We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks as a family of 4, children aged 14,12. We stayed in the Junior Garden Suites which were well worth the extra money.
The hotels location is excellent, a short walk to the centre of Ayia Napa, or bus stop and taxis outside of the hotel. The rooms were adequate for our stay, cleaned well, the beds were a bit too hard but overall a good room. The food was really good and plenty of variety in lunch and dinner, my only negative would be that the food available at the snack bars was very limited and meant that you had to go for dinner to avoid being hungry in the afternoon. We spent most days at the activity pool and didn't go to the quieter pool. It was sometimes difficult to get a sunbed due to people reserving them from very early in the morning, there was nothing done to address this by the hotel.
It was the Thomson entertainment team that made the holiday and my reason for the high scoring of the hotel. The entertainers were excellent at their job and I would definitely book again if the Thomson team were here. The staff at the hotel were fantastic in their jobs, always friendly and welcoming. Would definitely return

Room Tip: Junior Garden Suites well worth the money

Three adult people spent a very nice week here last year. The first room we were given was not very good, and in our opinion, certainly not a superior room which was ordered. But we was given, after some argumentation a new lovely room with fantastic views. All Inclusive was excellent, varied and good food. Very pleasant staff. The beach was excellent, but there was a little twisting to get to it as there are stairs on the way.

Room Tip: Superior with a view.

we stayed in the sun garden for two weeks at the beginning of August two adults two children 10 and 7 yrs, we all had an amazing stay we arrived in the very early hours of the morning but were welcomed very warmly and taken to our room by a friendly porter who was very attentive. our room 715 was one of the bungalows with the most amazing sea view was a fair size although storage space was a little poor we managed ok . pool towels were provided and you could change them 3x a week which was nice.
The pool areas were very clean and we were always seeing staff clearing things away and generally keeping the grounds tidy.
The restaurant staff amazing so friendly and helpful and the food was very good always fresh and tasty, the drink selection was very good lots of cocktails that were depending on who made them for you usually very strong ! the red wine is also recommended.
The Thomson black pearl trip was really worth the money we all thoroughly enjoyed this trip the children had a ball being entertained by the pirate crew and the adults were involved as well we found the pirates very funny and entertaining.
The beach behind the hotel was nice quite busy but the water beautiful very warm and clear be aware if you do any water sports on the beach do not leave your belongings with the people you pay with they lost my daughters flip flops and got quite aggressive and accused my 10 yr old of lying which did upset her understandably, you are better off leaving belongings with the people under the umbrella who you give your receipt to much more friendly and helpful.
I would recommend this hotel to any one with children lots of things for them to do fantastic kids club, fantastic reps and very happy friendly and helpful staff I would come again

Room Tip: choose a bungalow ,715 had the most amazing views of the sea beautiful gardens surrounding the pathw...

We have just returned from Atlantica SunGarden having stayed with my partner & our 3 year old son from 3/08 - 17/08. I had high hopes for this hotel having stayed at other Atlantica hotels & reading the many glowing reports prior to our arrival. However we were dissapointed, the hotel just had no wow factor when we pulled up & were puzzled that there were no welcome drinks (haven't experienced that before!?). Our room (103) was even more dissapointing, it was like a postage stamp with no real cupboard space & very, very dated.
We also had issues over the 2 weeks with the very poor standard of cleaning in the room sadly taking our complaint to the Thomson rep in the end. The floor was still filthy EVERY day after it had been cleaned, dirty cups keep being left from our morning tea yet the maid replenished the tea/coffee! One day we returned to find a pillowcase put on our bed that looked as though it had a fight with a cat, the pillowcase was ripped to shreds, who would put that on a guests bed!? The last morning we woke to find the roof of the balcony above had slightly collapsed & covered all our stuff left on the patio in paint chippings & plaster!?
I also e-mailed the hotel twice several weeks prior to our departure to ask for a specific room. Despite both e-mails being read we didn't get allocated what I really wanted/asked for. I was surpised to talk to another family who were also 2 adults & 1 child that had only booked a last minute break 2 weeks before & paid, like us, for a family room yet got the type of room we wanted....nice one SunGarden!!

Despite my negative comments we did start to warm to the other aspects of the hotel. The pools were great & the adults only pool had spectacular views. The childrens pool was also great with plenty of shade & a lovely box of childrens toys/inflatables for all to use. The all inclusive drinks selection was superb with prosseco, children's milkshakes & a good range of cocktails included. Mealtimes were nice although a very limited choice especially in the childrens section. The staff all over the hotel are amazing, extremely attentive & really friendly so the management should be proud they delivery such 1st class customer service (especially Bogi in the restaurant).

The sunbead situation was the usual, get up at 7.00am if you want a bed especially around the activity pool. The entertainment team were great daily, a little poor in the evenings but when you have Ayia Napa or lovely Protaras who needs the evening entertainment. Special mention to Handy Andy, what a great guy & complete credit to Thomson.

Fig Tree bay is a must, easy trip there on the bus. If you come out of the hotel & look to your right the bus stops are there for you & are so easy to use. Another MUST trip is The Black Pearl, best Thomson trip we have ever taken. A fun few hours out at sea for adults & little aspiring pirates alike.

