“Outstanding quality and service”
Reviewed 13 April 2009

Stayed for a week in the beginning of March. Lovely hotel, was greeted with a smile. Efficient check in. Chose hotel Gotthard because of nice reviews and recommendations. Rooms: Clean and spacious. Separate bathroom and toilet. Combo shower and bathtub. Minibar. TV with a few english speaking channelse (including BBC world). Breakfast: Great choice of different breads, otherwise the usual stuff. No show cooking or omelet though. We ate dinner a few times at the hotel, great service and not very expensive. Try the special Austrian evening. The spa departement was very nice, and it's free of charge for hotel guests. Swimming pool, steam sauna, ordinary sauna etc - great after a long day of skiing. Overall standard: Rustic mountain style, laid back and no problem walking around with ski-boots. In the basement there is a storage room for ski-equipement. Skislopes: Just amazing, no waiting-lines at the lifts. Amazing scenery. The city of Lech: Cozy and laidback. If you are looking for party and pulsating nightlife I would recommend St. Anton. Lech is quiet and family friendly. Around 200 euros for 6 days skipass and around 100 euro for renting skiis. The only thing I was missing was free broadband service: In a hotel like this it should be included. Otherwise we had no negative experiences.

The hotel was a perfect choice with friendly staff, very good sized rooms, good pool and spa area etc... My one concern when booking was the position of the hotel (being used to France with ski in ski out accommodation). However, there was no need to worry. The position of the hotel on the main street is within very easy walking distance of the slopes and fortunately is far enough away from the noisy apres ski bars with loud music (Hotel Krone and Hotel Tannbergerhof in particular) which are further down the main street in the centre of the village.

This really is a special place. We have visited Hotel Gotthard on a number of occasions. There have been some fairly considerable changes over the years (most recently the pool, sauna and massage areas downstairs and the stunning refurbishment of a number of the rooms) but the hotel still retains its intimate, friendly, family-run charm whilst at the same time providing an ever-more-luxurious place to stay. For the avid skiers among you, it is only a short (200m) walk to the main Schlegerkopf lift in Lech and an even shorter walk to the Rufikopf cable car to Zurs. And if you fancy a more leisurely start to the day, breakfast is available until noon and you can take advantage of the beautiful new pool, fitness area and massage treatments on offer. In the evenings, the bar is a friendly and relaxing place to have a drink and the food in the Lecherstube restaurant is great (best schnitzel in Lech). In short, I really think this place is great. I have recommended to a number of friends who have gone and who also loved it.

I have just returned with my partner from Lech, in the Alrberg region of Austria. We stayed for one week in the Hotel Gotthard and we had an absolutely fantastic holiday from start to finish.
We booked our holiday to go skiing, and although we didn't have the best skiing conditions during our stay (too much snow!!!), we still had brilliant time and wish we were back there now!

The hotel is based at the beginning of Lech village, with a walk of about 150m down a slight hill to the main lifts for skiing in Lech. The walk is through the centre of Lech and follows the river. The cable car (Rufikopf) is about 100m down the same road for access to skiing/boarding in Zurs and it runs every 10 mins. We started the White Ring course from here. The hotel also has a skibus stop outside for travelling further a field.

As soon as we arrived, the reception staff were very welcoming and personally showed us to our room and then where all the amenities were- which was very helpful. Our room was spacious and very clean. With lovely touches, like a heated bathroom floor, flat screen TV, sofa, balcony and loads of storage. One thing it did miss was an iron!

The breakfast was served from 7.30am- which was perfect for us, because we like to be first on the slopes, but it also runs late into the morning. The hotel has its own bakery which serves fantastic breads, pastries- but there is also a wide variety of meats, fruit, cereals- you could have a different breakfast every day! The hotel will also cook your eggs to order.

We booked on a half board basis, which included a 5-course meal, every night- all delicious and we couldn't fault the service- very professional. The wine list is also extensive.

