“bad booking agents”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

we booked apartment 6 drove 3 hours to get to lorne up the stairs ready to unpack and
there was people in apartment 6 the agent had double booked the room.
we called into GREAT OCEAN RETREATS and lilli was very rude and was blaming us.
after settling down they gave us a free night, it cost $70 in petrol
we still love the apartment.

Room Tip: 5 and 6 have the best views

We booked to stay in apartment 4 over the busiest week in Lorne, when the Pier to Pub is on. The room rate is expensive but we know how quickly Lorne is booked out at this time. The booking agent Great Ocean Retreats required $1300 of the total $2400 as a deposit. In late Oct our circumstances changed and we needed to cancel, we were a few days outside the 10% booking cancellation, so were to pay 50% of the full rental +$50, the agent said that if they re-let the apartment they could give us a whole amount back. If you've been to Lorne at in that first week of January you know how busy it is- the problem is that Great Ocean Retreats have kept the property as booked out for the week we wish to cancel, so no one is going to re-book it as it looks unavailable. I've called, email and called again. No return call and no change to their website.
Given the poor reviews of the property I can see on Trip Advisor maybe we've dodged a bullet paying only 50%.
We now have a little place in :Lorne and if we decide to rent it out we will certainly try to rememeber to have some idea of customer service and fairness.

Stayed for 2 nights in apartment 4 on lower floor October 2012. Main bedroom comfortable, bathroom ok but shower screen inadequate as water easily ends up on floor, kitchen good, dining table and chairs timber and comfortable, sofas hard as rocks and totally uncomfortable, tv too small for such a large room and balcony view useless as looks into plain ugly courtyard. Heater hard to work out and slow as it is two column types with hot water flowing through them. No fan assistance or air-con. . I would not like to stay for a long time as main furniture uncomfortable. Also only 1 1/2 rolls of toilet paper - lucky I keep a spare for emergencies in car! Could not recommend to friends to stay in.

I stayed here in 2001 and it was lovely and modern, and really clean. It is quite obvious that it has been neglected over the past few years and it's under new management. The front courtyard needs a good clean and the especially goes for the bathrooms. There is mould everywhere and I felt uncomfortable taking a shower. The balcony needed a good clean and sweep and the there fingerprints all over the balcony doors and front door. The reception is always closed so there is no way you can get extra towels. Really disappointed in my stay.

Room Tip: If you decide to stay, go for the upstairs apartments, the bottom ones are too noisy.

The minimalist decor in the apartments is fine, but the bathroom in Apartment 5 is really offputting with its built up mould, no doubt caused by the crazy bathroom design that means the room is flooded every time you have a shower. Views and location are great.

Room Tip: Upstairs apartments feature great views. Don't go for Apartment 1 as I don't think it has an...

We stayed for two nights in Apartment 5, which is in on the upper floor and has water views. I enjoyed listening to the waves overnight - being the middle of winter the town was very quiet and it was nice to be able to feel so close to the beach. The apartment was spacious, well equipped and comfortable - I liked the so-called "minimalism" as that's what you want in a beach apartment. One hitch - we couldn't operate the central heating for love or money - it simply wouldn't work even though we followed all the directions to the letter. And in the middle of winter - you do need some heating! Fortunately there was also a column (electric) heater in the cupboard so that took the chill off the air. The apartments are well located right in the centre of the main street - so easy to walk to eateries and right opposite the beach. An enjoyable stay.
