“Amazing Honeymoon Location”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

John communicated with the staff extensively prior to arrival in order to ensure our honeymoon stay would be absolutely fabulous. They were extremely helpful in setting up a surprise floral arrangement, fruit and champagne delivery, as well as special turn-down service in our suite with a private balcony. Upon arrival, I (Alicia) received the roses, while the fruit and champagne was waiting for us in our room, and the sheets were specially arranged. Our suite had a private balcony and a jet spa bathtub. We thoroughly enjoyed our room as it had the ease, comfort, and luxury of a private suite with a nice area for clothes and traveling gear. Every single meal we had at Hotel Olimpico was fabulous and on point. We often think of the courses there and cannot wait to experience such cuisine again. We were astounded by the freshness and flavour of every meal. All of the staff from concierge, to bar, to wait, to cleaning staff, were so friendly and willing to help with anything we needed. The driver was always on time to pick us up from a day destination to Capri and Pompeii and to have us back in time for dinner. We enjoyed our conversations with all of the staff and were and still are, so appreciative of all of the help they gave us on our honeymoon. They helped ensure that the honeymoon went smoothly, felt absolutely romantic, and wonderfully fun. Although some time has passed since our honeymoon, we think of Hotel Olimpico often and could not go without writing this very well-deserved and earned review. We cannot wait to go back to Hotel Olimpico!!! We miss it and the people so very much! One of the links below will not allow us to select the time we were there, which was June-July 2012-which just goes to show, if we had to write a review even this long after, how truly wonderful this place is!!!!

Room Tip: I definitely recommend a suite for those wanting a romantic stay. When we go back we are hoping to...

I have stayed in this hotel twice on business trips during the winter. Even though it was really quiet and most of the facilities were closed, I found the staff consistently friendly and helpful. The restaurant is not open for dinner out of season, but the one across the road had an adequate menu at a good price. The beach is a bit bleak in the winter, but the views across the bay are fantastic!

I took a walk around the grounds and could just imagine how pleasant the place would be in season, with the pool full and families having fun.

Dear Niallkc56,
Thank you for your beautiful review of our resort.

You are in fact correct that during high season, from April 1st onward, we have a full house with families, couples and even singles, enjoying our facilities and running about the grounds. The area comes to life during season with all sorts of restaurants and activities open at our resort and in all the surrounding area.
Our own superb restaurant is naturally at your disposal during this time. We thank you again for your review and hope to see you during high season when you can enjoy all the amenities our resort has to offer.

We just returned from our first trip to Italy and had begun our journey at hotel Olimpico. We enjoyed our stay there and were extremely impressed with all of their staff. Gaetano was patient and helpful, as the hotel manager, when we needed to make changes to our reservations multiple times, including the day before our arrival. Antonio and Pietro, both working in the dining room, were absolutely fantastic and were instrumental in making our stay feel very personal and special. Indeed, the whole staff was professional, friendly and very helpful.
The hotel itself has nice and very clean rooms, the view from all balconies are beautiful and the beach across the street was fantastic, especially since we were almost completely alone there, being late October. The weather was very warm though and so we enjoyed swimming and walking on the beach. The pool and other facilities are very well maintained and the restaurant was great, with very well prepared food at very decent prices. The breakfast, which was included, was the best we had during our whole trip. Each day had a slightly different offering of hot dishes, fresh fruit and vegetables, and of course every day offered fresh pastries and crepes which were absolutely delicious.
The location is a bit out of the town of Salerno, which can actually be more relaxing. The properties around are not all well maintained but the Olimpico itself was wonderful. If you are looking to visit such sites as Pompeii, Paestum, Herculaneum and Salerno, we highly recommend staying there and renting a car or using their shuttle service and public transit. Coming home to a relaxing place in the evening was priceless, and we missed this feeling in our other hotels. Should we go back to Italy, we will surely go back to the Olimpico!

