This is an outstanding hotel, the only potential criticism for those who rely on internet is that there is no internet connection in the rooms (no ethernet or WiFi), and the WiFi in the reception area was down for 2 days during our stay. The guests were told by the receptionists that it's an "area outage", but at the same time there was still internet available for the hotel administration/reception etc., so that was disappointing. Otherwise truly a nice place to stay, very quiet so good sleeping conditions, the rooms /bathrooms are designed nicely and matched our taste, a good mix of modern and alpine. Daily activities, hiking etc. well organised although the mountain guide (who was otherwise very nice) could maybe give a bit more information about the expected tours so that one could come better prepared. One tour was described as "easy" and a "3 hour round trip including the bus ride", it ended up being more like 5-6 hours, and for some people the hike was clearly strenuous, which was also reflected by the track markings which indicated a "difficult" category. The kids club staff and activities were great and the children liked it, the sauna/spa area provides ample room even on busy days. Last not least the food was outstanding, every day the menu was very decent including the wines served with the dinner. Service was excellent, with only some staff members seeming slightly disoriented/slack at times. All in all a great experience for our family and I would definitely recommend this to family/friends/colleagues.

We were in Lech region middle of march ,the weather was beautiful, sun, enough snow ,all the walking path, and ski runs perfect prepared and maintained. The hotel is perfect connected with Lech, by bus, free of charge, in walking distance to the ski run,and in the middle of wonderful walking paths. The room was big enough, with view to the mountain ,balcony, very big wardrobe, bath and toilet separate .The door to toiled was in country style, with a heavy wood handle, making noise ,and not really insulating (the noise is loudly heard in the room ).
The swimming pool is heated, outdoor, spectacular in the evening, under the moon(to swim outside, looking to the snowed mountains, under the stars ). The sauna offers a big choice, and the massage after is heavenly (try mr. Petre). The food is good, also vegetarians are welcomed, but the wines are expensive (very), yet the advice of the personal is very precious, and helps find tasty alternatives, little bit less expensive. The restaurant has a nice fireplace, but they do not make any fire(from 8 evenings, only one we had fire in the fireplace). All in one, it was a relaxing, good experience. We were there before , we knew the hotel, and it did not disappointed us.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room with sunny balcony and free view to the mountain.

We had a first time here and it was fab. We have a 4 yr old and two older children and they loved it here. They have a busservice to bring the kids to skischool, but in most cases we did it ourselves. The older ones can ski from the hotel but my 4 yr old had to go by bus to Lech which is every 20 mins. I thought it would be inconvenient but it wasnt. In the evening they organise dinner for the kids at 6 but they can join you as well at 7 if you prefer, bt our kids were so tired we would put them to bed so we could have a grown up dinner. Breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner was always good. Our waiter Eric was just the best sommelier and always happy. They do have a kids club but i wouldnt be happy to leave smaller kids there all day. Its quite open and possibly not enough staff either. Beds were slightly hard but bedding and towrls divine. No slippers for the kids so bring inhouse shoes! We have already reserved for next year..it was the most relaxing skiholiday in years!

In 2011 we have stayed for the second time here. Quality of food, rooms, sauna and service still on a high level.
But as they have built-on, it is getting less familial and you are only a "number" as in all big (chain) hotels. And the prices per night are getting higher and higher.....

Disappointing: instead of the 5-course dinner, on Sundays they only serve salad and meat fondue. Boring....

Room Tip: go for the rooms in the "old" main building

I spent at Rote Wand a lovely week last January with my friends. The hotel is perfectly situated at Zug, next to Lech. The nearby lift brings you to the slopes of the famous Lech-Zurs-St. Anton ski area. The hotel rooms a spacious, the SPA area is huge (1500m2). The outside pool is warm enough for swimming when outside temperature is even below minus 15 :) The food is good, the staff is ok.
Generally, very good hotel, especially for couples and families.
Good luck.

Stayed 4 nights in a junior suite. It is very expensive but worth the experience.
Plus:
- nice, modern and convenient room with plenty of storage places and huge windows,
- extra nice and welcoming staff - best service ever,
- great spa, sauna and outdoor swimming pool,
- excellent massage - as the masseur was a sport masseur.
- high quality and huge selection of breakfast - one of the best breakfast ever,
- very close to the lift - 2 mins walk
- a huge fitness room and stretching we did not use
The only slight inconveniences are 1) no internet in the room... the only place you can surf is in the bar and the bar has a smoking section (which is nice only if you smoke...) and 2) the spa/sauna/fitness area close very early @ 8pm.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Rote Wand is more than just a hotel. It is an establishment where everyone who comes here feels welcome and enjoys a sense of well-being. Day after day, as a matter of principle, we do our utmost to offer you that bit more than you can expect elsewhere. More service, more comfort and, above all, more heartiness. It is not only the people who are different here – the establishment itself is also somewhat different. First of all, you are greeted by the parent hotel which was built in 1651 (today's Rote Wand Inn), with its front coloured by the sun over the centuries and its red window shutters. From here, you enter the hotel and encounter its lovely, relaxed charm. The legendary “Rote Gang” underground tunnel leads you to all the other buildings, five in total. Despite its size – 132 beds in 50 rooms and suites – the Alpen Sport Resort has maintained its informal atmosphere. Despite this, the spa complex 1,500 m2 in size, with its fitness studio covering 300 m2, a spacious beauty and massage complex, six outdoor and indoor saunas as well as one indoor and one heated outdoor pool, is unparalleled even on the Arlberg. The Rote Wand family lodges, the junior suites, the hotel restaurant, the large sun terrace and the spacious Red Spa all have one thing in common: wherever you are in the Hotel Rote Wand in Lech, you are surrounded by pleasant, subtle luxury presented in local woods and a high-quality, contemporary interior. And since even a hotel such as the Rote Wand cannot offer everything it takes to make holidays in Lech unforgettable, as soon as you step out of the front door you are in the Zugertal, which simply cannot fail to entice you outdoors with its unique landscape and varied outdoor activities, whatever the season. ... more   less
