“Great sense of community”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

This place was my second stop on my adventure and I honestly loved it here, I only stayed for one night as I was moving on the next day, the staff were so friendly and welcoming from the second we walked in, the accommodation is set into little apartments with 2 rooms and 5 beds in each room, our apartment had a kitchen, bathroom and tv. In the evening most people sat downstairs together which gave a nice community spirit. I found this place quite relaxing, only jibe is that the hot water is turned off during the day and night coming on at 5 and going off again at 10 both morning and night. There is also a shuttle to and from the local bus station which is great.

Kept telling yourself you're an eco friendly chilled out place by sticking up notices everywhere and you might believe what you're saying. This place thinks it is so cool and supposedly prides itself on not being a party hostel. Not true, none of the rules are adhered to or enforced, so people stay up late drinking and making so much noise.the staff are there for the easy life and are miserable and unfriendly and don't really care about your stay. Anyone can just walk in or out of your 'apartment', and do so at all hours. The dorm rooms are tiny (2 bunk beds and no space for anything else) and lack ventilation. Good luck if you're sharing an apartment with Europeans that don't smile and Brits that just wanna drink!

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention. We apologise for the fact that you had a less than enjoyable experience at our hostel. We can assure you that none of the staff that were working here during your stay are here any longer. Loud noise and heave drinking is not tolerated after 10PM, as we are in a residential neighbourhood. When problems and concerns like these arise, we can only hope that guests would bring them to managements attention so they can be addressed immediately.

The reason we thought it would be great:
1. Right by sunshine beach and yet still near enough to the rest of Noosa to be accessible.
2. Labelled itself as a "relaxed" place to stay, as opposed to the more party hostels. This was reinforced by the rules on noise and drinking.
3. The layout looked great; a nice communal area and separate kitchens and bathrooms for ever two dorms of 5.

Why I've given it such a low rating:
1. Cockroaches in our bed or maybe the linen we were given. Tried clearing them out before we went to sleep, but others appeared while we were sleeping. - I suspect this maybe a side effect of having kitchens right next to each sleeping area.
2. Having staff cleaning up your kitchen at 7:30 in the morning is definitely not relaxing. Especially when they're banging around with recycling and pans etc, with no care that people are sleeping. You expect this kind of thing from other backpackers, but not from the staff of a "relaxed" hostel.
3. 1 self contained shower/toilet/sink area for 10 people is not good. The morning when everyone was leaving meant getting in quick or queuing and hoping you could get in before you had to checkout.
4. The most annoying thing, however, was there policy on leaving bags. Dolphins charge $5 per bag to leave them against a wall. It is common practice among backpackers to need to leave bags with varying bus times, but never before in any hotel, hostel or any accommodation have I been asked to pay for the privilege. Even to stay on the premises after 9:30 was $5! Fortunately Peter Pans by the bus station were more than happy to look after our bags, in a secure room, for no charge.

Each of these things I think could be easily have been sorted and I would have happily have given this place 4* if they hadn't been problems, but added up all together they didn't leave us with the kind of stay we were hoping for.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, get your own private room. We stayed in a dorm and a double and the double was...

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention. We apologise for the fact that you had a less than enjoyable experience at our hostel. As for the cleaning at 7:30 am, reception doesn't open until 8 am so that was probably more likely the time you heard noise in the kitchens. We have to clean 8 kitchens and change all the beds for check ins arriving at 10 am so we start right when we open. Sorry to hear that there was so much noise but we can only be so quiet putting away pots and pans left to dry over night from dinner. We can only hope that when concerns like these arise, the guests come and bring them to managements attention so we can address them and come to a solution.

i am currently writing this review whilst i am in bed in the hostel. it is 8:10am and the cleaners and banging around outside in the kitchen and have woken everyone up (they do this every morning) dolphin prides itself on being 'eco freindly' which is a bunch of balls. the hot water gets turned off inbetween 10am and 5pm so you cant have a shower or a wash after these times. (pointless for travelers who get up late from a hangover) and then when the water gets turned back on, uh oh...its a fight to the bathroom because ytou share it with 9 other people! the rooms are tiny, tripping over peoples bags on the floor as there is no space to put them anywhere. yes there are shuttle busses to the town and beach, but the last bus to the main beach town is at 4:50pm, so if you want to go down there later, for dinner for example you have to make your own way down. i defiantly would not stay here again.

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention. We apologise for the fact that you had a less than enjoyable experience at our hostel. Reception opens at 8 am and that only gives us two hours to clean 8 kitchens and change all the bedding for new check ins. We try to be as quiet as possible, but can only do so much when there are pots and pans to put away that were left to dry over night. As for shuttle times, it is just a courtesy shuttle built around the Greyhound and Premier bus times. For people that would like to go in and out of town in the evenings, there are local bus times and taxi numbers posted at reception, and staff would be happy to help you sort something out.

This is a very chilled out place (signs up saying no drinking after 8pm and no noise after 10pm), free wifi which works well and a lot of other useful things available. However, i got woken up throughout the night quite a lot. There was a lot of noise coming from the area outside, which i assume was a load of drunk people..this went on til about 4am. Clearly the signs which say no drinking and noise are ignored by some and there's so staff around to tell people to keep it down. Apart from that i enjoyed my stay very much

I stayed in a private double room with my girlfriend. The room (with own shower, tv, toilet and airco) was really cute and clean. Great balcony in the front. Nice cooking area, that's seperated from the dorms. A bit far from the centre (Noosa Heads), but the hostel runs a shuttle bus a few times a day.

I love this place. After a 16-hour bus journey, it's the perfect place to chill. The free shuttle from the coach drop-off makes it all so much easier, the staff are friendly and have good local knowledge, and there is plenty of garden furnature to sit out in the sun - making it far too easy not to leave the site!

Walls are painted bright pink and there are lots of elephant and Buddha monuments, along with pictures of the owner's travels. It's only a short walk (in bare feet) to the shops and local beach, and apparently there's a great 3-hour walk through the national park to the main beach (or you can just get the hourly free shuttle).
