“Out of town but very quiet and good facilities”
Reviewed 27 June 2011

We looked at several motels in Stawell but were not impressed with any we saw so we travelled to this motel on the edge of town and were not disappointed. The motel was set well back from the road and was spacious with a nice rural outlook from the rear of the unit. The motel rooms are set back from the road so traffic on the highway is not a problem. There was almost no-one in the motel so it was very quiet. Unfortunately you have to pay for internet connection which is disappointing and the room was expensive compared to others we looked at. We had to use the small blow heater as the room was quite cold despite reverse cycle air conditioning. In our view the nicest motel we saw in Stawell but definitely not the cheapest.

Room Tip: Don't waste time looking at other motels.

Often use this motel on our way to Melbourne. It is quiet, clean and spacious as well as having easy parking for car/trailer.
Had dinner in restaurant for first time and found simple menu more than adequate.
Free wifi would be an advantage

The rooms at the Magdala is exactly what you expect for four star accommodation. The rooms are basic but spacious and clean. I was impressed by the size of the bathroom and it natural light as they can often be small and dingy. On the downside, if the people in the next room were having a shower the hot water cut in and out.

The facilities are modern and up to date and the view over the lake with its ducks is pleasant to come home to in the afternoon although it appears to be struggling a little in the drought. The surrounds are quiet and the rooms are far enough from the highway to avoid any of the noise.

I didnt use the pool facilities or tennis court that were on offer but they appeared okay. My only serious issue at the Magdala was with the service in the restaurant. After waiting 1.5 hours, I was served raw chicken. As compensation, I was offered a free desert rather than a meal as the kitchen had closed. After declining the desert I still had to pay $20 (an $8 discount) because I had eaten some of the vegies.

In conclusion, Magdala is standard 4 star accommodation that I would reccommend but avoid the restaurant.
