“Great night's sleep”
Reviewed 27 July 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Balneaire unexpectedly for one night. What a great decision. The apartments are very comfortable, the beds great. We had such a great nights sleep.
Great location 2 minutes walk from the beach and nice cafes very close. We had breakfast at three anchors which is also highly recommend.

Thanks, glad you had a good night's rest and as you mentioned, great cafes close by and also the beach and boardwalk are an amazing attraction. Nestled at the base of Mt Adelaide, it is quiet and tranquil.

First of all we booked our stay and could not make that weekend as we hit a roo on the way down and balneaire allowed us to just move the booking to the following weekend.
The unit was spacious and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The gardens and plants around each unit was well maintained and fruit on a lot of the trees. We have stayed in quite a few different places in Albany and this one is the best so far we recommend and we would stay here when we are next in Albany

I wanted a nice place to stay for a week to wind down from work. There is not that much choice for 4-5 star accommodation in Albany. so this place was a real find.

I stayed at Unit 7, which has been recently refurbished with new bedroom, kitchen, dishwasher and bathroom fittings. These units are not hotel, rather, more like self contained service apartments. I was also told that they have different owners, but are managed by one company that runs the resort, so some of the units have better/worse fit outs than others. (also, you can ask for a specific unit if you know the one you want)

Anyway, Unit 7 where I stayed seemed seemed brand new. It had two upstairs bedrooms and one downstairs, and can accommodate 6 people - which was pretty wasted on my, being just there by myself. The two master bedrooms, one downstairs and the other upstairs, had wall mounted flat screen TV's, and there was also a large flatscreen TV in the main living area, along with a bluray player and ipod dock.

There is also a washing machine and dryer in a little utility area in the kitchen.

It can get pretty cold in Albany in the winter, so the slow combustion wood fire is inviting. I didn't use us, just used the reverse cycle air-conditioner to keep the rooms warm.

The bed was very comfortable and the linen and bath towels were fresh and new.

The kitchen had all the cutlery and utensils to do all your own cooking, and enough plates and glasses for six people. As well as proper wine glasses, which was a nice touch.

But the best thing about staying here was just the total relaxation. The units are a two minute stroll from Middleton beach - a beautiful, uncrowded, beach. At night the faint sound of the waves on the beach is all you can hear, that, along with the fresh sea air, is a perfect cure for insomnia.

Just across the road is a cafe, and gourmet deli and a Tapas bar. These serve delicious breakfasts, lunch and dinner, using ultra fresh local produce, as well as a selection of home made treats. The setting isn't fancy, but the food is as expertly prepared and fresh as any I have had. The tapas bar offers a selection of local wines by the glass - also well worth trying.

The whole place has a distinctive French - Giverny feel, probably by design, as there were several Monet prints hanging on the walls for the unit I had. Never the less, the gardens are well established and very pretty, also adding to the relaxing feel of the place.

Overall, just a really nice, relaxing place to stay, with all the things on hand that anyone needs. I will certainly be looking to come back, and bring my family with me, maybe for the next school holidays.

Room Tip: Ask for either the unit you want by number, or specify the facilities you want - eg dishwasher, tv i...

Thanks Steve for your detailed comments, hit the nail on the head, you left no stone unturned. There is no better place to wind down in Albany. Tranquility and privacy is an experience we promote here. We also enjoy interacting with guests who have the time to spare. We love to hear about their travel experiences.

Stayed in unit 7. Very well appointed, with reverse cycle a/c, tile fire, heated bathroom, new kitchen with new dishwasher and a nice touch of complimentary local fresh ground coffee for longer stays.
Two double bedrooms and third twin room, all with extra bedding. We had a fantastic stay in a great location and would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation to others.

The Senior Music students from Woodvale Secondary College toured the great southern during April this year. The boys and male staff stayed at the Balneaire Seaside Resort for the duration of the tour.
Very clean and relaxing the resort was perfect for our music tour, supplying large fully self contained units.
Located close to the town site all amenities and the beach, it was the ideal accommodation for our tour.

We stayed here in a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment with another couple. The location is excellent across the road from a lovely coffee shop/cafe with lovely coffees & a 2 minute walk to Middleton Beach. Its a townhouse with full cooking facilities, very clean, lovely gardens & a great little BBQ area which we used.
I would have no hesitation in staying here again.

