“Superb fondue experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2013

We had the pleasure of dining at the Pfefferkorn Restaurant back in February and this was made possible by the fantastic Danish waiter named Torben.
We were staying at a self catering apartment but decided to go out for dinner. As we had not booked anywhere in advance (highly recommend you always do so when in Lech!) we were struggling to find anywhere nice that had space for the three of us.
At first we were turned away as the restaurant was full but luckily Torben came to the rescue and made us feel very welcome along with the female restaurant manager. We were offered a glass of wine at the bar while a table was prepared for us.
It was a fondue evening and the quality of the food was superb, served with genuine warmth and hospitality by Torben and his team. The restaurant had a really cosy, warm atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the friendly and professional manner in which it was served.
As we enjoyed our after dinner coffees we were positively surprised when Torben came and offered us a little local pear snaps digestive. This was a fantastic gesture and put the finishing touch to a great overall experience. He made our evening an experience that will be remembered and talked about for a long time to come. He gets it. Thank you Torben.

We went on our traditional trip to the Alps the last week in February 2013, and stayed one full week in Pfefferkorn's Hotel in beautiful Lech - and we were amazed by their friendliness and level of service, in addition to the hotels location and newly renovated Wellness-area/Spa.

Upon arriving (about 22.00) we were greeted by Mr. Pfefferkorn (owner) and a serviceminded front desk staff who effectivly carried all our luggage to our rooms. Afterwards we had a delicious brick-owen pizza in one of the hotels restaurants - Die Pfeffermühle.

The rest of the stay was totally stress-less and with the location this hotel has, it merely takes 30 sec. to get to the Ruikoppf-bahn and 2 minutes to the Schlegelkopf-chairlift.

The hotel also has a very nice after-ski-bar, just by the entrance - and where some of the other after-skis are fairly over-the-top posh, with snobbish guests sipping Dom Perignon, the Pfefferkorns Ice Bar has the right atmosphere and the right music! We loved it!

Then there is the amazing supermarket - also in-house at the Pfefferkorns. You'll find all you need there, included some of the best international and austrian wines. Great thanks to Roland for informative and interesting details about the wines in the Vinothek.

The beautiful wellness/sauna also has to be mentioned, and it really was a perfect place to relax after a long days skiing.

Lastly I have to mention the fantastic wine tasting we had with Mr. Pfefferkorn in the hotels wine cellar. Simply an amazing experience with great wine and great information and fun stories from Lech and around the world.

Some constructive criticism would have to be the service-staff in the evening restaurant. Unfortunately we were a bit unlucky and had to wait way too long for our meal - even with a half-full restaurant. However, it was simply a minor detail, and not at all something that would reduce out total impression of the hotel.

Some of the rooms also might have a need for renovation, but I believe this is bound to happen during the next couple of years. Some suites are already fully renovated.

All in all - a fantastic winter holiday, much thanks to the amazing front office staff; especially the sisters Isabella and Julia Fitz, along with Cornelia. Since the very first e-mail I wrote to the hotel they have been some of the most service oriented hotell staff I've ever met. :-)

We'll definitely come back to this hotel, mostly because of the service level, but also because it has everything; Ski-rent/depot, 2 restaurants, wellness-area, great breakfast, after-ski, 2-3 minutes to all the lifts and a great wine cellar!

Thanks to the staff for a great holiday! And to quote another famous Austrian, I'll conclude this review by saying; I'll be back! :-)

My husband and I had previously stayed in Lech twice before on skiing holidays, at other hotels.

In December 2012, we decided to take a well earned break, and booked a two week stay over Christmas at the Hotel Pfeffkorns.

We opted not to take a package holiday this time, and decided to drive from the UK, and book our accommodation directly with the hotel.

Initially my husband emailed them to check availability- replies with all the relevant information on were received very quickly.

The final booking was done over the phone, and handled in a very friendly and efficient way by Isabella and Julia, who spoke very eloquent English.

Upon arrival we parked our car outside the hotel entrance, and were greeted by the three receptionists, who quickly arranged for our car to be unloaded and the luggage taken to our suite, meanwhile the car was moved to the hotel's underground car park. Check in was informative, speedy and all the girls were so enthusiastic, and naturally friendly.

