“Very happy holiday”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

This hotel is situated right on the front, where with a sea view you can survey the entire bay. You can also watch everyone walking or cycling along the front. The staff are friendly and attentive. The rooms are clean and all the facilities work well.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for a sea view

We have just returned from a week at the Coral Platja as part of a train/coach holiday. The hotel was very clean and we had a lovely room with a balcony. The staff were generally helpful and friendly despite the hotel being very busy during our stay. The buffet-style breakfasts and dinners were plentiful and there was plenty of choice. Like other reviewers, we had a problem with our room safe not working and we did object to having to pay for it.

Roses is a delightful town with plenty to do and the hotel was ideally located - on the beach and a short walk to the centre of town. We can recommend the local bus journey to Cadaques - it is one of the most spectacular and scenic journeys ever!

Excellent value for money, this hotel is situated right on the seafront. The whole hotel is spotless and the rooms are more than adequate, with a fridge, essentially a minibar but plenty of room for personal food items. The breakfast and evening buffets are excellent with a multitude of choice to suit all tastes. Bar prices very cheap compared to where I live, (South of France), eg 500ml of beer, about a pint in imperial measure only €3. Registration very quick and simple, and all the staff helpfull and polite. Swimming poll available, covered in winter and bycycle hire about €4 per hour. Wi- Fi is not available in the rooms but is available in all the public areas. Be sure to visit th Ancient Ciutedella almost opposite the hotel, classic Greek and Roman historic site.

You get what you pay for! I found this hotel to be clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The meals were very adequate and a lot to chose from. Never had a problem with choice. I thought that the bar staff were more than accommodating and served everyone very quickly and politely. Anyone on our trip who did have a problem it was sorted without fuss and very quickly. Needed to get a doctor on Christmas Day and the staff got one immediately and even directed us to the pharmacy to get the gentlemen's drugs! Can not fault the staff. Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable and cleaned everyday over Christmas and even on Christmas Day! The hotel is located directly on the beach and the beach was very clean and water very clear. Roses is a lovely little Spanish seaside resort. Would have no quarms about staying there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room with balcony.

A old hotel with slow lifts and buffet style meals. Meals warm and smothered in grease.A covered swiming pool which is not inviting being in car park. Bar and Terrace not attractive or comfortable.
On a very busy main road.

I fully agree with Linda T, we travelled with a tour group, and had good service, and found the buffet food plentiful, both in choice and quality. I also agree about the safe - we have never had to pay to one before anywhere else. We had a problem in our room, reported it to reception, just before dinner, and were moved to another room, straight after dinner. The position is great being right on the beach. When we were leaving many of us ordered a picnic lunch for the long journey home,(by train) which we felt was good value and consisted of 2 fruit items, yogurt, 2 rolls, cheese, salami, jam, butter, water, and a potato cake, and cold pork schnitzel. The only problem we had with the picnic was that it came in a box, not easy to carry with cases and bags when travelling by train.Negative: The swimming pool , seemed to permanently have leaves floating in it, not sure from where as they were not the same trees as those by the pool and the pool was enclosed, the other problem with the pool was that there was no changing facility and you had to walk thru the car park to enter the hotel. The beach in Roses though is fab, and the sea seemed seaweed free, and was crystal clear, so great to swim in, (and warmer than the pool)and is just outside the hotel, so in my view the pool was unnecessary. Possible other downside is the the car park seemed quite small, but as we were a group, that didn't affect us. Would definately stay here again.

Visited in September on a group tour. Contrary to other reviews, reception, dining and bar staff were very friendly, helpful, professional and with a sense of humour. Bar staff are hard-pushed at times in the evening as it's a large, busy bar, but get the job done and with a smile. Reception also busy when checking in or out large groups, but staff handle it very well. Roses is a very pretty town with soft sand beach & crystal clear sea & the hotel is in a perfect location, adjacent to the beach, with a private lawned sunbed area and within easy walking of the town. The hotel is very clean, a/c worked well, beds comfortable but hard, and quiet (asked for extra pillows and got them immediately). Breakfast & dinner buffet style, and contrary to other reviews, plenty of choice of decent quality (& I've travelled & eaten extensively worldwide): full English or continental + fruit, cheese, cold meats, cereal, yoghurt, etc for breakfast, & variety of hot & cold dishes, salads, cheese & desserts for dinner. Hotel caters for large groups (mainly French & British), so there are set times for meals to ease pressure and reserved areas for groups, which seems to work well and they keep dishes topped up. I'm frankly amazed at how they cope. Only negative was that for the first time ever I had to pay to use a wardrobe safe (and then forgot to claim back my deposit)! Big positive: wanted to visit a remote location on my own and reception staff went out of their way to help (one of the staff gave me a lift there & back). Would definitely visit Roses again, but not sure I'd stay here if I was travelling solo, as I'd probably feel a bit overwhelmed by the groups, but great for a family or group of friends.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a proper balcony & sea view, others only have a 'Juliet' balcony and loo...
