“One of the better stays”
Reviewed 15 March 2012

In a nutshell, I shelled out lots of money to be here, but was it worth it?

The answer is probably, "Yes....and may be no."

My Aqua experience began with a really friendly and helpful service on the phone. I was on a mission to impress my wife and just escape; the two of us. I asked for special things to be done, and they were.

Being the crap male who can't organise anything, I took one lead from a well-placed friend and the odd Google dalliance, and hey presto, Aqua was the final outcome.

Aqua was so new, that even with Trip Advisor I was left shooting in the dark and rolling dice. And this is what I found.

The Aqua Resort is a somewhat secret and expensive haven wedged on "Busso Highway" between more established and better-known room farms (I mean hotels....if you want to call them that).

Not a lot tells you how to get there, or when to turn into its front gates, unless you have a very active GPS that speaks to you and you are crawling at 20 kmph. Even then, you probably have to hit the anchors some 50 metres after you pass the entrance and end up in one of those religious getaway sanctions nearby.

The first thing that really impressed me about Aqua Resort is that you have this meandering, snake-like driveway that leads from the highway to the sea, off which all their self-contained cottages dot the route in carefully planned clusters. I felt that the developers really cared about the flora and fauna before they built the place, keeping the mature gum trees where possible and then brilliantly landscaping and in-filling the space there after with native plants.

My cottage (I believe it was number 21) was really open, bright and probably too much for a couple, but the space was modern and 'wow' and very well thought out. Neutral grey cupboards, white bench tops, all the mod cons you'd ever need for a night or a week. Clever. Small back garden secluded and peaceful.

It felt very private at all times despite the big windows and the seclusion was really refreshing. However, a tiny flaw and I mean a tiny one, is in the actual construction. The walls and floors are all built with and framed by metal beams and girders which look amazing. Annoyingly, this means that everything is somewhat suspended and every step you make echoes throughout the building, especially in the morning, when you don't to wake up the wife, kids or guests. Again, this is a minor defect but something that might grate me with a house full of "terrorists/kids" running amok!

The infinity pool is wonderful and I could see the chairs being taken and snagged in peak season, so you may have to plan ahead to get a seat.

I wanted to use the gym and didn't really want to walk up the driveway to get a key. I think guests should have a coded room pass to access the gym without going to the front desk to ask for entry. But these are teething problems.

And would I recommend Aqua. Yes. I was itching to give it 5 stars, but if you are going to charge the money that they do, you have to deliver a 5 star product. I like to pay for quality but hate going to places where they charge you for everything. They have a tennis court that I may have used, but I resent having to rent a racket and tennis ball. Don't they want you to come back and say, "Wow, this is such a great facility." I never once saw someone play a game there. I was almost frightened to turn on the tap in case that cost me extra!

Same with the internet. Do people really need to charge guests to use the internet in this day and age? This is an executive place, not your average kid-friendly resort. If the 'boss' is going to pay, give him a few perks. They do in other places in the area and it will probably cost the resort business.

That being said, I am planning to return. In my view, this is the perfect place for a large family or group of friends. The beach is so close thet you can nearly hear the waves. And being self-contained cottages, there is mileage to be gained.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your glowing reveiw. I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Aqua Resort and that we delivered your required outcome of a relaxing peaceful escape for two.

In regards to the gymnasium, it is kept locked as a safety precaution. In the past we have had unsupervised children injure themselves when playing on the equipment.

Your constructive comments in regards to signage, tennis court hire, and wireless fee will be taken been into account and assessed.

We look forward to assisting you again on your next visit.

Great location, only short walk to beach. Waterfront is suitable for families, very calm waters and a clean beach.
Houses have all mod cons and as its relatively new all in good condition. (everything worked)
Plunge pool wasn't heated as described, weather was good so no real issue.
Recommended and will be back.

Room Tip: Ask to be situated away from 'Abbey Resort' side, lots of noise at night.

Your responses are appreciated and very encouraging. As a relatively new resort (14 months) management is delighted with how the resort has been recieved by the public with numerous guests returning and making referrals to friends and families. As well as being the accommodation of choice for celebrity stays. That said we are very mindful of areas that require attention and are working on these, such as additional blinds for the bedrooms to shut out light and are pleased to advise these are to be installed within the next week or two.

What a fantastic resort in Busselton.

We stayed in a Grove 1 Bedroom Cottage which was pretty much new and full of high end furnishings and appliances. The en-suite bathroom was a little on the small side but had a tub and separate shower and two sinks. The bedroom was well appointed and the bed comfortable. Our cottage also had a laundry, separate wash-room, kitchen and lounge/dining area, an alfresco area and yard and a BBQ. Everything was spotlessly clean.

The only issues we had was that there was no blinds for some of the windows in the bedroom so we were woken up quite early in the morning by the light. Also be aware that reception closes at 5pm which seems a bit odd especially on the weekend when most people will be driving down after work.

Oh and don't worry about the locked unused rooms in the cottages, they aren't adjoining cottages and there aren't people in them!

Still just a great resort in a great location.

We had a wonderful stay at the Aqua Resort in Busselton. Beautiful houses with great interior and complete equipment. Great BBQ Area und a nice garden to relax in- we just missed the sunbeds. The staff was friendly, just a few more amenities would be helpful.
Only meters from the sea for a perfekt relaxing holiday.

We stayed for two nights in a self contained house with its own pool. The furnishings and facilities are exceptional. Try and ask for a room on the left hand side of the resort closer to the beach. These are more private.
The beds were a little hard however the linen etc was impeccable.
We used the facilities including the BBQ. Make sure you have your own supplies to clean this as you are required to do this before you leave. They don't service the rooms however do attend to the private pools daily. Sometimes early so cover up!!
Reception staff were pleasant however could have been more attentive and showed more interest in our stay.
Small things so overall great place and would definately recommend and return here.

We had not been to Busselton/Margaret River for 3 years. Previously we went twice a year for over 10 years. We normally stay at 5 star accommodation next door, but it is tired and we thought we would try the new place.

The place was built on the site of an old caravan park. The design of the new units has included keeping the Peppermint trees. The gardens of the units and the common areas are very well kept.

We stayed in a Grove Room near the rear of the property, closer to the beach. It appears that with couples they place you in multi bedroom units and seal off the extra bedrooms and bathrooms. They leave the king size bedroom open for the guests, it has an ensuite with free standing bath, shower, toilet and twin basins.

As a result of this the kitchen and living areas are larger than you would get if they had single room options.

All the windows are double glazed. There are numerous deck areas and a barbeque for each unit.

The air conditioners are superb and can handle the open areas and their are gas fires for the colder months.

The quality of the fit out is excellent. They have not used cheap appliances or tiling and surfaces. European cooking appliances and refrigerator, dish washer, washing machine and dryers. The kitchen laundry and bathrooms have stone bench tops.

The furniture is modern and comfortable.

The cooking utensils and pans are also reputable brands. Crockery and glassware are plentiful.

So what are the small faults?

Nearly all the door handles were loose. (not the cupboard doors)

Being a couple staying for 4 nights, 1 towel each is not enough. We would shower 2 or 3 times a day after swimming or prior to going out. Also the toiletries were not enough either, they did say that more could be purchased from reception, but for me you either supply them or you do not. I have stayed all over the world in places less expensive and more expensive and they all supplied shower/bath gel adequate for the stay.

There were several large scratches on the wooden floors, obviously made by the furniture legs. These could have been avoided by simply attaching felt to the feet of the furniture.

All the opening windows/doors have fly screens except for the louvred windows.

We will definately be staying there on our next trip in about 4 months and again next year.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the beach, it is further from the road and quieter.
