“Highlight stay of this trip”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

Located not in Bevagna town but outskirts, not easy to arrive because lack of street direction signs... is highly advisable to arrive on daytime but in case cannot make it, just have the mobile available to call for more detailed directions or to be picked up like happened to us...

A house completely immerse in the countryside surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. Is a very small b&b with just two rooms; very but very simple, plain with just the necessary: a bed with clean sheets and towels; a clean bathroom, space to store belongings; a small table with one chair... no tv, no antique or vintage furniture, no fancy decorations, but has a wi-fi line available and deckchairs in the little terrace at the entrance of the rooms. At night is better to keep the little wooden gate closed since wild boars roam around at nightime...

Breakfast is served on the natural terrace, open air under fig trees with a panoramic view of Bevagna and the Umbrian countryside. This is a large breakfast: ham and cheese cuts, yogurts, breads, croissants, pastries, cakes, cereals, fruits, marmalades, hazelnut cream, coffee, tea, juices there is no way to leave hungry from here. Everyday changes; a different type of bread, pastry or cake; different type of ham or cheese, everything personally and tastefully cared and chosen by the landlady …. an absolute treat for a morning start....

Meal services (lunch or dinner) are available from Wednesdays to Sundays, homemade food. Is a good place also to enjoy a couple of drinks, good selection of local wines and German beers, sit and relax. Didn't had the chance, but they do organize movie nights (during the peak summer).

As written before is located in Bevagna area; a great area where to base an Umbrian trip; north: Perugia (50 minutes), Assisi (30 minutes), lake Trasimeno (1:57 hour & minutes); south: Marmore Falls (1:20 hour & minutes), Terni (1:10), Spoleto (39 min.); east: Norcia (1:20), west: Todi (50 min.), Orvieto (1:32). Bevagna itself is such a cute village (listed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy) with Roman era origins.

The landlady, Annelie is a cheerful and delightful host. Always available. Creative. My little one got a marzipan figure which she prefers to keep it inside a jar like a trophy in her room...

Downside: this place opens from April to September, that means that the rest of the year is closed.

As titled by Easyridar, this place is a little secret... and when I think back sitting in that terrace well, as some might say, heaven is a place on earth...

Its a little off the beaten track and all the more pleasureable for it. On Sundays a buffet brunch is served on a terrace (with a great view looking over bevagna) that wouldn't be out of place in one of Ottolenghi's restaurants, only all the ingredients are umbrian and its inspired by a Berlin tradition, thanks to the hosts George and Annelie. Its all very reasonably priced and if you feel like staying the night (prosecco is part of the brunch...) they've got decent rooms with ensuite for 55 euros per night. We returned on thursday night for the outdoor cinema, complete with a great range of italian and germans beers. Ah, La Dolce Vita!

Il Grotto is the perfect place if you want to spend a lazy Sunday eating local and international food (berlin brunch) perfectly prepared by the charismatic hosts from Berlin. We also spent a Thursday night there for the cinema under the stars. although we didnt stay at Il Grotto as we stayed with friends up the hill, annelie showed us the rooms and they looked lovely and are a bargain at 55 Euros for the night
