“Nice hotel totally spoilt by non-guests”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

Hotel is in a good location, far away enough of all the noise but only ten minute walk from centre. Decor needs updating in the bedrooms and corridors but everywhere was always immaculately clean and tidy. Food was nice and always hot with plenty of choice. Dining area for breakfast and lunch was very nice but the dining area for the evening meal had an odd atmosphere, very quiet.

The pool area was lovely but was totally overrun by local British workers every afternoon into the early evening. They didn't purchase any food or drink and left a huge mess every day. This really let the whole holiday down and we chose to spend as much time away from the hotel in the day as possible which was a waste of our all inclusive option but better than being surrounded by approximately 50 loud mouthed, rude, swearing yobs.

Would not return to the hotel unless the problem of freeloading non-guests was eradicated which is a shame because all of the staff including the manager were very hospitable and friendly.

Thank you for your nice comments regarding the staff and the hotel. We have now resolved any issue for non residents using our pool area. Please note that this was sometimes happening because hotel residents have been inviting people from outside. We have now taken all possible measures in order to minimise this issue for the enjoyment of our clients who of course have priority to us.

This is going to be the most honest review I can write!

4 of us (two couples) have just come back (19 Th August 2013) after staying in the Anmaria Hotel for a week.

The holidays was booked through Olympic and it cost us £800 each for all inclusive, a pool view and 20 kg luggage. All in all, it wasn't the bargain of the century, but it was a fair price and we enjoyed every moment we spent there.

Now I read all the reviews before we went, and let me tell you from the offset, the guy who wrote all that complete nonsense about the hotel, including murders and the like, is a complete '**** Head'. By the look of his writing, he was probably high on the wacky backy when he was writing it, so just dismiss it for what it really is "A Load of rubbish".

The Hotel...

The Anmaria Hotel is staffed by some of the most hard working, extremely polite and helpful people that you will find in all of Cyprus. This includes the manager, his female assistant, the desk staff, the kitchen staff and the restaurant waitress's, the bar staff and lastly the most important group of them all, the ladies who keep the whole place spotlessly clean.

I hope the Manager finds the time to read this out to all of his staff, for I told the Manager how excellent his Hotel was when I was there, so I hope he passes it on to his staff because they all deserve to be know how well they are doing.

The Hotel is Modern, immaculate in it's appearance and very well positioned in the town of Ayia Napa. So much so that if you stay here, you will soon see how central you are for everything and realise how lucky you are that you have chosen this Hotel.

We had a problem with our fridge and although we pretended it was annoying us a lot more that it was, within a day the fridge was changed and the next day a second brand new fridge was put in our room. As I've said, the staff at this Hotel are the best in Ayia Napa, so please thank them and tell them how good they are. I've stayed at some flea pits in my time, so every time I get somewhere descent, I tell them now. It only seems to make the staff want to be even better, so again, when someone gets something right, then tell them how good they are, it works for me.

The Meals

If you don't believe that what you are presented with each day in the restaurant is good enough for you, then you are a bloody spoiled fussy eating moron. If breakfast, lunch, dinner and the all-day snacks, that aren't really snacks but meals within themselves, are not good enough for you, and you still want more, then if I were you, I would only stay in a 5 star hotels in the future because you have become a snob.

We found that there was only half an hour out of everyday, that food was not be served. How much can a person eat or want to eat????

The pool

The pool is fantastic and let me tell you that it is the perfect place to laze in the sun, read that book you bought at the airport and drink the inclusive cocktails all day (I found the Ayia Napa the best).
Now there is a grump regarding this pool and it's this; other people come from outside of the hotel, bring their own drink and use the pool facilities, this usually occurs from about 1.30pm onwards.
Now most people get annoyed by this, but not me, for you see the people that came from outside were usually girls in their twenties who wanted to go topless. Now this seemed to be a big problem to some, but for the life of me, I couldn't see anything wrong with it. To be brutally honest, I found the whole experience quite wonderful and even the wife commented just how chilled I had become after spending time relaxing by the pool. Big Smile!!!! Chill out life's too short...My sister did say I was a perv though and I have to admit, I resemble that remark!!!

Excursions

Don't Bother. We did the "Get to know the Island tour" it cost us £80 and we ended up spending 8 hours of a 12 hour tour on a uncomfortable coach. Don't do it, it will just ruin your holiday. Every bodies ankles swelled, even the fellas with the lack of movement. it was terrible.

Cyprus

This is the second time we've stayed in Cyprus, the last time was Limassol, but the recession has hit Limassol hard and a lot of it is closed.

