlife and from the hotel owners point of view, birds being handfed become agitated, demanding & often very aggressive -overstaying their welcome and messing up the balconies. No guest wants to walk out onto a balcony covered in bird poop or chew damage! The plus side though is that the birds still visit without food but their stay is orderly and not long enough to cause damage or excessive bird poop! We got to enjoy these birds close up twice a day and they were well behaved since we didn't offer them any food. They flew off after a few minutes looking elsewhere for food but we got a fun experience.

My partner and i stayed here on a mini tour of the great ocean road. We arrived fairly late in the day and just booked a room there and then. Sadly without checking the room first. It was a shame a it has so much potential. Its in a good location and our room had an excellent view. The room could only be described as dirty, i even found a bit of meat on the sofa which had began to turn into jerky. The sofa needed to be professionally cleaned , it resembled a sofa that a been used as a bed and dinner table for a fair amount of time. There was a used ashtray on our balcony. As mentioned before its a shame as the potentials there, the management and staff could do more about this. Considering the rooms i feel they are very over priced. Also being from the scotland i love cockatoos. There were signs blue tac to the walls saying cockatoos are dirty and destructive. This is fair enough its a treat for us to see them. Having them on the balcony to talk to was a good way to spend time out the room. My fiance put a tshirt over her pillow before she would use it. Am not one to normally write reviews and coming from a hospitality management background i know a negative review is never fun to get. But its also the only way your service can get better. Wish it could have been better