Plus Points: Near the beach, in a quiet area with a five minute drive or thirty minute walk into town, decent walks in the local area, though not overly taxing if you are feeling a bit lazy! Reasonably equipped chalets with pretty much everything you need to cook with during your stay, big flat screen tv with freeview channels and that's about it really.

Minus Points: Reverse cycle air on not producing any heat (it was a cold and wet weekend) meaning the chalet had a damp feeling including the towels bedclothes etc, it also meant we could not dry our wet outdoor clothes.
Despite a warning that leaving dirty kitchen equipment dirty on departure would potentially attract a surcharge, our glasses and plates were all dirty anyway, I wonder if the previous occupants copped a fine? And why didn't the cleaners clean them?
Kitchen table filthy with grease smears and old food stains covering it. This also applied to the coffee table in the living area.
The fridge was just about clean with the freezer section needing defrosted.
The floor had not been cleaned with leaves everywhere.
The bedding was damp.
Old style counter-panes on top of the beds with sheets and a single blanket sandwiched between them. The counter-panes smelt faintly of sweat and BO.
Hasn't this "resort" heard of doonas?
My absolute pet hate of hair/s pubic and other types in the shower and shower area.

On departure we did mention the air con but the old man at reception was convinced that it was us who were not using it properly despite us having lived in some of the hottest countries in the world during our lives and using many different a/con units whilst there.

The last thing is the rip off cafes and shop that are situated outside the resort.

We live in Perth and are used to the ridiculous price that eating and drinking out costs, but make sure you shop before you arrive here since eating/shopping/drinking will leave you penniless if you purchase anything from these outlets.

Room Tip: We think the chalets on the opposite side of the road to reception would be best for a quieter exper...

Balneaire, Owner at Balneaire Seaside Resort, responded to this review, 19 April 2013
We at Balneaire always welcome helpful comments and suggestions. If contacted about any issue, the response is immediate. Apartments all have phones and quests need only to lift the handset and dial "9" to report any issue and receive an immediate response. No business can exist without legitimate complaints but it is how the issue is resolved that counts, if issues go unreported timeously, while the guest is still present, we cannot remedy the issue and most reasonable folk speak up pretty soon if things do not live up to their expectations or to their liking.

It is difficult to know who exactly the reviewer is since they don't give any indication. I do recall someone, on departure mentioning that the "Reverse Cycle" airconditioner wasn't working. Had they called or notified us, we'd have attended to it in minutes. No mention was made of any other issues, including the irrelevant ones relating to the expensive cafe's over which we have no control.

Regarding damp bedding, all our linen is laundered by a professional laundry, Zenith. Often sheets are still hot when they arrive hot off the ironing presses.

Leaves drop from the beautiful London Plane trees, which add to the Balneaire atmosphere, all the year around but more particularly in autumn. These can adhere to guests shoes and be carried inside. To say the floor was not clean does not tie up with the technique used by our cleaning staff who start from the kitchen area and work backwards until they reach the entrance and then lock the door, So not even their foot prints remain. While on the subject of the floor, is the reviewer referring to the pavers outside where there will ALWAYS be leaves?

There are different styles of bedmaking and some use doonas while other still use blankets and sheets. There are always additional blankets in the cupboards if needed. Yes we do plan to adopt the more modern trend in the near future.

On the question of the earlier comment regarding our small laminated sign requesting guests to "leave the kitchen in a tidy and clean state", this is standard proceedure with many motels who have large signs to make their statement, not the small one like we display. It is more of a reminder to try and co-operate than anything else. Yes, a penalty is mentioned as is the case with numerous places where I have stayed, but with MOST guests co-operating, this has never been applied. Often our staff find that guests wash the crockery etc. but pack them away wet and so the cleaning staff, always check and inspect the crockery before finishing the kitchen.

I happen to be the "old man" who has been here for 8 years now and we pride ourselves in prompt responses to any requests or suggestions. Often people ask us for assistance with the Reverse Cycle airconditioners and almost always the issue is regadrib the "mode selection" on the remote, as was found in this case. i.e. select "heat" or "cool" then temperature. I have driven many cars in my life, but sometimes I have needed someone to tell me how to remove the key or how to open the fuel cap in the more modern cars. I'm always willing to learn.

I'm sorry that the weekend was cold and wet, we certainly also prefer the warmer sunny days but we have no control over that.

For all our guests, the communication channels are always open.