The Russians

Cyprus has become a playground for the Russians, and although they are no trouble, they are somewhat miserable in their demure. They also don't spend like the brits and a lot of the Cypriots are only just learning that. But the euro has to be made from whoever is willing to spend it, even if it is like getting blood from a stone.

All in all, a bloody marvellous time was had by all.....

This hotel is seriously the best hotel in Aiya Napa. Myself and friends (all 20 and 21) stayed here during August and had a brilliant time!
Its in the perfect location! Most importantly its only a 5/10 min walk from the "square" (a safe and pleasant walk) and its close to supermarkets, restaurants and "Garys Bar" an English snackbar. The hotel its self is lovely, the rooms are cleaned daily and are spacious and modern. The swimming pool is by far the best feature, it is HUGE and free from grime which is common in other pools in Napa.
The food is more than satisfactory, a bit boring some days and repetitive but I could always find a plate to eat! And as we were on a party holiday we weren't that concerned about the food!
The hotel staff are lovely and always said hello and good evening.
During the day around the pool, there is a mixture of ages. The pool bar plays music so there is really good atmosphere. A lot of the workers come to the pool to relax but they aren't rowdy or loud, we ended up chatting to most of them and having a laugh.
This hotel is perfect for young people who want to experience Aiya Napa but do not want to stay in a grotty, run-down hotel. I would recommend this hotel and I definitely want to return next year!

Stayed for a week 10 July half board. We are young 50 year olds who enjoy a lively resort and the company of youngsters, but the hotel was more like an 18-30 holiday. Location brilliant to restaurants/bars/the famous Square 10 minute walk and quiet enough to sleep (depending on who your room is next to). To start on a positive beachside location and view from pool area could not be better. Pool and surrounding areas excellent for enjoying the sun with plenty of sunbeds. Mornings are really quiet by the pool. Friendliness of maids and standard of cleanliness in bedrooms excellent. On the downside most of the reception staff appeared uninterested when approached with questions or comments, these being the Russian staff, the Cypriot man on reception of an evening was extremely friendly. We complained about the fact that most of the local workers invaded the pool area lunchtime onwards on a daily basis, taking free sunbeds, playing football in the pool etc leaving their beer cans and empty bottles strewn across the pool area. The reception said they know this happens but were okay with this situation. Yesterday it was like a racetrack in front of the main reception doors with youngsters showing off on quad bikes/mopeds etc. In fact one of the reception lady managers with dark hair came outside and stood and watched them. Very dangerous if you have young children.

The fridge is charged at 2 Euros per day with a deposit of 5 Euros. Don't bother as the fridge was useless. We could have kept the drinks colder in a bath of water.

Food on the evening was at best average and some days appalling. It was never hot, chips were cold as were baked potatoes in fact anything in the trays. Quality and variety is not 4 star. Some nights were a so called carvery but the carver was reluctant to let you have more than one slice of meat! We ended up eating out several times. Breakfast is great if you like bacon and eggs, anything more than forget it. The jam never contained any fruit pieces in it.

Would only recommend young people to stay at the hotel, certainly not families or over the age of 30 and don't fall for the All Inclusive option.

Room Tip: Room on 2nd floor. If you like noise choose a pool view which are Even numbered rooms.

I stayed at this hotel 29th - 6th july. I was half board (dinner/breakfeast). I arrived saturday afternoon it was time for dinner, the food was cold and bot hot and dirty plates.

However i still tryed the food but it was awful, so i thought the menu the next day looks better so i see untill tomorrow.

The chef was in the kitchen smoking around the food, no clean hands no clean uniform.

Breakfeast was worst everythink was unooked, food was off but the only thing you could have was hot drinks and jucies.

Alot of people came down with food poison so did i, some people got sent home early or stayed it out to the rest of their holiday.

Cut story short everyday people was complaing about the food, nearly everyone was sick in the hotel.

The cleaners are lovely, and respectful. They clean ok but some times you may have to ask again for them to go over your room.

The air con never works, they send a man over to fix it, but really he doing nothing.

The wallpaper hanging off the walls.

Towels got changed after 3days, i did complain but there is one staff member a lady black dark hair, she either has it up or down she russian is so rude.
I complained to her about about the above and she rude, i dont know how she got the job , if u complain to her she start arguing with you or if you ask for manager she always say he not here.

There a lady called natalie at the reception desk, she really lovely and nice.
She is the best staff in there she does her job right ,talks to you and sorts everythink out for u if you have a complaint.

