“Did not meet expectations”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

My husband and I stayed at Culgoa in early March with my mother and our daughter. After doing my own research I instructed my travel agent to book a two bedroom premium beachfront unit, she received one quote and at no stage was she asked if we wanted ground or level one with a price difference, so we were disappointed when we arrived to find we were on the first level (the extra amount we would have had to pay for ground floor was not an issue). On the website it is not obvious that the rooms have different rates (from the photos I had incorrectly assumed they were two storied units and I would have thought that two quotes (ground floor and first level) would have been given to our agent, so we could make the choice ourselves. We were unable to move to a ground floor unit as they were all booked by regulars for later in the week (however several units remained empty the entire week we were there I am guessing they were units unavailable to be rented out by management)
- There is an after-hours check in procedure that we were not advised about, surely when a travel agent books, the resort should advise them of this so they in turn can notify their clients?
- Given that it is a unit that sleeps 4 people the deck is not big enough for everyone to sit at the table and dine outside together if you don't feel like lugging your meal down the stairs.
- The air conditioner was situated over the kitchen sink at the back of the unit so was totally ineffective in cooling the bedrooms.
- In the room info kit it was stated that the rooms are not serviced (sheet and towel change after seven nights) but our sheets were changed after four nights so not sure what the policy is (actually my mothers bed was not changed the sheets were left on top of the bed because, I assume, she had left a sweatshirt on the end of the bed).
- I think to supply only one towel per person for a week is a little stingy, yes we laundered them ourselves but was a hassle, with only one towel each.
- It would have been good to know we had to purchase all cleaning and laundry equipment prior as well, only small one use packs are provided and not replenished.
- I can't understand why a paddle board is $25.00 per hour, we had planned to paddle board each day but for $100.00 for an hour for the four of us, we only did it once. As a side we hired a boat for 4 hours (from a company up the river) with gas and a BBQ included for $180.00 which is an interesting price comparison.
- Yes the views are wonderful, great location, immaculate grounds and BBQs as in all other reviews but to me Culgoa should advertise itself as unserviced apartments not a resort.

Hello graciergirl0509,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your recent stay at Culgoa Point. I apologise certain aspects of the stay were not up to your expectations. Our website does comprehensively explain how our property runs and all of the different room types we have on offer. The travel agent you booked through did not contact us for a quote, as they have allotments and all our rates already. Had a ground floor apartment been specifically requested we would have most certainly provided one if there was availability.
The agent you booked through does have our reception opening hours along with all other information about our resort. Unfortunately we were not provided with your contact details or an estimated time of arrival to be able to provide you with late arrival procedures. Our onsite management are always available to help guests outside of Reception hours.
Our apartments are serviced when guests stay 7 nights or more and the service is in the middle of their stay, we change all linen and do a brief clean of the apartment. As our apartments are fully self contained and we are classified under the self-catering category, linen is not changed daily and we supply a starter pack of toiletries, detergents etc. Additional supplies can be purchased from Reception.
I apologise your stay with us was not up to your expectations, perhaps speaking with us directly next time will provide you with all the information you require about our resort and facilities. Thank you for your feedback and we do hope to welcome you back again one day, perhaps to one of our ground floor apartments.
Kind Regards,
Emily Heap

We have stayed here three times over the past couple of years always staying in unit 6 decor bright and very modern. Ground floor apartment on the quieter side of the resort. It is lovely to step onto the grass. The glass sliding doors open onto patio complete with an outdoor setting. Great spot for relaxing late breakfast. The ducks waddle up to see us. Unit 6 is Overlooking the lagoon. My husband does an occasional spot of fishing off the little pier just outside front of unit. Minimal passing foot traffic. Very close proximity to the pool and outdoor spa which is heated. Unfortunately our stays are never long enough.

Stayed here for a weekend for our wedding anniversary. Room was on the second floor overlooking the river. The unit itself was clean and had a nice atmosphere and view. The staff were welcoming and the facilities very good. Lovely gardens and beach area and close enough to walk into Hastings Street. Would stay again.

2nd trip to Culgoa and again found everything terrific. The room we stayed in was great and the view was awesome. Away from Hastings Street, it's a quiet location next to the river, staff are friendly and helpful. Sitting on the river fishing away not worried if you catch anything or not, simply relaxing!

We have been coming to Culgoa Point every year for the last 9 years and usually staying in unit 22 on the ground floor. The outlook is to die for beautiful river, stunning sunsets & BBQ at the front door overlooking the river.
However the unit is looking very tired, the only thing that has changed in 9 years is probably a new lounge & t.v.
Don't come to this unit if you expect to sleep, the bed in the main bedroom is like concrete, we have given feedback on several occasions but this has been ignored. It is so old it should have been replaced years ago. We will be looking elsewhere next holiday.

Hello Rhonda D,
Thank you for leaving a review and your feedback on apartment 22, which will be passed onto the owners of the unit. Culgoa Point is an older resort and apartments here are individually owned, which means there are different levels of renovation. Our premium apartments are the more recently renovated and more modern apartments, which perhaps would be more to your taste. We would love to have you back again to try one of our premium apartments, some of which are located on the ground floor, which is one of the most popular locations.
Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to see you at Culgoa Point again in the future.
Kind Regards,
Emily Heap

We have been coming here several times a year for the past 20 years. Culgoa Point Resort is situated on the Noosa Sound and has views in all directions. Sunsets are magnificent every day. It is so relaxing to sit and watch the sun go down with a beverage of your choice from one of the seating areas along the beachfront or from your own chair at the front of your unit.
The resort itself is well appointed for a family or couples vacation.

The pool area is almost perfect... the pool is beautifully clean and generally protected from any wind and provides plenty of lounges. The water in the pool and spa is outstanding in clarity and temperature. There is a small tennis court, bikes, watercraft and a shop for essentials like fishing rods and toilet paper. Within a 5 minute walk there a several restaurants, convenience store and bottle shop. If you feel the need for retail therapy there are the Hastings Street and Noosaville shopping districts nearby.

Easy access to the water lets you swim or fish from the resort surrounds.

I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from it all and relax.

Room Tip: Ground floor beachfront are my favourites but if you have toddlers you may prefer level 1 where the...

What a top spot!! Right on the corner of the River with its own private beach. This place is clean & maintained really well & very handy to restaurants etc. Most rooms look straight west down the lovely Noosa River & have the most spectacular sunset veiws. Highly recommend!
