“Portside Motel; A Gem”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

Apart from the many pluses I will detail below, this was the only motel of five visited on the GOR that provided adequate internet facilities. Not just adequate, but exceptional. Excellent wifi coverage and unlimited free high-datarate internet access.

I have a rental apartment on the Gold Coast and I always do a secondary clean after the paid cleaner has finished. So yes, I am fastidious about my place being clean for my incoming guests. Clearly, the owners of the Portside are just as fastidious. The place was spotless. And they have included everything you are likely to need. Our room (7) even had a large kitchen sink with mixer tap, together with enough cutlery and crockery for the two of us. Not just one bath mat, but two; lots of tea and coffee, big bath towels etc. - generous owners, these folks.

Don't be put off by the externals of the place. Externally, it doesn't look as flashy as some of the other motels in Port Campbell. But looks can be deceiving. This motel is number one on Tripadvisor because it has earned that place. Go stay there; you will not be disappointed.

Our only regret is not staying two nights in Port Campbell. It is the closest town to the Twelve Apostles and there is a lot to see in the area. The Portside Motel is owned by John and Josie McInerney. Josie runs the motel and John, who was a park ranger for twenty-six years, runs The Port Campbell Touring Company. So a couple of nights at the motel with one of John's day tours would be the ideal Port Campbell visit.

Nice friendly welcome, lovely room, not large but well fitted with small screened patio, Spotless room all mod cons, free wifi and very good quiet aircon. The wet room rather than cubicle shower was clean and the water nice and hot. Good base for Appostles and other sights on GOR. On the edge of town a few minutes walk to centre for shops, food and drink.

Stayed in this motel while visiting GOR, Victoria. Checked-in and cheeked-out was simple and quick, host was friendly and has lots of knowledges on the local attractions and eateries around Port Campbell. Room is spacious, clean and quiet. The only concern was the shower was not partitioned, so the bathroom floor will be wet and cold during the cold seasons.

We stayed at this motel during a 3 day Melbourne - Great Ocean Road - Ballarat - Melbourne drive. Not a 5 star motel, but you will not be disappointed. It was reasonably clean, spacious and had big rooms. We did have a few concerns, but the management was quick to resolve them. Overall, a very good place to spend a night at Port Campbell.

Unfortunately we only had one night in this lovely town. We chose the Portside Motel after reading great reviews and we were thrilled we did. Right from the start Josie made us feel really welcome, the room was more like a unit than a motel room, very nice rooms & very clean. Walking distance from the main shops & restaurants. We are looking forward to returning to this area & staying at Portside Motel again. Thank you

We booked the Portside Motel for one night during our tour along the Great Ocean Road. The room was big, clean and adequately equipped. John, one of the owners, was very friendly and helpful. We can fully recommend the accommodation.