We stayed at the Olimpico in May 2009 and returned this October for a much needed break. I'm a very demanding customer but I can't speak highly enough about this hotel. The staff are excellent, always friendly and helpful, and all the front of house and waiting staff speak English. They're clearly a team who've worked together for a while and really enjoy working at the hotel. Gaetano was very helpful and patient with our changes of mind about whether we needed collecting from the airport or not, and nothing was too much trouble - this is a hotel which really knows how to look after its guests. When we stayed four years ago the restaurant wasn't the best aspect of the hotel but it has got substantially better and is now excellent. I think we only had one evening meal that we didn't think was excellent. Breakfast is fantastic - either hot food like bacon, sausages, scrambled egg, or yoghurt, mozzarella, toast, pastries and cakes, fresh fruit, crepes etc. I defy anyone not to find something in the breakfast buffet that they'd like to eat. I will need to go on a diet now I'm back home :-) The pool is very well maintained and the children's play area, table tennis, tennis court, boules and garden were also very well kept and made for pleasant surroundings. The area the hotel is in varies - some parts are very run down, but this hotel is a true oasis. Don't be put off by the surrounding area - this hotel is a little gem, excellent value for money, close to the Amalfi Coast (you can see it from the balconies at the front of the hotel and there's a great view of the mountains inland from the rooms at the back), and an excellent base to explore both that coastline and places like Paestum to the south and Herculaneum, Pompeii etc to the north. Salerno is also a nice place to wander around and if you go at the right time of day it should only take 10-15 minutes to get there. We hope to go back to the Olimpico next year and thank all the staff for making our holiday so very enjoyable. The Warner family.

We had a very nice time at this resort. The rooms are excellent for the price plus each one has a nice balcony. A/C works, bathroom is super clean and towels are abundant. The restaurant is excellent! Try their 7 euro buffet! What a deal! The breakfast is also excellent as well as the staff at this resort could not be nicer! They were so helpful. Book the free shuttle well in advance(morning for that day) and it will be prompt. I recommend this place to families and couples.

Room Tip: Do eat at the restaurant. It is excellent!

As a couple on a road trip, this was sufficient enough of a place for us to stay at. We were headed back to Rome from Sicily and chose to stay here since we knew we would not leave the island until at least noon. It would be a long drive. We really needed a place to just rest, grab some dinner, and leave for Rome early in the morning. Sadly, the location did not provide for ease of getting anything to eat via walking. We had to drive to another part of Salerno... but the saving grace is the pizzaria we found about a 10 minute drive away called PULECENELLA. It made up for the entire trip to Salerno.

As others have stated, this is in a not so posh area of Salerno and sadly there are no restaurants near by via walking distance. Across the street you will find a beach, which I did not go to, but you are that close should you stay here. I imagine if you are a family on a budget, this would be an ideal place to stay. It is child friendly with a nice pool and jungle gym for the kids to play on. They also offer a shuttle bus to Sorrento and other areas of the Amalfi coast.

The breakfast was down right awful. I couldn't even eat anything. They definitely cater to the American crowds here because they had real bacon and even soggy pizza for breakfast albeit not "in a good way." I tried a bite here and there but decided to suck it up and go hungry until I got to Rome.

So for us, it was great for a stop over place. It's cheap enough. But if I could do it all over again, I would have powered through to Rome and relaxed there. I am still baffled how this is the top rated hotel in this city. This was our least favorite hotel on our two week road trip through southern Italy.

Also, just a tip, if you go to Capri, the Salerno to Capri ferry is a few hours long and only departs once a day. If you go to Sorrento,

Room Tip: Just get a cheap room, you won't spend any time in it

Dear Guest

We apologise that we did not leave a good impression on you. The fact you stayed only one night may be part of the reason we were unable to leave our typical impression on you.

We are aware that in late October many restaurants in the vicinity are closed and this too may have left you with a less than average impression. If you read through our reviews you will see that most everyone who stays, especially during season, has nothing but the best to say about our resort.

Our breakfast is generally appreciated by all with your choice of crepes and omelettes made right in front of you as well as fresh fruits, pizza, sausage, bacon and many other delicacies.

Thank you for the compliments on our pool and gardens and also our free shuttle service to the ships to Amalfi, Positano and Capri. As you know the shuttle is also offered free to those arriving or departing Salerno station.

We hope your next trip to Italy you will stay a few nights and have a chance to thoroughly enjoy our facilities including swimming pool, beach and sites in the vicinity.

Warm regards,

We found this hotel after leaving terrible prepaid accommodation elsewhere - a breath of fresh air. Staff were very accommodating. The transfer service.to the ferry/town in Salerno was invaluable - you either need a car to get around or should rely on this transfer service..
We can highly recommend the ferry to and from Positano option. Positano itself is delightful and different to the other coastal towns.. Accommodation was very clean, roomy and comfortable. Breakfast was good. I did miss not having hot water to make cups of tea/coffee though. We drove around to Paestum - very interesting drive.

Room Tip: We chose the superior room which was excellent - large room and bathroom.
