“Great value rustic hotel”

We were looking for something with a bit of character close to Roses and we found it! This is a well restored old masia about 5 minutes out of town. I cannot comment on the restaurant as we did not try it. Breakfast though was fine, although not a major feast, but when you get good coffee, toast, juice and a selection of meats and cheeses at no extra cost on top of a room for two at 60 euros, you really cannot complain. As for the guy who complained about paper thin walls, either he was staying in a different hotel, or he does his writing with a chisel on stone. Our walls would have sufficed for a bomb shelter.

We only stayed here overnight but the rooms were fabulous: beautiful, comfortable and spacious. We had a great stay here.
However, apparently the bar downstairs is popular with the local population so we had some noise during the night. Also, the breakfast isn't much - pretty much just coffee, a cold hard-boiled egg and some bread with a few spreads. The hotel staff are very nice but have a poor level of English.
If you stay here, you should drive down to Cadaques by night and enjoy the nice, touristic waterfront. The road is long and winding but well kept and it should be about 40 minutes drive.

Mas Palou is close enough to Roses but thankfully not in it. First impressions are somewhat mixed as it seems to be more of a family restaurant if you arrive on a Sunday. The room we had was equipped with a Jacuzzi, however on turning it on it looked like it would be possible to catch the last occupants diseases. The rooms were simple but different, lighting was poor and the walls paper thin. What made up for everything was very friendly welcome, and eating there in the evening. The food was good and very Catalan in that it was simple we'll served and presented dishes. Antonio, really made everyone feel 'Fantastico' and his Gin and Tonics were truly exceptional. There is a definite interest in serving good food here as each night there was a special dish.
If you want a truly pleasant experience and you don't mind the odd quirk on the accommodation then it is a fun place to go. Go and visit Cadaqués and forget about Roses.

Room Tip: Upstairs is better I think than downstairs.

Great location, authentic Spanish Mas - staff are excellent really friendly and helpful. Room was OK but a bit dated and could do with being refurbished. We had our 2 dogs with us and this was no problem for the Mas. All in all would recommend a stay.

My wife and I stayed there for 4 nights. This hotel is in a house built in 1582. The thick walls are built from rocks found in the area and the ambiance is of an ancient location. The house is close to a small road but is way out of town and the next door neighbor is a winery a few hundred meters away. Roses and beaches are about 10 minutes drive away.
There is a very nice pool in the yard with tanning sofas and a small bar.
The restaurant and hotel staff are young and very friendly. They don't speak much English but they went out of their way to make us happy. It seems like Spanish speaking guests enjoyed their friendliness.
Rooms are big and romantic. Furniture is antic and add to the overall ambiance. Be aware that there is no separation what so ever between the room and the bathroom.
Wireless internet is available in the restaurant and pool area but not in the rooms.
Breakfast is very nice. Not a wide selection but it is fun. The restaurant is very nice. Food is tasty and again, the staff makes everything happy and easy.
Roses is very touristic but there are some quite beaches in the area that are less crowded. GPS is recommended.
Great place for a quite and romantic vacation and for small families or group of friends.
