Booked over the internet, rooms looked great but when I arrived was given a room that had not been upgraded since the 70's. Was told that I needed to request an executive room to get the ones that had been refurbished. (they did move me for an additional charge).

When I arrived I was told that the restaurant was full for the evening (4.30pm check in). Went and spoke to the restaurant manager to see if they could squeeze me in early, say 6.00pm and was told no. Could not even eat at the bar. They suggested I order room service instead, which had a $5.00 surcharge. Average cost of a meal is $40-45, so to suggest that someone pay that type of money to eat in their room is insulting. Especially having driven 5 hours to get there from Perth.

I would only stay here again as a last resort. They clearly don't know how to treat customers who are paying top dollar for a room. Very disappointed.

Room Tip: Make sure you book an executive room, otherwise you will be disappointed.

Stayed here as part of a group for 2 nights. Rooms were large, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was also very spacious and clean. The location of the motel is great - just a short walk across the road to the shopping centre. We had our meals here in an adjacent area to the main restaurant. Our meals were set out buffet style in another room which made it easy for us to help ourselves. The food was good and plentiful. I did however feel the staff in the bar area were not overly friendly towards not only our group but also other diners in the main restaurant area. Some of them seemed like they really didnt want to be there. The housekeeping staff however were very friendly and obliging. Would recommend the motel as it is convenient to shopping and there is a laundromat across the road.

Dog Rock Motel is a great place to stay whilst in Albany. We stayed for a couple of nights in a twin room and were very happy with the comfort and decor. Spacious rooms with very tasteful artwork, comfy beds and upgraded bathrooms which were clean and modern.

The motel is in a great location at the top of the CBD and close to the majority of the shops. The motel is easy to access and close to the road to Perth as well as the port and Middleton's beach is a very short drive further East.

The restaurant was booked out for the two nights that we were there (which is indicative of its popularlty) however we had breakfast in the resaurant and it had a fantastic ambiance and has won a number of awards.

This was my first visit to Albany and the Dog Rock Motel.I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the room was. The staff seemed very courteous and it was a very good experience overall.
The food at Lime 303 was quite good too.

The exterior of this hotel may not look like much, but the rooms inside are a lovely surprise. They've all been recently refurbished, so they're newly painted and quite modern. Beds are extremely comfortable and rooms are spacious. The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the centre of Albany, and the top-floor rooms have great views. Slightly pricey for the area, but definitely a great place to stay.

Australia is a long way from anywhere. Albany in the far south of the state of Western Australia is even further still. So if you are going to make all the effort to get there, upon arrival, you want to ensure that the place you stay is up to standard. Right?

There are unfortunately outside the capital city of Perth (and sometimes within it), some real “dogs” of places, who despite displaying the word: “hotel” outside their respective properties, should in all honesty be (in a selection of languages) displaying the word: “dump” please, “come and waste your hard-earned cash here.”

Happily for the weary country traveller, the, Dog Rock motel Albany isn’t one of them.

I was on business recently and spent two nights at the motel. First thing to note, is the use of the word “motel” not “hotel” there’s a big difference, both in expectations and quality. In a motel you shouldn’t be overly surprized if you’re not surrounded by the latest’s in fancy in-room gadgets, or that the bedding was last seen in a 1970’s brides “glory-box.” That is after all what you are paying for. Anything calling itself a “hotel’ should be the diametric opposite of this.

The Dog Rock has its share of 1970 glory-box accoutrements. The room was large, yet lacked a certain symmetry of completion. That said, there was a note from the motel management in my room confirming that the motel was undergoing a stage upgrade. So in-room equilibrium should be restored shortly. There was also an annoying lack of power points in the room. The bathroom was functional and the bed comfortable. But where the motel morphed from “motel” to “hotel” was its restaurant “Lime 303.”

I dined there on both nights and it was fantastic. The Thai prawn soup could have been direct from Phi Phi Island, the pork belly from the best hawkers hut in Hong Kong, and the desert- well from another world. Expensive?

Like so much in life, the answer to this question is one of personal taste and opinion. If at the end of the day you want a meal in a lovely dining space, prepared and served by a group of individuals who really know what they are about then the answer is no. If on the other hand you expect all of the above and expect to pay only Subway prices then you may consider it expensive.

The dining experience is only let down at the Dog Rock by the breakfast service. Again it’s in the same place. But this time, its mishmash of lukewarm bain marie items. Whereas, a tight a la carte menu, would really round-out the gourmet country experience. I ate breakfast only once here for that reason.

That said, the Dog Rock leads the pack in country accommodation, hostility and food services.

You’d be barking mad to stay anywhere else in Albany.
