“Excellent service”
Reviewed 19 June 2013

Stayed for four nights in one of the gallery suites on the top floor. The suite is perfect when you travel with a small child because the living and the sleeping room are on two different levels. So, when the child already has to sleep upstairs, you can still sit downstairs, watch TV or enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony. Since the suite is on the back side of the hotel, another advantage is that the balcony is not affected by cold wind when it blows from the sea, which can be an issue, if you stay, as we did, in early May. The service of the hotel is excellent. The staff members were very friendly and always helpful. Especially the restaurant staff did an excellent job. We also enjoyed the Spa. All in all, a very relaxing stay.

Great location with direct views of beach and sea. Nice and very clean rooms. Extremely friendly service, Nice restaurant with good food. Small but nice spa area unfortunately in the basement so pool without windows.

Room Tip: We had a nice corner room with direct sea view...so great view and with a lot of natural light.

I and my lady have frankly never expected any trip to any German sea-side destination to be so rewarding as it actually was the one which we made to the spa town of Binz between Friday 17 August and Monday 20 August. Our first ever encounter with the heavenly area of Rügen has been a great experience. A Mediterrean type of atmosphere in an unprecendent weather of the third August weekend combined with a German type of precise services has made our trip to Binz a gem among all of our other recent long weekends. Our accommodation in the hotel Am Meer has been by all means wonderful - its location can hardly be better (really nowhere has been too far), its ambience has been perfectly matching a purpose of our trip (what a wellness area!) and an attitude of its staff (and last but not least of its owner) has been an archetype of perfection. Well Done Am Meer.

Room Tip: Sea side rooms are not necessarily the best choice for Am Meer Hotel guests due to a lack of any sun...

Hotel appearance is very classical, in consistence with all the buildings in Binz. Inside is very modern, they just renovated the hotel in 2011, so everything is new!

Reception area is not big, but staff are all charming, and extremely friendly! We arrived at 9am which was much too early than the official 3pm check in time, somehow they kept apologizing that they couldn't give us a room yet, which is fully understandable! There's a big room next to reception where people can wait, read, and watch TV.

Breakfast is another highlight! Variety is big enough for a hotel this size, what is very impressive is the quality of the food and drink! All you have sea view from every table!!!

Location is super! Can't get closer to the beach! Very close to main street where all cafes, restaurants are. Bakery and supermarket (EDEKA) are nearby.

The only shortage is, the bathroom is tiny for a room this size, and it's sometimes very noisy since it's next to youth hostel.

Room Tip: Corner room with side sea view is very worth the value! Can see the sea through the balcony but not...

Hotel Am Meer is located directly at the beach, only separated by a path for pedestrians. It has a lovely restaurant where you can sit outside or inside as you like.

We were a bit disappointed with our dinner at the restaurant as the service was slow, which meant that the kitchen closed without any notice before we got to the desert. Furthermore our waitress didn't speak a word of English so she couldn't explain the menus or anything for us and she didn't offer to get another waitress to help.

We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely breakfast buffet with several kind of breads, sausages, yoghurts, mueslis, nuts, fruits, dried fruits, eggs, tea, juice, coffee, hot chocolate, cheese, etc. etc.

The fitness room and spa area was clean and quiet. We rarely met other guests when using the facilities.

The rooms were clean and with designer furniture.

Negative things:
- We were 5 people which meant that one of the double rooms should have an extra bed. That wasn't the case and it took some hours after we have asked for it before it was set up.
- We were woken up at 5am because the radiator was broken and made a weird noise and we had to contact the reception.
- We asked for a DVD-player and were told that they didn't had any. Then we read in their folder that they had, and we went down and asked again. This time they found one - not very professional. They forgot to give os the remote so we had to go down an extra time for that as the DVD-player didn't work without a remote.
- The balcony door to our room was very hard to close.
- The main door didn't close properly which meant that you had to slam the door really hard an double check to make sure it was locked.
- The fitness room could use some dumbbells, levers etc.
- We ordered two rooms with sea view but only one of the rooms we got was with sea view.

All in all a nice hotel with a good location, but with a lack of service.

When we booked The Am Meer at a cost of 200+ euros per night we were entitled to expect something a little special.
We have travelled quite a bit through Germany and usually find the hotels give good value for money.
However whilst the Am Meer is happy to charge deluxe prices it certainly does not offer deluxe service.
The reception area is plain and promotional posters everywhere made it look cheap.
The room itself was a corner room and supposedly an upgrade.
In reality it was an average sized room with a bathroom which was very small. Besides which it was on the first floor directly over the bar. Luckily we are not really early birds and the bar winds down pretty early anyway.
The mini bar wasn't stocked properly( we will forgive them for the opened bottle of sparkling water which was in there!) which shows lack of attention to detail.
Breakfast was fine but we felt they could have used a bit of imagination on the buffet.
We ate in the restaurant twice and again it was just ok. For a hotel of this standard it should be better.
The service staff however were all charming and very helpful.
The one thing that did leave a bad taste was the 8 euro a day charge for car parking. Parking is a problem in Binz but the hotel know that and to sneakily charge 8 euro a day when we are already paying 200 euro per night is poor practice.
On the plus side the location is very good and the staff are great but they are charging at least 50% more than the service they are delivering.
You need to up your game Am Meer!
