This is lovely accommodation, and quite a bit different from the usual self-catering places.
The difference started with the booking process, very laid-back, we made a reservation by email, but it was a long time before a deposit was required.
On arrival Sandrine introduced herself and gave us a very helpful, informative explanation of the complex and the surrounding area including which shops to use. The overall impression, from the moment of arrival is of a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere, where a great deal of thought and care has been taken to make it perfect.
Our double bedded studio was lovely, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped.
There are two very clean pools, one being intended for quieter relaxation. Both are well stocked with sun loungers and cushions. Between the two pools is a corridor with an extensive library of books in several languages.
The laid-back atmosphere extends to the on-site shop, which is well stocked, but self service to the point where you just leave a note of what you've had and it is added to your bill! Next door to the shop is business centre with computer and printer, just make sure you can cope with Windows XP Portuguese edition!
Nothing is too much trouble for Sandrine, who gladly provided more pillows, and a much needed fan. When the fan broke down she gave us another straight away.
At the time we stayed, there were a lot of families with young children there, it is a small complex, so it could be a little noisy at times. This didn't detract too much though from the atmosphere.
The complex is on the edge of Almancil, so a car is handy, there is a good sized car park. A big Aldi is 5 minutes' drive away, 5 litres of water there will set you back less than 50 cents, likewise loo rolls (which oddly aren't included in your room charge) are very cheap there too, just about any food or provisions you need can be bought there, or from Apolonia, a couple of hundred yards further along the road.
A great stay, be prepared for something a little bit different, you won't be disappointed.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The sun and the golden beaches, the architecture and the landscape, the sympathy of the people, the cosy and safe environment: all these ingredients have seduced Isabel Vilela, owner of the Quinta dos Amigos, who decided to settle in the Algarve in 1990. After having acquired the Quinta dos Amigos, a big rural property of the XIX century, the main objective consisted in restoring it and turning it into a tourist destination. The apartments as well as the outside spaces (small yards and gardens surrounding the two swimming pools) were carefully renewed, each one with its own atmosphere and individuality. The Quinta dos Amigos is an open space and at the same time an intimate place (surrounded by a rustic wall), ideal for a calm and relaxing holiday. Away from the crowds, it enjoys a privileged location, close to the main touristic attractions. Your children will be able to play in the swimming pool and the gardens, as well as in our swings and ping pong areas. For more peaceful moments, a little library grows each day thanks to the books that the clients themselves leave behind. The Quinta dos Amigos is close to the main beaches of the region, as well as to the touristic compounds of Vale de Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura. Therefore it is near to sport facilities, including golf and tennis courts, spas and the Marina, or leisure facilities, like discotheques, restaurants and casinos. Quinta dos Amigos has a private car parking. ... more less
