“Wonderful art-filled quirky hotel makes for a fun stay”

From the first glimpse the Cullen is fun. It's warm, inviting rooms are a pleasure to inhabit with dekiciously comfortable bedding, well designed kitchenettes and small but perfectly formed bathrooms. We had a little balcony which would have been perfect for a glass of wine overlooking Melbourne city lights if we hadn't hit Melbourne on the wettest windiest day since 1995! Breakfast was easy at the Terrace cafe (somewhat amateur outfit, but adequate enough) next to the hotel lobby, and then the following day at a lively local cafe called Babble. The Cullen staff are young, friendly and give good local advice. We also scored complimentary tickets for Art Melbourne from the reception - a lovely treat. Parking is worth buying at $25 per day as it's pretty hard finding it on the narrow streets around the hotel. Be sure to pop over the road and wander through the Prahan produce markets as well for a Deli treat or two. We had a ball there.

Room Tip: Check the rooms out because some have balconies that use up floor space and ask for a king bed if yo...

You got caught up in the weather of Melbourne I see - we had a month of rain in 24 hours! Glad to read that you braved it for a glass of Wine on the Balcony.
We hope you come along again soon and next time the sun is shining.
Cheers,
Alicia and the Cullen Crew

A fab art hotel, very up to the minute, but still retaining good old - fashioned service! We found staff helpful and attentive. Art work uniquely fun. Beds so comfortable.
Only thing I would warn, as others have also said, is the bathroom wall is frosted glass, so don't book twin room if you are shy ! (although there are huge curtains dividing the bed areas which can be used for privacy)
Just walk to great Chapel st. shopping and a plethora of cafes and restaurants. Tip... French toast at the hotel cafe best I have had anywhere!

Clean, comfortable and convennient. Loved Prahran market and market lane coffee across the road is a gem. Can't get any easier than the tram to town just down road. This whole hotel is stylish and funky and well worth a visit.

Great hotel in a fantastic location; really easy to get into the centre of Melbourne by tram and thus located in an area a little less corporate than many of the hotels. Brilliant food market opposite the hotel and some nice restaurants and bars nearby (cool not swanky). But, do look up the artist Cullen's work before you go - if your hotel taste is more 'country cottage' you may feel a little peculiar going to sleep opposite a Cullen canvas.

We are Happy to read that you got to check out the Prahran Markets - they are amazing and the Cullen crew visit them regularly. Adams art work is very quirky and there are some great stories behind the meanings of them, next time you stay we would love to chat to you about them! Agree they are worth a look before you stay.
Thanks for the feedback!

Daughter, granddaughter and myself enjoying a very nice stay in a very nice trendy hotel, good service, very nice surroundings, but the Terrace Restaurant, which is linked to this hotel (they do the roomservice for this hotel as well) is terrible, which is noticable as there are very few people to be seen there. We had one meal, which was OK but overpriced we think in comparison to other restaurants in Melbourne in the same type of setting, but when I went down to have another meal with my little granddaughter of three, the service was rude, not interested and no effort was made to come our way. I asked for a small meal for the three year old and was told that if she wanted fish they could only offer the 32 dollar Barramundi dish that was on t he daily special. Bad!
The Hutong Chinese Restaurant also linked to this hotel was very good in our view.
What is the Cullen going to do about this Terrace Restaurant? It is not a good advertisement at all for such a nice hotel - get rid of them!

Without feedback be it negaitive or positive how can we improve? So I thank you for your feedback.
Whilst the hotel Restaurant is not owned or operated by The Cullen, we still take your feedback on board and feel complelled to follow up on your experience. Terrace Bar & Bistro would like to point out that they are in the process of relaunching under new management and that any problems in the past should not be reoccurring and your matter has been resolved internally. They are also a family friendly venue able to cater for all ages.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family back again soon and you can be sure the same experience won't happen again. On a good note I am gald to read that you enjoyed the hotel.

Many Thanks,
Alicia and The Cullen Team

I decided to stay at the Cullen instead of chancing a drive home following a company Christmas party. From the first moment l arrived l was greeted with a smile and a quick check in. My room was excellent decorated with the art works of Adam Cullen. The decor of the room is beautiful, clean, spacious, a very comfortable king size bed. Shower is wonderful.
Dinner was lovely in the restaurant and breakfast was delicious.
The location of the hotel is also close to all the shops in Prahran and a walk across the road to the Prahran Market. All up a very pleasant way to spend a night and day. I would highly recommend the Cullen.

Rather than stay in the centre of Melbourne for our mother/daughter weekend, we opted to stay in Prahran, close to the wonderful shops in High Street Armadale, Chapel Street and Toorak. And we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. It features the art of Adam Cullen and contemporary decor. We had a quiet room at the back of the hotel on the 4th floor, with 2 queen beds each with a tv, curtaining to partition the large room if you wanted to read at night, a kitchenette if you want to 'do' for yourself, a small but adequate bathroom, and nice touches like art books and current magazines. The staff are efficient, friendly and very obliging. The Terrace restaurant downstairs is really very good, and its staff are fantastic as well. If you want to go into the city, take the 72 tram on the next corner. An all round superb experience. Since reading other reviews am just sorry we didn't go up on the roof for a drink. It has a gym too which we didn't visit.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back

Well we are glad to read that you wouldn't stay anywhere else. Next time you come back you will have to have a drink up on the deck and check out the Street art in the Gym - its new and amazing!

Alicia
