“Nice vacation away from our vacation”
Reviewed 17 June 2013

We are in the middle of a 3 week trip around Portugal, Morocco and Southern Spain. Having 2 nights here to relax was great and enjoyable. We used points from a timeshare in the States to book this pace. We found the 2 room villa to be very spacious and comfortable. The market on site was well-priced and stocked, so we had all of our meals in the villa. We enjoyed the pool both days, it's very large and well done. We ran to the beach in the mornings (about a 1.5 mile run one way).

There is no wi-fi right now in the villa, but the reception area has it and it works well. Also, we had conflicting stories on whether or not it was okay to drink the water from the tap, so we just boiled ours.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They are very well trained and some of the best that I have ever encountered. They worked hard to get us our villa 3 hours before check-in time (16:00). Also, we had a little bit of an ant problem in our room, and they came out several times to try and get rid of them. They even left us a complimentary bottle of wine for the inconvenience.

We did not rent a car, we took the train from Lags to Faro and a taxi to Qunita do Lago (30 euro). It is 32 euro to get private transport to the Faro airport.

I had quite forgotten how friendly and hospitable the Portuguese people are.

If ever we visit the Algarve again this would be our choice of venue... every time. Not only for the resort itself but also for the manner in which all the staff go about their business. It is so refreshing to have people wanting to do their best for you, helping to create a lovely atmosphere here.

As for the resort and the amenities...a car is essential and is only a 25 minute drive from the airport. (The car return at the airport is well sign posted until the last 100 yards but just follow the road and you will stumble across your car rental company). All properties look to be well maintained but some are better located than others if you prefer a little more privacy. We stayed in villa 162 which received sun on the patio from 9am until 7pm. The drive into the mountains well worth it though we benefitted from very quiet roads.

All of the Quinta do Lago region is quite spectacular..... and this really is a great place to stay

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom properties are very spacious...see if you can get one near the south end .... down the...

Thank you for choosing Vilar Do Golf and we appreciate your feedback. Our apartments have been refurbished to a high standard and we are pleased to read that the resort team made you feel very welcome. Hiring a car is recommended and this give guests the chance to explore the beautiful Algarve.

We hope to welcome you again in the future.

We needed to get away from it all and managed to escape the dismal UK weather in April for some Portuguese sunshine. This hotel is only a 20 minute drive from Faro airport and less than a 3 hour flight from Manchester and set in the heart of Quinta Do Lago (home of the rich and famous). Our room, the setting, the staff and the food were all very good. Watching the golfers play onto the 18th hole whilst we sampled local beers in the Bobby Jones bar was excellent. Highlights were water-sports on the local lake, bike riding through the Ria Formosa wildlife reserve, walking for miles down the golden beaches of the algarve coastline and a trip to the Cliff Richard Vineyard for a superb wine tasting session. A night out in an authentic Portuguese restaurant with newly made friends was spectacular - Coverts, Black Pork, Baby Squids, etc, washed down with copious amounts of wine/beer and firewater! The days were so relaxing near the pool or just walking down to the local shopping centre for Pizza/Ice-cream to see if you could see the likes of Ant & Dec, Bruce Forsyth, Steve Gerrard, Kelly Brook, etc. All in all it was a lovely break in a quiet location and just what the Dr ordered away from a dismal UK winter!

Just spent a week here with my wife. Excellent apartment everything you could want in the apartment. Restaurant was very good. Food was good staff friendly and very welcoming. Entertainment was varied and first class. Food and drink prices were a bit expensive but there were some theme nights which were slightly cheaper. Overall an excellent place to have a holiday.

Just returned from 5 nights at Vilar Do Golf. Last time we visited was over 10 years ago and the improvements are unbelievable. We had villa 26, a one bed and the refurbishments are beautiful. We had a full kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine and good quality fitments and furnishings. No bath but a very nice walk in shower. The restaurant Bobby Jones was really good, not a big menu but top quality food and reasonable prices for a 4 star. I believe the old owners went about 3 months ago and the food is so much better and there are several theme nights being introduced such as Brazilian and Italian. We dined in the restaurant four out of the five nights and some nights it was rather quiet. I only hope more members use it or lose it which would be a shame. The food at the pool bar is excellent with a good selection of food and drinks. The little onsite supermarket is also decent, we even saw local people using it so the prices must be good and the daily fresh bread was welcome. The coffee shop/cafe at the reception could do with a bit of a spruce up as it is not particularly nice, but I did see some guests eating breakfast and it did look very good. We used it to buy a coffee so we could sit outside reception for free Wi-Fi in the comfortable easy chairs under the shade. There were several activities wine tour, market, bike rides and we did partake in the walk around the reserve to view the bird and thousands of crabs with Alex, which was very interesting. We also strolled down to the beach which was an easy twenty minute walk and walked along the front but the resort does provide a shuttle bus if you don’t feel so energetic!
The whole place is so much more attractive and all credit to the staff for this excellent resort. The addition of the beauty salon was also well received and the prices are very reasonable but you do have to book! Diamond have certainly got it right at Vilar Do Golf.

This was our second time staying at the Vilar do Golf with diamond resorts. We stayed in a two bed villa, which was supposed to be for 7 nights having booked an 8th night in a one bed to extend the holiday. To our delight the reception staff put us straight into our two bed to save us the hastle of moving. Which was a nice touch. The villa we had this time had an excellent view of the course. Car hire is essential here which we had learnt the previous year. There are some lovely restaurants in the area which reception will recommend. Golf is expensive in this area as is everything else, but it is well worth the money. I also had the luck of bumping into Tony Jacklin on the putting green at the quinta south course which shows you the class of the courses in the area.

This was our fifth trip too Vilar do Golf, need I say more! We starting going nine years . We stared going with mid teen children, and they still wasn't to come with us if they know this is our destination. The Vilars are 5 stars, well appointed, we looked over the tenth hole this time. The cleaners visited every other day. We had a heat wave this time, but its still a bit early for the outside pool, although the Pool Bar was open.
Diamond resorts have taken a over the Beverage side of things, and there is a definite improvement since last summer. The Pool bar now has sensibly priced, drinks, food and ice creams, no need to walk up to the shop!! The welcome at Bobby Jones is as always superb! A special mention to Jose! The best cocktail maker ever (White Lady, is the best).
The new Manager over all the Beverage side, has some really good ideas and has already made such a change to the restaurant, it was busy all the time during this last visit.
Well done to all the team at Vilar do Golf.
