“WE WILL RETURN”
Reviewed 19 May 2010

Just returned from a fab 2 week stay at Lagunamar Suites.
A former luxury hotel with 44 suites now run as apartments by CLC. Their spacious and spotless with good veiws.Large pool with separate kids pool, lots of quality loungers, also indoor pool, jacuzzi gym and steam room.
They have a great courtesy bus which takes you to supermarkets beaches markets resorts etc all free of charge, so you can manage without a car, although there are no bars or shops within walking distance.
The restaurant offers 3 menu choices and if taken as a pack over 3 or 5 days you can get a excellent 3 course meal for 12 euros.
Entertainment is a bit sparse only BBC1&2 available.
The staff are all excellent, nothing is too much trouble
A great choice if you want a great get away from it all holiday. We will return

First visit to Laguna Mar with Club La Costa..it exceeded our expectations. The staff were excellent .. willing to help in any way possible. The accomodation was brilliant although the furniture could have been more comfortable for 4 and the kitchen facilities were adequate only.
The unheated pool was quiet .. but our weather was excellent!!
The area is sheer quality .. the real estate is amazing .. a walk to the lake is a must. The restaurants are fantastic .. particular favourites were Julias a short drive awayand the absolutely excellent Casa DoLago on the lake .. not cheapest but amonst the best we've been to.
There are some great local walks and some spectacular scenary around the sea.
All in all, a brilliant resort.

I'm a widow in my early 60s and travelled with one slightly older companion.
RESORT :Lagunamar is a 42-apartment resort, currently leased by Club la Costa, in the exclusive area of Quinta do Lago. Very remote from shops, restaurants, bars, sea etc.
Is fine for keen hikers as plenty of good nature walks around, at a guess, but otherwise you need a car - nearest access to beach Vale do Lobo (15 mins drive) nearest seaside resort Quarteira (20 - 25 mins drive)
AREA: Exclusive, i.e. expensive, but possibly the worst roads in the Algarve! Lethal potholes, ditches etc, not lit, so particularly bad at night. Terrible road signage!!
ACCOMMODATION: The 2-bedroomed apartment: Rooms large but sparsely furnished.
Both bedrooms of more or less equivalent size.
Two bathrooms (one ensuite and well fitted including a bidet).
Lounge with balcony/terrace, TV/DVD player, totally inadequate seating (one sofa, two stools), large dining table and 6 (hard!) chairs. Only 2 chairs and table outside.
Separate kitchen with fridge freezer, microwave, table-top convection oven, 4 rings.
No dishwasher or clothes washer, but a very cheap laundry service is offered.
Effective heating/air-con which you need to learn to use!
PUBLIC AREAS:
Bar, where you can buy basics of food (water, milk, eggs etc) by filling in an order form, when it's open. Open all day and has free internet access.
Restaurant. Never actually saw anyone eat here - we tried it but it was overpriced for the quality, which was no more than average.
Swimming pools - too cold for outdoor when we were there but it looks nice, and also one heated indoor pool. Gym with usual scary machines etc.
Small office converted for use as a 'games room'. Currently consists of a PC with video games for kids, and a chess set. A few books and a few DVDs can be borrowed.
ENTERTAINMENT: In the bar on a couple of nights (reptile show and ballroom dancing display, both good) last for about an hour. Guided walks on a couple of days. Probably more in the summer.
TV in bar tuned to sports or news channels.
TV in apartments has progs in Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and English (BBC1. ITV 1, ITV 4 plus a news channell - and maybe a sports one but I didn't check!)
STAFF: Without exception delightful. Eager to please, nothing too much trouble.
HOLIDAY ESSENTIAL : a car with a good chassis, and a good map!!
RECOMMENDATION: Local restaurant 'The Orangery' recently re-opened by Brits with the right idea. Excellent food, really high quality at middle of the road prices. To reach it, turn left towards Vale do Lobo when you get to the 'main' road, and right at the second roundabout (the one with the Vale do Lobo sign on the wall). Down the hill, it's on the right where the road forks for Almancil or Quarteira/Villamoura.

SUMMARY; To be fair, we had terrible weather almost throughout the two weeks we were there, which didn't help!! We might otherwise have been content to sit in the sun by the pool and read or something. As it was, I seemed constantly to be behind the steering wheel as we went off for a change of scenery, a glimpse of the sea, a nice long lunch in a decent restaurant....... So, a great place for healthy walkers, but perhaps not one for the hedonists!!

we traveled with my elderly parents and had a 1 bedroom apartment. it was quite nice because it had a very large living room (where we slept) and eating place and a seperate kitchenette. the kitchen was equipped with all we needed and the airconditioning was very good. it is very clean with a nice pool. the staff were very nice and helpful. we had a rented car and travelled in the beautiful algarve towns. the beach was too far to go on foot and there were high waves so we didn't go there. my parents stayed on for the whole week and enjoyed the quietness and beauty of the place. it is in a very nice and green environment and there are nice views from the roof. they used the minibus to get to faro for there trip back to lisbon. it is difficult to find and i don't think we would have enjoyed it so much without a car...

Travelled to lagunamar suites at end of june for 2 weeks with teenagers and young children. We arrived late on sat night so ate in the hotel restaurant which offered set meals or a la carte - really nice food but quite expensive for the amount you got. Rooms were really nice and we were lucky enough to get room 301 with the best and biggest balcony overlooking the pool. Kitchen was adequate and included a hob, microwave, kettle and a small oven with grill but no washing machine or dishwasher which was a bit dissapointing. Large living room with pull out mattress if required. Pool area was spacious and never had any trouble getting sunbeds. Bar had a happy hour every day which proved popular. Team marina staff were excellent with activities from 10am until 8pm including archery , ping pong, water polo and kids club for 2 hours every afternoon. Entertainment at night was limited with some form of show or games from 7pm till 8pm including a reptile show and an eagle show. A couple of nights there was a singer in the bar but only heard from balcony. On a tuesday morning they organise a walk to the nearby lake at quinta where you can have discounted watersports for 2 hours it was a good morning with plenty kayaks and pedaloes. We didnt use the minibus but it went to quite a few places every day including supermarkets and beach and vilamoura most nights at 6pm but you had to make your own way home. We hired a 9 seater van which we had to use daily for trips to beach , supermarkets and restaurants most nights as nothing is within walking distance of hotel but it really isn't an issue if you have a car. There are loads of good restaurants within a few minutes drive we ate in almancil, vale de lobo , quarteira and vilamoura. We visted aqua show waterpark which was a great day out. We also went to quarteira gypsy market on wed which was massive and very busy. Loads of great beaches nearby . Hotel also has a large sun terrace on the roof, a gym , indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna .

We recently visited Lagunamar with our 14yr and 12yr old daughters. The accomodation was very good, restaurant good but limited menu and quite expensive. The staff were excellent from the receptionist, porters, bar staff and restaurant staff and maid service - could not fault their attention to detail. Our only criticism would be that there was nothing to do in the evening, no entertainment and the games room closed at 8pm. Our daughters were bored silly. We had to take taxis to the marina 20 euro each way, which made the evenings very expensive.