Before we were taken to our suite Mr Pfefferkorns came to greet and welcome us, which was lovely. Also he insisted in helping me, by carrying some shopping I had in a bag, taking it to our suite. (Now that's what I call service, above and beyond the norm!)

The entrance hall to our suite had spacious wardrobes, and storage areas, as did the sitting area and bedroom.

Our suite comprised of a sizeable sitting area, with flat screen TV, fridge for own use, partially stocked with some complimentary drinks, and biscuits. Separate shower and toilet, bedroom with Austrian double bed, and second bathroom with double sinks, bath with overhead shower and screen.Lots of mirrors, a good hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers and complimentary Bvlgari toiletries.

We also had a shared balcony, but that was shared only with one other suite on the opposite side of the hotel, and during the our entire two week stay, no one ventured on to our side. So loss of privacy was not an issue at all. Sun chairs and cushions were also supplied.

After the long drive from Rotterdam to Lech, we arrived down to dinner on our first evening just half an hour before the end of service. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by Caroline the restaurant manager, who welcomed us, and assured us that there was no need to rush, and she meant it, as she happily served us with after dinner drinks and tea at the bar at around 11.00pm that night.

Anyway I digress. Caroline recommended a nice local wine to accompany my meal (my husband does not drink alcohol) and then we were introduced to Bianca, another charming member of the restaurant team, who turned out to be our main waitress for the duration of our stay. She was always, friendly, charming, professional and efficient. She spoke marvellous English as did Caroline and Torben, and they challenged me in a fun way to ask for my favourite local wine in Austrian, which was the source of some amusement.

Breakfasts are just lovely with a good selection of cereals, fruits, meats, cheese etc. Cooked breakfasts are available, and prepared fresh on an individual basis. The Eggs Benedict is a real treat!

Dinner was a gastronomic delight, the food was simply delicious. Also the prices for drinks and wine were reasonable.

One thing I must say about this hotel is that all the staff who work there are genuinely, enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. Nothing, and I mean nothing is too much trouble for them. All the reception staff knew us by name, and friendly smiles, and chats were plentiful.

On day two, Mr Pfefferkorns introduced us to his wife, and we had a nice chat, in fact we saw and talked to them on numerous other occasions during our stay, each time they asked whether everything was to our satisfaction, which of course it was.

The hotel's website will give you a good idea of the decor, which is traditional, tasteful and modern. The new spa is just marvellous, very quiet, and an ideal place to unwind and relax after a day on the slopes.

Unfortunately for me seven days into my dream Christmas holiday disaster struck when I was hit by another skier. I sustained a number of substantial injures, which meant I was in hospital for four days, only discharged on Christmas Day.Fortunately the private hospital I was admitted to was in Lech, and so on Christmas Eve my husband was allowed to stay the night with me. Much to our surprise, the chauffeur from the hotel Pfefferkorns arrived that evening, bearing gifts from the hotel owners, a Christmas tree for my hospital room, a basket containing a selection of La Praire toiletries and magazines, and a plate of hand-made, iced, Austrian Christmas biscuits.
Well those kind of actions just speak for themselves don't they! My husband and I were just overwhelmed by this kind and thoughtful gesture, as we were by all the offers of support by everyone at the hotel - Mr Pfefferkorns offering to take us in his car to the hospital for further medical checks the lovely plates of food left for my husband in our hotel suite when he had missed dinner on more than one occasion after being at the hospital, the request for a large number of pillows for my bed from the head of house-keeping, ( who we saw and chatted to daily) nothing was too much. I even received the gift of a bar of chocolate from one of the restaurant staff, and a genuine welcome back when I finally returned to the hotel.

In our opinion the Hotel Pfefferkorns is a first class hotel, owned by a genuinely kind couple, who really care about their guests. This ethos is mirrored by every individual of their team. We would definitely recommend a stay at this wonderful hotel, and we will return without a doubt.

