“beautiful hotel with stylish bar and facilities”
Reviewed 26 January 2010

The service was very helpful and attentive. The rooms are stylish, clean and you have space to move around. Hotel is in Zug and there is a free bus to the centre of Lech every 20mins - this is not a problem as Zug is a pretty location. The children's room is a wonderful addition with happy staff.

The hotel isn't cheap but where in Lech is?! Ski hard during the day and relax over great food in the evening. Perfect.

The hotel is perfectly located 5 minutes away form Lech and in front of a ski lift. For several years now, I go to Rote Wand together with my family. Exceptional about this hotel is the informal atmosphere. The moment you walk in you feel at home, compared with good service and friendly staff it is a great experience. The hotel has several good facilities, excellent restaurants, a nice bar, indoor and outdoor swimming pool and a spa. The spa is impressive with numerous saunas and relaxation rooms that are ideal for a relaxing moment after a day on the ski slopes. There is one disadvantage of this all, that it is hard to get a room during the high season.

If there’s a more picturesque hotel than Rote Wand, in a more scenic hamlet than Zug, outside a more exclusive village than Lech then I’d love to see it. The hotel is a great place to get away from it all with a fantastic spa with more saunas than days of the week, and an outside pool that takes the breath away. The style is relaxed not posh and unlike lots of the other hotels in Lech it really does feel like a family owned establishment. Rooms have recently been upgraded are spacious and comfortable and our gallery room had uninterrupted views towards the 9,000 ft Rote Wand.
The staff are especially good, attentive, professional and very helpful. Food in Austria is plentiful to say the least and Rote Wand has a great breakfast buffet with a juicer to make your own carrot or orange juice. The bar and lounging area has a central log fire and Gerhard has a cocktail for all occasions. For the active there’s a ski hire shop in the basement and you can ski from the hotel’s doorstep to the chairlift or to the cross country skiing trail. The trail is wonderfully pretty and secluded following the river from Lech to Alpele, where there’s a lodge style bar and restaurant that is only reachable by skis or snow taxi .
Two gripes: when we stayed the a la carte restaurant had not opened for the season and the other restaurant lacked the atmosphere we were looking for. However there’s such a wide choice of eating establishments in Zug and Lech that your main concern is whether you’ll fit into your ski gear after the third day. Secondly, you have to pay for WiFi, this really grates when you’re paying a good rate for your room.
Overall: cannot wait to go back.

we have stayed twice at the rote wand. and loved it both times. it has a really great kids club and a indoor outdoor pool which are lovely. the food is fine to v good, it does vary in the main restaurant but you need to book their best small restaurant for some really first class food and wine. the staff are great too.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Rote Wand is more than just a hotel. It is an establishment where everyone who comes here feels welcome and enjoys a sense of well-being. Day after day, as a matter of principle, we do our utmost to offer you that bit more than you can expect elsewhere. More service, more comfort and, above all, more heartiness. It is not only the people who are different here – the establishment itself is also somewhat different. First of all, you are greeted by the parent hotel which was built in 1651 (today's Rote Wand Inn), with its front coloured by the sun over the centuries and its red window shutters. From here, you enter the hotel and encounter its lovely, relaxed charm. The legendary “Rote Gang” underground tunnel leads you to all the other buildings, five in total. Despite its size – 132 beds in 50 rooms and suites – the Alpen Sport Resort has maintained its informal atmosphere. Despite this, the spa complex 1,500 m2 in size, with its fitness studio covering 300 m2, a spacious beauty and massage complex, six outdoor and indoor saunas as well as one indoor and one heated outdoor pool, is unparalleled even on the Arlberg. The Rote Wand family lodges, the junior suites, the hotel restaurant, the large sun terrace and the spacious Red Spa all have one thing in common: wherever you are in the Hotel Rote Wand in Lech, you are surrounded by pleasant, subtle luxury presented in local woods and a high-quality, contemporary interior. And since even a hotel such as the Rote Wand cannot offer everything it takes to make holidays in Lech unforgettable, as soon as you step out of the front door you are in the Zugertal, which simply cannot fail to entice you outdoors with its unique landscape and varied outdoor activities, whatever the season. ... more   less
