“THE NEVER NEVER AGAIN MOTEL”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

We arrived after a 10 hour drive from Newcastle, NSW, happy to be starting our Great Ocean Road adventure we arrived at Surf City but if this was the norm we would have gone straight home !!!! The place was grubby our room had cigarette butts in an ash tray at the front door, the room was big but freezing 30 degrees on air con was about 21 I reakon and even though it had a toaster it had no cutlery plates or breadboard but the worst was NO HOT WATER !! The manager flicked a switch and said you should have hot water in an hour ....we didn't I don't think he cared he had hot water at home,,,so the next morning after an unpleasant sleep we had hot showers but I was worried I would come out dirtier than when I went in due to all the mould stuck in the shower door,, lucky for us we found a fantastic place down the road for a fabulous breakfast which renewed our spirits for our trip,,,we now rate every place in comparison to Surf City and a week into our trip it wins as the worst we have ever stayed in,,,,

Room Tip: DONT STAY !!! Choose another hotel,,,

We stayed here for my 50th birthday. Great location, walking distance to beach, restaurants and shops. Great for catching a sunset. The rooms had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Owners very friendly and accommodating.

Maybe we caught the owners out unawares, maybe they had things going on at the time beyond their control?
We called in as a late booking, 10 minutes notice, reduced rate ......
appreciated they could get us in.
But, heater not working and owners really not interested on reporting this
Kitchen and restaurant being refurbished at the time.
Room had been serviced but some basic essentials missing - cutlery.
Probably would have been better to have said sorry, we're not ready or we're full so we could have had a better experience somewhere else - availability was no problem elsewhere.
Nice location, good size room with spa, just maintenance and attitude as the problems.
If the owner would like to contact I would be happy to listen.

Room Tip: Buyer beware - look/inspect prior to purchase and test amenities

This was the 1st motel we found to stay in for the Great Ocean Road trip. Great location but disappointing accommodation. Old, out of date decor and over priced at $130 for queen room. Advantage of dining and drinks after a long travel. Meals over priced but value for money. Ordered breakfast for next morning but did not arrive. Would suggest to find others more welcoming. Not good first impression.

Room Tip: Look for another motel.

The hotel itself was quite spacious, and in quite a nice spot on the esplanade. There was a small hiccup when booking but overall I was pleasantly surprised. Lovely hosts and really laid back. Would return for sure, great value too.

Stayed at this motel with family in Jan 2014 and would never return. Motel in bad need of upgrade, air conditioning did not work, microwave did not work, swimming pool was green and unable to be used.
Couch in room was so bad they covered it with a blanket. Garden unkept. Overall only good side to this venue was the location, opposite the beach and about 2 minutes walk to restaurants. Would definitely not return and they charged highprices

Room Tip: Do not go to this motel unless you have no other options

Stayed here for the GVBR night, with partner and door. Prices were jacked up and we paid $191/room; one of the few that wasnt a 2 night stay. Bed was extremely uncomfortable and probably 15 years old to explain its bumps. Shower was mouldy and unsavoury.

And finally, in the morning we need some plates and bowls for breakfast. There as nobody around reception and after several attempts we go through on the phone. When we ask for a couple of plates and bowls we told "this a motel NOT a hotel and we don't supply planes to the rooms".

We were dumb founded, not were they suggesting they wouldn't help, they were implying we were stupid or difficult. Last we heard was that hotels provided room service with not plates, cutlery etc supplied in the room, while motels did no have room service, but as you could bring your own food they did either provided in the room or supply on request, plates and cutlery, etc.

Flabbergasted! With the price hike and lacking room quality the inadequate service only confirmed this was not somewhere we would recommend.