This is the first time we stayed in Lech during the summer at the first week of our holiday. We know Lech for the outstanding skiing atmosphere and stayed twice during winter in Hotel Pfefferkorn of which we were impressed by the kitchen, breakfast, bar, service and the central location. We didn't know what to expect during summer....only that we wanted a relaxed holiday, experiencing beautifull nature, good food and fine wines. We did! The atmosphere in summer is more relaxing than during winter as Lech can sometimes be overcrowded by the nouveau riche.
We booked the Karnhorn suite with a seperate bed for our 10 year old daugther. A nice room with good facilities although our bed seemed to be embattled by the walls as we are quite tall. Anyway we slepped well. The Breakfast is not as full as during winter but still very good. In summer the restaurant is closed so you are dependable of other restaurants or the Pfefferkondl Bar. This we can recommand! You still have access to fine wines (Amarone, Montepulciano etc.) and surprisingly excellent dishes and managed by quick and polite service. Also at the day time the bar is centred at a great location for enjoying the view, a Veneziano, a beer or good food. Lech and Oberlech in summer are quite beautifull if you appreciate mountains, nature and fine hotels. At the Rufikopf you can walk the geo-weg and even see some Ammonites. By checking out our car was already parked outside the garage in front of the hotel by the concierge who packed our car in no time. Perfect, we didn't even asked for it.
Again, we enjoined Lech and Hotel Pfefferkorn and are sure to return here.

Room Tip: In summer, the church side is cooler

After two weeks of wandering around Germany, my friend and I decided to spend three days in the Austrian Tirol this July, and she chose the town of Lech, which looked like a tiny place with nothing really to do.

My first surprise. THE TOWN WAS AMAZING!!!

We looked at several possible places to stay on line and chose the Pfefferkorn hotel, a family owned and run property in the center of town. It looked relatively inexpensive and seemed okay, from what we could read about it on the web, but other than that I knew absolutely nothing about the hotel or the town it was based in.

The hotel turned out to be a tremendous find, and we are seriourly thinking of going back to the town and the hotel next year, due to the fact that we were blown away by our travel experience!

The hotel is in the middle of Lech, a small but beautiful town, large enough to be interesting and fun, but small enough to be quiet and romantic.

To say that it was in the middle of everytihng is an understatement. Chairlifts? Cable cars? Either next door or across the street. Hiking trails? All over the place, with hikes for the rugged hiker to familes filled with young kids.

Scenery? Postcard perfect.

The food? The town had lots of great places to eat, and the restaurant/bar/outdoor cafe at Pfefferkorns was among the very best, and certainly the best priced -- and Mark, their concierge/mgr and his staff, have loads of great additional suggestions.

If you get bored with Lech, the place is vertiably surrounded by gorgeous little villages that you can drive to, bus to, take a cable car to, or hike to. Your choice! Oh, and by the way, if you're in Lech for several days, the town has something called a 'Lech card', which Pfefferkorn's arranges for you to get for free during your stay, at least during the summer.

Want to take a cable car, then a bus to a nearby town, then a ski lift back? No problem, it's on the house. You get your Lech card upon arrival, next door at the town information center (everything seems to be next door to our hotel!), and ride everything for free for the duration of your stay to your heart's content!

The Pfefferkorn's are a delicious family, complete with a postcard cute young daughter, and they couldn't be nicer, more helpful or friendlier. Each morning at breakfast, and throughout the husband and wife drop by to say hello and chat. They are absolutely great fun to spend time with, which explains why apparently much of their clientele come back year after year after year.

The staff, starting with Mark on down, literally fall all over one another to make sure that you have a spectacular stay.

This is not the Ritz, but given the price tag during the summer, it's 5 star plus.

And next time we'll not make the same mistake. Next time we'll go back for a week!

Gene

We only spent one night in one of the penthouses before we went to our other hotel for a weeks stay. Our friends continued with their stay and we got to enjoy both their and our hotel. The Pfefferkorn has the most outstanding location, our room was newly renovated with magestic mountain views - we watched the snow falling across the village from our bed and could watch the activity on the slopes at anytime. The reception staff were brilliant - they were very friendly and accomodating. Their is a bank, ski hire, outside bar, shop in the hotel which makes it very convenient. The only downfall was the food on the odd night we ate there. The one breakfast we had was dismal - no plates, no butter, no eggs, no bacon - we had to ask for everything and not the greatest variety. We ate dinner three times in the hotel and one was good. There are so many good places to eat in the village that this should not stop you from staying here as everything else was very good including the evening visit from Herr Pfefferkorn.

Room Tip: Our newly renovated room on the top floor facing the mountain slopes was absolutley outstanding.
