There are many good restaurants in the area, and one of our go-to places was shut when we dropped by for lunch. That's how we discovered this little jewelI. The exterior is very unremarkable and we would have driven by, had the three small outside tables not been set for lunch with colourful plates and blankets. So we stopped and am I ever happy that we did. I spend a lot of time in this part of Tuscany, and after a few weeks of eating out, I pine for for something different than the typical starters of salumi and Pici con sugo. The food was fantastic. We had a puff pastry filled with asparagus and topped with a fried egg and truffle shavings, followed by Tagliatelle in a cream sauce and a thick pumpkin soup with pieces of bacon, ideal for warming us on a brisk winter day. I would kill for that soup recipe. For desert we shared marinated slices of juicy orange which was delicious. Service was prompt but our server could have been friendlier. Prices are in the middle-high end. I will certainly be back for dinner with friends, even though this means a 50km round trip. Lunch was that good.
