“Way beyond expectations”
Reviewed 1 week ago for a stay in July 2018

After making the booking and before arriving the communications with hosts David and Anna we excellent. As with many Umbrian towns such as Bevagna, parking is very limited however on arriving they ensured we could easily unload our bags and return the car to a nearby free parking area.
The 1 bedroom ground floor apartment was spacious and was just what we needed for a weeks stay whilst we ventured around all the lovely local towns. Anna and David were constantly helpful in suggesting places to especially see and having drinks with them and then subsequently being invited to an evening barbecue on their stunning small plot of land nearby was simply a pleasure.
Bevagna is just beautiful with it's closely clustered buildings from the middle ages supported on such solid Roman stonework and all the winding back streets. A visit to the very well preserved Roman baths near the centre of town is essential for all visitors with entry best organised with the Tourist office - when it's open !
Although it was a hot mid summer visit, the apartment was cool and ample space in the fridge for cold drinks and perhaps the odd bottle of Vino(!), There's an ample choice of small restaurants in the town which are very reasonably priced and only 5-10 minutes walk from the apartment. Our impressions will always remain of Santa Maria, David and Anna, the apartment and Bevagna being so warm and friendly that my wife and I can absolutely recommend a stay there that will be a great experience. Don't miss it !!

“Perfect place”
Reviewed 21 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

Great studio apartment in an ideal location. Owners were very helpful and very kind to collect us from the local railway station and return us on departure day.
The studio was very well equipped and comfortable and only a 5 minute walk to the main piazza and delightful shops.
Great stay.

“The best find”

If you're looking to experience real life in an Italian village, then look no further than David and Anna's apartment "Santa Maria" in Bevagna. It is apparent by the way these hosts have furnished Santa Maria that they are well travelled themselves and know exactly what makes a "home away from home". Stylish and tasteful, Santa Maria offers all the necessary comforts, plus many extras. It's very well appointed, with quality chattels and beautiful furnishings and was presented in a spotless condition. David and Anna have a genuine passion about their home and the area within which it's nestled and are happy to share their extensive knowledge, which makes them truly excellent hosts.

We travelled extensively through the USA and Europe, but staying at Santa Maria remains a highlight of our trip. If we ever get back to Italy, we will definitely try to stay there again. Thank you lots, David & Anna!

“This is the way to see Italy!”

When I want to learn about a country or a region, I’m hoping not to find a lot of familiar retail stores and food franchises from other big cities. If you feel that way, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to tour Umbria and Tuscany from this attractive, clean, well-appointed studio apartment in Bevagna. My husband and I spent a week here, and when we were tired of day trips to the bigger tourist draws like Assisi and Siena, we found the smaller towns like Arezzo and Spoleto to be just as interesting, without the crowds. After a day of walking through medieval towns it’s nice that here you’ll have your own charming piazza to sit in. Bevagna is surrounded by good eating opportunities and there seems to be one food festival after another in the area. You can also pick up some of the great local foodstuffs to make your own gourmet meal, since the apartment has everything you need, including a clothes washing machine. I have already recommended this property to several friends.

“A hidden treasure.”

We stayed 6 days at Santa Maria and didn't want to leave. It was stylish and modern yet situated in a historic hill village where we could join in village life if we wished to. Our hosts were helpful with ideas and knowledgeable about the region - we hadn't realized what an interesting and beautiful region it was. The studio was comfortable, spacious, well-supplied and attractive. We enjoyed spending some time relaxing both inside and on the flowered area outside.

“Beautiful Bevagna”
Reviewed 18 April 2014 for a stay in September 2013

We spent a wonderful three weeks with Anne and David. The apartment is spacious and tastefully decorated. The location is great-exploring and walking through and around Bevagna itself would have sufficed but our wonderful and knowledgeable hosts treated us to day trips-Assissi, Perugia, Spoleto, lunching and dining at local restaurants (of which there are many) A fantastic place to be.

“Bavagna made even more beautiful”
Reviewed 17 April 2014 for a stay in August 2013

Arriving in a foreign speaking country can be exhausting at every level. Book into Santa Maria and that struggle is over. Hosts Anna and David are fluent English and Italian speakers. Their own great love of Umbria is infectious and well placed. It is truly beautiful. The sunflower and olive tree clad hills and valleys interspersed with historic villages make for absolutely breath-taking vistas.

The province, including Bevagna is a cultural and historical feast and if you are there in the festival season Anna and David will take you to some in the nearby towns where medieval practices will be dramatised in front of you after which you get to participate in a meal celebrating the speciality foods of the particular town and watch magnificent fireworks displays. A fantastic introduction to Italian life, history, culture and cuisine.

Bevagna, surrounded by a Roman Wall, can be explored fully in less than a day on foot and Anna and David will give you all the guidance you need to ensure you don't miss a treat, including the cappucinno and cornetto con crema from the local café. You will also be able to attend any local concert in the evening, mostly free and always a wonderful musical or dramatic experience.
David's knowledge of Bevagna and Umbrian history in general is profound. We took day trips to Assisi and nearby Spoletto and came away as filled with knowledge and enlightenment as we were with good food.
Our hosts were warmly welcoming, helpful and generous and were as keen for us to have a great time as we were. Having such extensive local knowledge, they also advised us on other trips which we would otherwise never have known about. Truffle hunting, for example, and helped us organise that. They were also most generous in advising on travel beyond Umbria, making sure that we took the cheapest travel options for the shortest travel times and booked the best accommodation at the most affordable rates.

The Santa Maria apartment could not have been more perfect accommodation. Plenty of room for two, very comfortable beds, cool in the summer and we understand centrally heated in the winter. Ample kitchen and relaxation space and having access to WIFI was an added bonus. An experience we shall never forget made even more memorable by having such fantastic hosts.
