“Truly world class”
Reviewed 15 April 2013

This was our seond stay at the Rotewand, and I agree with the sentiments of the other reviewers - this hotel is absolutely superb, the whole family loves it and longs to go back. We had a 2 room apartment, great layout, lots of space. Service is very good but not intrusive. The facilities in the hotel are very good, excellent gym, lovely saunas (4 different ones), warm outdoor pool, great sun terrace, great bar. The quality and presentation of the food at breakfast and dinner is excellent. Dinner is true fine dining, imaginative, interesting, multi-course, yet manages to avoid being pompous. The wine list includes a lot of really excellent and (in context of this being a great hotel in Austria) affordable Austrian wines.

Overall a very cool, trendy, chic place. Really should be kept a secret rather than talked about on Tripadvisor!

Room Tip: There are a variety of layouts, but they all seem nice. Some are in wings away from the main buildin...

Following a depressing stay in a tired St Anton hotel in January wanted something a bit more special. Came here on a recommendation of some friends. Everything was great, welcome, room, food, service, swimming pools, sauna and relaxation area - even the weather was amazing meaning we could sit on the terrace and on our balcony. Nothing was too much trouble. Only gripe is that you don't get free wifi in your room - this place isn't cheap so need to sort this out to be properly competitive.

Room Tip: If you have a small child who needs to sleep during dinner make sure you stay in a room in the main...

Fabulous!!!! Fifth time here and it just gets better. Our three children 11, 11 and 12 years old, call it home away from home. The staff is friendly helpful and service minded. the rooms are great , we have always stayed in the Family lodge. The dinners are alway very good and the variety of of different food is high class. We are are going back next year again and maybe also over Christmas New Year.

Room Tip: The Family Lodges are great

Rote Wand is a world class hotel and restaurant in Lech/Zug. This family run business deserves a star in Guide Michelin. The service is outstanding; the staff is warm and friendly and professional. The atmosphere is an excellent mix of traditional alp culture and modern spa life with an avant-garde design twist. Ski lift around the corner. We are Swedish travellers from Lund and have visited Rote Wand six times now and will certainly come back. Take the chance to experience this wonderful place. The only risk you take is getting addicted; you will always want to come back.

Hotel "Rote Wand" in Zug (not Lech!) is very nice Hotel-Complex, which does not look like a big Hotel. The Spa is excellent. Outdoor-pool in winter. You swim watched by snow-covered mountains. Rooms are modern, stylish and yet very cosy. Food is excellent, prices are what you would expect in a world class-ski-resort. You pay, but get value for money.

This charming family run hotel offers fine dining for non-residents in either its modern restaurant or the traditional alpine setting of its original building. We chose the latter which was full of charm. The maitre d, semillion and waitresses were all dressed in traditional Alpine costume - the males in leiderhosen. The decoration was quaint and interesting with a lovely roaring fire. We chose the taster menu and found this of an excellent standard. The courses of particular note were the starter of Arctic char caught in the local stream, a chilli lobster with a pea purée and pea shoot dressing and an unusual mountain cheese soup. The best dish, for me, was a fillet of chamois - most tender venison dish I have ever tried. All-in-all this was a most delightful eating experience and one we will repeat when we visit Zug again. So impressed were we that we will consider staying in the hotel. The facilities offered for children look particularly good.

We spent a long weekend skiing here and enjoyed the friendly service, starting with the luggage and skies being brought to our room and the boot room, lovely staff all around, and great facilities - the sauna area deserves special mention for its modern design.
The food is excellent, striking the perfect balance between feeding the hungry skiers, and high end cooking. Sunday seems to be the day off for the chef with a simple meal.
The sommelier, Xaver, is a friendly guy with a knack for the good (read expensive) wines, but he acknowledges this and gladly recommends other choices.
The only downside is the absence of wifi in the rooms (plus the need to log in each time you open the computer), and it would be nice to have a well lit room for reading after dinner.
Overall: highly recommended.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Rote Wand is more than just a hotel. It is an establishment where everyone who comes here feels welcome and enjoys a sense of well-being. Day after day, as a matter of principle, we do our utmost to offer you that bit more than you can expect elsewhere. More service, more comfort and, above all, more heartiness. It is not only the people who are different here – the establishment itself is also somewhat different. First of all, you are greeted by the parent hotel which was built in 1651 (today's Rote Wand Inn), with its front coloured by the sun over the centuries and its red window shutters. From here, you enter the hotel and encounter its lovely, relaxed charm. The legendary “Rote Gang” underground tunnel leads you to all the other buildings, five in total. Despite its size – 132 beds in 50 rooms and suites – the Alpen Sport Resort has maintained its informal atmosphere. Despite this, the spa complex 1,500 m2 in size, with its fitness studio covering 300 m2, a spacious beauty and massage complex, six outdoor and indoor saunas as well as one indoor and one heated outdoor pool, is unparalleled even on the Arlberg. The Rote Wand family lodges, the junior suites, the hotel restaurant, the large sun terrace and the spacious Red Spa all have one thing in common: wherever you are in the Hotel Rote Wand in Lech, you are surrounded by pleasant, subtle luxury presented in local woods and a high-quality, contemporary interior. And since even a hotel such as the Rote Wand cannot offer everything it takes to make holidays in Lech unforgettable, as soon as you step out of the front door you are in the Zugertal, which simply cannot fail to entice you outdoors with its unique landscape and varied outdoor activities, whatever the season. ... more   less