The pool and spa area was lovely and clean, a bit chilly, but I think this is normal for Austria. We didn't make use of the sauna.

Overall, we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone; it has wonderful staff, great food and a lovely atmosphere.

  • Liked — Attention to detail
  • Disliked — Maybe slightly far from the ski lifts (if I was been fussy)

We stayed at the Hotel Gotthard in March. Staff and the owners were very friendly. Our room was a Rubin, which was very comfortable, plenty of storage and a balcony. Bathrobe/slippers provided. Breakfast was very good, fresh bread everyday baked on the premises. There is also a Bakery/Konditorei attached to the hotel which had cakes to die for, we ate in the connecting Stubl one night, food was average. There is a lounge area which is an extention of the dining room. Decent size boot room. Nice spa. The hotel is about 100m from the lifts. Directly oppsite is a Spar grocery store which is handy, there is also a bank/ATM machine connected to the hotel. Ski bus stop is right outside.
Your key card for the room also acts as your lift pass, just ask at reception for how many days you want and they put it onto you key card, saves you having to go to ticket office. Wireless internet is at a charge of 10 euros for 2 hrs.
Unfortunately the week we went there was quite a lot of people being bused in from St Anton, due to lack of snow in that area, which made for lift queues, and we also had two days of rain. Eating Out: Would recommend the Italian restaurant opposite the Lech/Oberlech cable car, great pizza. Also, the Stubl (Steiner restaurant) excellent local cuisine and very good service. Not far from the Post hotel.
Would recommend you go and see the Night SKi show if it is on.

We have just returned from a weeks skiing holiday in Lech where we stayed at the Hotel Gotthard. From the moment we arrived the service we received throughout our stay was faultless - all of the staff without exception were so welcoming and friendly as were the owners who should be justifiably proud of their hotel.

We stayed in a Saphir double room which was a really good size and very clean and comfortable, with plenty of storage space - some of these rooms have a balcony (unfortunately ours did'nt) which would be worth requesting. All in all a lovely room and with all the finishing touches - slippers, bathrobes etc.

We had two days of rain during our stay, when skiing was not an option for us and the swimming pool and spa area proved to be a real godsend - the quality and standard of these facilities are excellent and it made a real difference to our holiday having this area available.

The breakfast buffet was first class - the hotel has its own bakery and there was a fantastic selection of fresh bread available each morning. We did not choose the half board option so I cannot comment on the evening meals - although we did eat in the a la carte restaurant one evening and that was very good.

There are numerous restaurants in Lech - but a word of warning - they do get booked up. Our first night (Saturday) was spent wandering the streets trying to find somewhere to eat and eventually, after five attempts we were lucky but I would certainly recommend booking restaurants in advance.

This was our first time skiing in Austria - our previous skiing holidays have been in France and whilst the slopes of Lech cannot compete with Courchevel or Val d'Isere - the resort does have real charm and the Hotel Gotthard is absolutely fantastic and we would love to visit again.

We have just enjoyed a lovely week at Hotel Gotthard and Lech. Lech was perfect with challenging slopes for my partner and a brilliant beginners area for me.
No complaints at all for the hotel. Our saphire room was surprisingly large with plenty of storage for all our ski gear, plus there is a room downstairs for boots and skis.
Location very convinient to ski lifts, shops, restaurents, bars.
Lovely sauna and pool area, all very clean.
Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Lots of extra touches such as champagne and smoked salmon on the Valentines day breakfast buffet. Food was great at hotel but we also enjoyed some excellent meals out.
1. cosy and best pizza in town - Charly Hotel and Restaurent - book in advance.
2. house No8 - across road from hotel, again very cosy and traditional Austrian food.
3. Fux Restaurant & Bar very funky, there is an asian fusion restaurent, pricy but worth it, had delicious prawn curry and best creme caramel ever. there is also a very cool bar and steak house.
we are looking forward to returning.
