I have been staying in this hotel nearly every February/March since 1991 and that is for a reason! This hotel (pension) is ideal for travellers who appreciate a warm, friendly family-run place to stay.
Location: Pension Gradenburg is located at the top of a (steep) hill about 10 - 15 minutes walk to the centre of Lech. Every morning, the hotel runs a free shuttle that will pretty much take you anywhere. Buses are free and run every few minutes, there is also a (paid-for) night bus. Because the pension is located at the top of a small hill and offers incredible views.
Rooms and facilities: If you want a super modern hotel, maybe this place is not for you. The rooms range from small rooms, to big rooms with a balcony with a stunning view over the mountains. Not all rooms had bathtubs, but most have showers. You really just have to specify what kind of room you would like when you book, the owner is very friendly and helpful. Every room has a small TV. There is a sauna and a steam room in the hotel, but do not expect a pool or full-service spa. Also, men and women walk around butt-naked amongst each other in the spa, so if you're not used to that, it might come as a bit of a shock.
Food: Now the food is possibly the best thing about this place. Every evening you get a 5-course dinner consisting of salad, soup, a starter, a main and dessert. You can normally chose from 3 mains (1 vegetarian option) and the food is ALWAYS mouthwatering. (I have gotten my hands on their recipe for home-made garlic cream soup, it is just so good) You may think the rooms are expensive (80-100 euros pp/night), but keep in mind you are also getting a 5-course 5-star meal for that money, which makes it excellent value for money. Breakfast consists of a breakfast buffet with eggs, a range of fruits and yogurts, freshly baked break, cheese ham and so forth.
Staff and hotel in general: Edith, the owner runs the pension with her daughter and normally one of them will always be at the hotel. They are both great and friendly people and really make an effort to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. The place is great for families (I myself spent 1 week every winter of my childhood in that place), but couples who prefer to be away from kids noises will still enjoy their stay as the restaurant never gets 'loud'.
Overall, Pension Gradenburg is an ideal place for couples, families and travellers who appreciate a friendly, family-run place with stunning views and amazing food.