Ayia Napa is such a great place but if we was to return it would be back to the Atlantica Aeneas & not here I'm afraid. Thomson are also a little naughty slapping a 5* price tag on our family holiday when for what we got it should have been a couple of thousand cheaper! The Atlantica group should look at the Atlantica Agean Blue in Rhodes. We stayed there last year & it was fantastic, the Sun Garden should really look to that hotel in how to have a stunning hotel with all round quality x

We chose this hotel as we have stayed as a couple with Atlantica many times before and thought this year we would take the children to Cyprus. We read previous reviews about the hotel before we chose it and made our decision based on photographs, location, value for money and the Atlantica Brand. On arrival we were only greated by the Night Porter. On opening the door we were disappointed after paying for a Junior Suite this was little more than a budget hotel room!! The air conditioning was virtually non existent and the beds were hard and uncomfortable. On waking we found our toilet didn't flush and shower head wouldn't stay up. On the plus side the view from our room was stunning over looking the sea and the man-made fish pool. Food was OK but very repetitive the same things over and over again and not enough variety. The hotel looks dated and in dire need of modernisation! The pools need supervision as our enjoyment was spoilt by the amount of inflatable items. There is an activity pool, an adult only pool, a family pool and an indoor pool where we had to spend most of our time as there were no inflatables in the indoor one. Room cleanliness was slap dash at best and on departure when checking the room parted the twin beds to find the under sheets were filthy and soiled. As per usual the staff are lovely and only too helpful apart from some at reception who maybe due to lack of understanding of language came across abrupt. We would definitely not rate this hotel as 4 Star giving it a 3 is generous. Who ever runs Atlantica Hotels needs to take a good look at this one as it's dragging their brand name down.

Review of Atlantica Sun Garden

Positives:
The food is fresh, tasty and varied. Each night has a clear theme (fish, italian, etc) but there's always something for the children and something for veggies. Loads of fresh fruit and local desserts, as well as ice creams.

The pool bar and upstairs bar provides snacks such as pizza, sausage rolls, cheese pies, apple pies, pop corn and ice creams throughout the day, as well as slush puppies, milkshakes, coffees and alcoholic drinks. The bar and restaurant staff are all very friendly and amenable.

The kids clubs and entertainment team are excellent. There's a show each night in the outside amphitheatre (peak season) and before, after and in between acts the team are amusing guests with bingo, prize presentations and such like.

Before the show each night from 7.30-9 is little pups and kennel club where all of the kids learn Thomson the dogs dance routines and play games. They then dance again after the main show up until 11pm.

Kids clubs run from 10-12 or 1-3 depending on age. Or there's a drop in club for all ages 10-12 and 3.30-5.30 daily except for Fridays which is their day off. The crèche for under 3's runs several slots a day including evenings, these are all chargeable. Again the kids club and crèche staff are excellent and both my kids (1.5 and 4.5) really enjoyed the sessions and came home with a lovely art folder of all of their work.

There are also organised games during the day for everyone, water polo, football etc and for those that don't fancy that there are pool tables and table tennis along with some (archaic) arcade games.

Our family room was located on the ground floor at pool level. We could walk straight from the balcony to the poolside which suited us perfectly.

The hotel itself is located around a 20 minute walk from aiya napa and so if you want to venture in to town you can easily, but if you'd rather not, it's not too close to avoid. There are supermarkets just outside the hotel for basics and lilos etc.

A few negatives (our last holiday was sensatori so I'm being very picky here):
The rooms on our 'side' of the building are in need of a refresh. They are quite dark and dated but still clean and well kept.

15 euros a week for a safe stuck in the throat a bit.

Beach towels can be changed only 3 times a week...yuk.

There are two main pools - an activity pool and a 'relaxing' pool which is where our room was located. Although there's no music and organised games here, it's not exactly relaxing. We put this down to the sheer volume of people in peak season. You aren't meant to reserve sun beds before 8.30, but by 7.30 they've all got towels on them! Maintenance will remove them if people complain but people just seem to accept it and get up early to bag a spot.

There's also an adults only infinity pool but it's too shallow to swim in - and there was often kids in there.

There is a LOT of chlorine in the pools. All of our white swimsuits went yellow almost instantly and my daughters blonde hair developed a green tinge. Easily remedied but still!

There are also beds behind the pool on a grassy cliff top area that are quite peaceful if you're without kids for a couple of hours.

Drinks from the pool bars are served in paper cups. Although I understand why they do it, it's not quite the same - especially as it's the pool bar that serves the amphitheatre in the evening.

So in conclusion: sensatori it's not. But as a good quality family resort it's a good runner up. Excellent staff, excellent entertainment, fantastic for young kids in every way. I would definitely recommend.

We stayed in a family room (875) over-looking the baby pool. The room was dated and in need of re-decoration, although it was cleaned daily and the linen and towels were changed regularly. The air-conditioning was poor and very noisy (particularly when you’re trying to sleep). The bed was far too hard and very uncomfortable (in fact the sun loungers were more comfy!). There wasn’t a great deal of storage space. The only English speaking TV channel that worked was BBC World News – not really suitable for children.

We used the family pool during our holiday which had plenty of room for the kids to play (and still space to swim). The poolside bar served drinks and snacks from 10 am. My only complaint about the pool was that all of our swimwear and t-shirts were badly discoloured by the chemicals in the pool (white t-shirts turned yellow). We reported our concerns to the reps and the hotel laundered a batch of the clothing but the clothes remained discoloured. Since returning home the clothing has had to be binned.

The restaurant was very good and had a good choice of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also dined in the a la carte restaurant which was excellent and well worth booking.

My son ventured into the Thomson children’s club once. He took part in the chocolate evening activity, believing he would be making and/or eating chocolate. This was certainly not the case, he was covered in chocolate paste (in brand new clothing). He was so traumatised by the whole experience he refused to go back into the club for the rest of our holiday!

We have been on several Thomson family holidays and the children’s entertainment was poor in comparison. The evening entertainment (adult and children) takes place in an amphitheatre which is totally unsuitable. It is very steep and uncomfortable (even if you’re lucky enough to get a seat pad). The adult entertainment wasn’t great so we sat in the bar on the 4th floor most evenings.

The hotel staff are excellent and a credit to the hotel.

Thomson advertise the hotel as 4T’s. I think it’s a 3 star trying hard to be a 4 star.
