Stayed for 5 nights over the New Year 2013/14 period. Accompanied by wife, daughter and son-in-law, and two small grand-children. Saw in the New Year standing on the side of the bay, watching the fire-works from the town.
This is the perfect place for a family to stay - quiet and far from the noise of the modern world. We felt that the grand-children were safe to play, though they had to be supervised due to the bay being just a few meters from the cottages.
First, the location. It is about 2 miles (3 kilometers) west from Albany town, so a mode of transport is essential. The bay is right on the door-step, but it doesn't have a sandy beach. The water is very shallow, evidenced by a horse and rider who passed every afternoon about 100 meters from the shore, and only the lower legs of the horse were submerged. There is a cycle path passing between the cottages and the bay, and it is perfect for a walk along the shore.
The cottage had three good sized bedrooms, a lounge/dining/kitchen area, reasonably sized shower room, and W.C. It was fully furnished with all utensils necessary for a short stay (except for a bottle opener). There was also a BBQ right outside the front door which was to be shared between two cottages.
Can't remember about the middle bedroom (where the children bedded down), but the other two and the lounge had large flat-screen TVs.
There is also a laundry on the premises, and change for same can be obtained at the office.
Altogether a very enjoyable stay and I would really consider booking again.

Haven't got a clue what Rishu is on about ? Gorgeous modern stylish cottage ,two double bedrooms BOTH with flat screens , all mod cons,my favourite a or genus 'powder room area' and towel warmer ! Perfect as stayed there with 2 teenagers and was a treat to be able to do things while the bathroom was occupied.Gorgeous location t was like having a property where the back yard goes down to the Bay with a sunning nature trail along the Bay too. We met the owner who was very friendly and down to earth and very helpful with any queries about crabbing , attractions etc .Has Laundry and your own BBQ .Highly recommended for families as great location has playground area and the bay is just there .

Room Tip: Request Cottage 4 for Families :)

Over all the cottages are nice, being winter in albany the yards had been let go so the over all attraction of the properties was let down.
We found mould in bathroom and on blinds in Kitchen, dust on tops of curtains and on most higher surfaces. The heating was not the best on a really cold night and no real insulation in the main bedroom as the window area was cold a heavy curtain would have done that. No real check of previous occupants doings as we found that cultery had not been cleaned. Only three lounge chairs for a cottage with 4 beds... the unit was a disable unit and the shower room large but as far as getting a wheelchair or manoveing in the bedrooms they where small....
The bathroom was old, taps shower hoses needed replacing, water all over the floor after shower......
I could understand all of the above if it was not for the price of $180 a night. so not worth it!!!!

We recently visited Albany, WA in August 2013 and were recommended the water front villas as accommodation. The accommodation was perfect for the three adults and two children. A lovely self contained apartment with a generous amount of space. It was well equipped with several TVs and had ample facilities including two toilets which was great with 5 of us sharing. The cooking facilities were also excellent. My 11 yr old son loved the play ground at the back and the fact we were so closed to the bay. We were close to the main town and received a warm welcome by the owners. I would highly recommend the villas to anyone visiting the area.

Room Tip: There are multiple options for people to stay from couples to larger groups.

We booked 4 cottages at once for a family event last week - and all of us who stayed there thought the Lilacs were good value and a lovely location on the waterfront looking across to the town.
The kitchens were very well equipped, beds comfortable, couches also, great views from most of the cottages and lovely playground for the kids.
There is a beautiful waterfront walk/bike path right at the front of the cottages - if you are lucky enough to catch a really still time of the day - check out the fabulous reflections.
Some cottages have been refurbished and others are on the list to be done. The owners/managers were extremely helpful to us in our last minute need for 4 cottages for our family. The prices were reasonable and a discount was offered for each party. We looked elsewhere in Albany but the prices here seemed to be good value for money. Its true that some cottages are not brand new but we found them clean, well equipped with beautiful views. All in all a great choice for us backed up by excellent customer service from the owners. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for help on this when you call - or if in town go do an inspection they are welcome!

We were in villa 6 and found the level of facilities very good, (my wife rates places on the provision of a hair dryer), comfortable beds and furnishings, cooking utensils all there in good condition, didn't see any bugs.

The harbour out the back door has one of the best windsurfing speed runs in WA, there were 7 of us out there on Sat 16/3/13, 25 to 30kt winds with smooth water. 5 of us had best ever speeds.
We'll be back for sure.

Similar to other reviews. Bathroom needs a really good scrub. Mould on ceiling. Dodgy patch up jobs especially on the ceiling which i noticed whilst trying to squash the squillion mozzies. the fridge in one unit had more lean on it than the leaning tower of pisa giving an indication of the handiwork when building the unit. Very dusty on walls .... Surely these could be cleaned once in a while? Probably should be paying less than $100 per nite.

Management response:Responded 25 February 2013

Dear Returning and future guests,
As owner/operators of our beautiful waterfront accommodation property since 2001, we thank you are valued supporters for your past and continued patronage.
We have grown to love the Lilac and have greatly enjoyed accommodating our many happy and satisfied customers.
We have spent a lot of energy and money on the refurbishment and continual improvement of our rooms and fascilities. Still, it must be disappointing to arrive and be confronted with "aubergine" colours and a 1973 playground (how do you date a playground?) or yet be faced with a non-working fridge (oh, did someone forget to mention that "Fridge & Washer City" delivered a new fridge that day as a response to that concern??)
All our visitors at the Lilacs can be assured of that level of service - nothing is too much trouble.
We do appreciate, the comments, however about Cottage 4 and the Cottage 10 bathorroms they will both be on the receiving end of a major renovation in the very near future.
Meantime, we shall continue to strive to deliver excellent, value for your dollar in terms of comfort and quality of stay when staying with us at the Lilacs. We consided it a privilage to own this property and to have you as our guests.