The pool is never clean, but you can get a sunbed anytime, and the locals dont take the sunbeds at all.

I eat out alot cause the food in the hotel was vile, so behind the hotel there ia garys bar and grill, really cheap lovely. If you fancy a real fry up English breakfeast then you should go there.

Next door to it is a lovely pizza place called pomppei, and that cheap as well if you wana stay local.

I wouldnt stay there as it is dangerous, if you are a female you always get harssed by the locals and try to follow you back to hotel and a girl got raped as well.

The maffia was always around be careful dont walk with your belongs unless need to.

When i was there there was a shooting outside the hotel as well, what not good if you saying that it is family hotel.
Also a man head got chopped off it really dangerous, dont dress up fancy you be come a target.

It not a family hotel as alot of familys was not happy, this is cause the younger age to rave was in the hotel and disturb alot peace at night time.

They said it was a 4*star hotel where its down by 3*star now so they are advetising it wrong.

I wouldnt bring my children there even though im 22yrs old with no children, you always see the youngers having sex in the day/night time in the pool or on the floor. You dont get peace at the hotel, if you do want that ask for room number 217 as your next to stairs and dont hear anythink and at the bottom.

Do not get any bus over there to dangerous fast and speed, if you want your life over.
Get a quad if you wna travel alot i would say at least 5days if u staying over 7days. Its worth the money really, because the strip is so long to get to shops.

Small planet airlines are awful, i went flew with them going there. I thought i was gonna die the plane was taped up, so tiny no leg room its just tight tight tight, they give you food what is cold little lunch pack what you cant eat at all. I advise you bring your own if travel with them.

I was due back the 7th july but because the airline small planet when busted, i was told that i was flying out with cyprus airline but i missed a day and half out but obwas happy as long as it was not with that airline again.

It was lovely with cyprus airline, leg room, free foos and alchol drink how many times. Staff lovely but no tv, you have magazines to keep you going.

Dont ever fly with small planet, unless you ready to die, there was tape all over inside and the piolt section, the staff dont even talk English a little the piolt was all over the place .

So my stay over there was a 1star, im only 22yrs old in a dangerous place, shooting , killing, rape and getting followed home. I wouldnt send a family or my children there.

But make sure you go nissi beach
It really good but get there early as all the beds get taken.

Dont get the taxi the drivers are fast dangerous and try charge you more. outside the anamaria hotel is safe stay with them there a good taxi rank.

But watch the road all time when you are walking about as it like fast and furious.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your experience with us. Regarding the food of the hotel please note that there has not been any incidents with food poisoning - as I am sure you are aware, if there is food poisoning this will be with the majority of the guests staying in the hotel eating the same food... we neither had any information from any tour operator in regards to complaints about any food poisoning. Our food includes themed buffets and breakfast is international - various cheeses selection, eggs, beans, bacon, corn flakes, salads etc which yes we incorporate the English breakfast as well but you have so many various other items which are not standard English breakfast items. The pool is cleaned daily very early in the morning when clients are sleeping as well as late in the afternoon. In regards to Ayia Napa as I am sure you were aware prior to your booking, it is a buzzing place full of life, events, clubs, bars and beautiful beaches. Yes if you see it as a whole some families might not find Ayia Napa suitable for them, but there are hotels such ours which are quiet and cater for families. Ayia Napa is not a dangerous place, as a matter of fact the whole of Cyprus has the lowest crime rates in the whole EU and crimes are almost non-existing! Surely visitors should be taking care as they do back home but definetely you could not say Ayia Napa is dangerous! We don't have mafia either... I am wondering how you made up your mind that there is mafia everywhere... maybe you mean the big bulky guys outside the bars or clubs? If so, these are securities actualy who are working for the business in order to make sure everybody behaves in a proper manner and this contributes to clients safety! We dont have shootings as well in Ayia Napa, but we do have fireworks from time to time when celebrations are on, maybe thats what you heard?? Ownership of guns or rifles is not allowed in Cyprus (like ie. in the USA). And youngsters do dress up fancy in Ayia Napa, actually everybody dresses up fancy and theres no problem with it at all! We neither never heard of somebody's "head got chopped off"... incidents like this in Cyprus are so rare that you hear them on the news when it happens. Taxis all over Cyprus always have the meters on,,, so basically this means what you see is what you pay... Thank you for taking the time to post your review, we are sorry to hear that you have the wrong opinion regarding Ayia Napa, and we have taken all your comments regarding our hotel very seriously in order to further improve our facilities and services.
