We have just returned from our 2nd stay at Hebe Cottage and enjoyed it every bit as much as the first visit.
Life for all of us is hectic in one way or another and it's nice to have somewhere to go that provides an actual escape, won't break the bank and won't disappoint.
The property is set back from the road and is nestled behind a garden setting that is nothing short of enchanted. If you love birds (or even have a mild appreciation of them) you will love Hebe. We saw everything from Bronzwings, wrens, a variety of parrots and various other local birdlife throughout our stay. There are a couple of bird feeders right outside the master bedroom and 2nd bedroom window and it's lovely to sit in bed with your morning coffee and see who comes to visit. If you're lucky, there's a curious little Splendid Wren who, rather than sample the wares in the feeder - would rather sit on the window sill and peer in to see what's going on inside the cottage. He paid us half a dozen visits throughout our two day stay and gave us no end of smiles.
Everything is taken care of - there's milk in the fridge (real milk - actual REAL milk, and 2 litres of it!), a few farm-laid fresh eggs, tea, coffee and other thoughtful inclusions as well. There are even a couple of Lindt chocolates sitting in the fridge waiting to be enjoyed..... Not to mention the huge of loaf of fresh baked bread sitting on a cutting board, complete with bread knife. The owner very thoughtfully makes a loaf in advance of your stay according to your preference.
The kitchen has all modern, quality and very clean appliances as well as cutlery, crockery, cookware and glassware.
The linen is fresh (the owner actually told us she even washes the mattress and pillow protectors between every set of guests), the towels are soft and plentiful.
The fire is ready to be used when you arrive and enough wood for your stay is supplied. It heats the lounge room really well. There is a great assortment of DVDs, books and travel literature as well as pamphlets for a few choice local eateries.
The place is quiet and absolutely SPOTLESS. We travel every 3 months and this is the cleanest place we've stayed.
The magical Oyster Harbour is only a few minutes walk from the cottage and is something you should try and set the time aside to see. It's a very scenic and calming place to spend half an hour or more.
All I can say is don't be suspicious of the low price. The property is not the most modern or opulent place in the world (it's a cottage and what you see in the pictures is what you get) it is simply cozy, homely, clean and very welcoming.
I would like to add that many of the places we have stayed, are charging ridiculous prices for what you actually receive in the way of accommodation, location and cleanliness. This is not the case with Hebe. The owner is very realistic (possibly leaning toward the generous side) with the price and you won't be disappointed.
We'll be back.
